Mount Everest. The highest point on Earth. For centuries, mankind bore witness to the awe-inspiring natural monoliths of the Himalayan mountain range. Being the source of countless religious beliefs and cultural traditions, the mountain became a staple in pop culture, and in 2005, Disney created Expedition Everest, a ride at the Animal Kingdom theme park in Florida. Of course since this is Disney, they couldn’t just settle for a standard rollercoaster with a mountain theme. So instead, they chose to incorporate a local legend from areas surrounding the actual Mount Everest into the story of the ride: the yeti. This famous cryptid is gigantic, said to live high up in the Himalayas, and is supposedly very hostile to trespassers. Here’s the question though: does the yeti exist? If it does, where is it hiding? If it doesn’t, what could be the inspiration behind it? Buckle up, because this is about to get weird…

On The Lion King 1 1/2 DVD There is a CGI recreation of part of the ride with the yeti it's really cool it was one of my favorite extras and I didn't even know it was based off of the real Disney yeti tell years later
