@Andris Falks you talk about batteries, yes, the productioni pollutes the environment. Have you thought about, how much fuel and the generation of fuel pollutes the environment? I drove with my Tesla 40.000 km last year, I produced with solar panels all the power myself. For this amount of km a conventional car would have needed about 5.000 liters of fuel. TO produce and to ship this amount of fuel requires about the same amount of fuel. What do you think, what pollutes the environment more - 10.000 liters fuel per year during 10 years =100.000 liters of fuel or some solar panels and some batteries - that last 20+ years and can be to about 90% recycled. Can burnt fuel be recycled?

@Andris Falks Your pollution point has been thoroughly debunked and is just propaganda put out by those with an interest in electric cars failing. The specific study you probably read compared cradle to grave of an EV against gas without considering the pollution of building the gas car. They also assumed the EV would only have a lifespan of 100k miles which is obviously wrong as Tesla's are some of the higher mileage cars on the road. Obliviously on the car side EVs are going to win and pretty much everyone in the industry at this point has come to the same conclusion with all of them building EVs. While electric propulsion does have scaling issues on yachts not matter how much money you have, if you have enough money they can certainly perform very well in the majority of situations. Sure you could do the same for less money in a diesel yacht but part of the luxury you are paying for is not needing generators running at all why on the hook. If you are bouncing around island groups you might not ever need it except for longer passages.

The 3-deck owner's penthouse version is my favorite (layout shown on their website). They are likely to dominate the whole day-trip market segment with these, both for people who agree with the virtues, and those who want to control operating expenses. Free fuel and no diesel engine maintenance cuts out 2 of the biggest expenses. I'm a little surprised they haven't incorporated a wind-turbine system as well. Maybe the new "silent" vertical wind generators still aren't silent enough, but that could add a lot of recharge power to go longer/faster. We know that wind-powered boats can cover a lot of range in a day, as thousands of years of sailing has already shown :)
@BlaBla-pf8mf4 жыл бұрын
That version looks huge. I'm curious how effectively solar panels can move it.

I think the world touring "energy observer" had vertical wind generators but changed those to retractable wing sails. You could also make (never seen, just had an idea:-) foldable helical wind generator quite easily. Those could be useful in windy cloudy anchor situations or when moving other than upwind..
@gregb73534 жыл бұрын
@Daver G I'm don't take issue with any of your calculations but I do with your conclusion. You simply can't compare HP between a diesel and electric motor and get any understanding of how it will perform. You have to pair each motor up with a prop that matches it's torque. Electric drives are 95% efficient where diesel is only 40% at best considering the torque curve is a lot harder to pair with a prop while an electric motor has a flat torque curve.

For a solar yacht grow lights use too much electricity, rounder hull would also increase the power drain, pods on top would reduce the amount of solar coming to the panels. Sea pool could be both expensive an maintenance hog at the sametime. Stabilizer would both use too much power on a solar yacht and I feel its pretty safe to say that in the medium future most solar yachts will be catamarans instead, that the stability isnt that much of an issue. This size of the boat would also need atleast 2 people to have enough free time from basic stuff like washing solar panels to make any sense. Probably 3-4.

pretty sure it has diesel gensets
@petersmith81343 жыл бұрын
@@CheekyMonkey888 Nothing in all the literature I have specifies the type but for safety reasons I would choose diesel. However it may only run for an hour or two a day if at all to suit my needs so I can live with that. The emissions would be next to nothing compared to a couple of diesel engines on a conventional boat.

Can you make a comparison video between the Sunreef Eco range and Silent Yachts? I'd be quuite intrested to see what you think about those two.

That would be quite the video!! I 2nd that request!

@@user-dy2qq5wh4b A Silent is specially designed as a solar yacht, every comparison would be unfair, as other manufacturers only equip conventional motoryachts with some panels and electric motors, which never can have the performance as a SIlent Yacht. Several tried, most of them gave up already, some are still existing, but the performance is unsatisfactory. . There is a reason, why Silent as built the first and so far only fully luxury production yacht that crossed an Ocean on solar. The performance is unprecedented, up to 20 knots on solar (short term) and all night cruising without generator .... visit us for a seatrial!

Sunreef ECO is still on progress note, I didn't see any more advertisement over it since they show the only model built. The technology is still not mature yet to make as a commercial worthless .. The price tag also is much higher than normal

Nice. I'd really like to see a follow-up on that Trimaran made of CF with battery-diesel propulsion. That's a game-changer for me.

I wish It would have more Solar panels and batteries for a continuous transatlantic passage. Or at least some solar panels in the back that could be able to pivot and use them as a sale in windy conditions, when the wind blows from rear. Or some other way to also use the wind somehow for long passages.

How will this be powered? The panels can be used for a fridge and light bulbs
@danmcsalley49743 жыл бұрын
The regenerative power from the sail going through two engines combined with the solar would power the 105Kw batteries which in turn give you 10 to 12 knots on electric

Can this boat navigate in open water to other countries or it is only for coast travel?
@guilhermesantiago73654 жыл бұрын
I don't know anything about yatchs and boats but somehow I ended up here and I completely fell in love. If I were to buy one of these, would I need a proper crew as in bigger yatchs, or could I just take it by myself to cruise with my family? If this one is too big, which size should it be to allow me to not depend on a crew? Thanks!

How much would the 60' cost? What is the back up plan if the electric motor fails?
@user-dy2qq5wh4b4 жыл бұрын
I love the try deck open 80 version. Amazing yacht to explore with! Are you a broker for purchasing these? I see Sunreef now has an Eco line, with these new solar sheets that are placed on the sides and top of the vessel. however they haven't figured out the weight issue and still use diesel generators for the engines. Any estimated time when these 80 ft will be ready to view?

This looks to be a fabulous beast. What is a 'ball park' cost for one of these? £5M - £10M or £50M? Just looking for a rough estimate.
