🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 We're so close to 7000 subs🔥🙏 I spent a lot of time doing my research for this video because you guys deserve the spotlight! Most channels only focus on the most famous clubs but I try to shine light on teams and players that don't get as much attention, especially from Portugal and Brazil. I hope I can continue to count with your support in 2025! That's a great video man, congratulations. Let me give you a context. The club's downfall that started in the 70's is strictly related to the military dictatorship that happened in Brasil. Charles Borer was a puppet of the regime and was put on Botafogo's presidency to keep an eye and destroy the club after some students that were protesting against the dictatorial regime seek for refugee in General Severiano. That episode didn't end well and started all the bad things that happened until Mauricio's goal to win a trophy after 20 something years of coordinated destruction of the club.

@@ThroneFC What he said is partially true. There was no dictatorial government in Brazil under 60/70 years, but in true a military government requested by the people over here in spite of iminent comunist government that was about to take over under João Goulart presidency support. That part of Brazilian history isn't usually told by Lula supporters (communism fans) here down.

There is a very important context in the history of Botafogo that needs to be considered... And it's about Charles Borer, the long title drought and the sale of the club's assets. Let's go: In 1968 Brazil was going through a complicated political period, known as the Military Dictatorship. It is one of the bloodiest periods in our history... In that year in question, there were student movements calling for the end of this dictatorship. One of these demonstrations took place near General Severiano. During this event, police violence occurred and many of the students entered the old General Severiano stadium. They were helped by the club's management and staff to enter the stadium and take cover. In the end, the police invaded the place and beat everyone present, including children. Faced with this, the dictatorship was furious and a police officer linked to the dictatorship's national intelligence system was placed in the club. His management did this, dismantled the club and its main assets. General Severiano, for example, was sold to Vale (a dictatorship company) for a price well below the market. He was mainly responsible for sinking Botafogo into an endless abyss that lasted for many, many years. Without money and also without any titles.
@RafaelJesus2712
@RafaelJesus2712 2 күн бұрын
The said Military Dictatorship was one of the safest periods of Brazil. You call it a dictatorship, but all their commands still needed to be approved by the congress, what they did was immensely supported by some politicians and civil people, what changed a bit after some trouble with their allies and big media companies, like Globo. Now, with a fake democracy, we have way less freedom than in the Military Regime, way more crimes all over the country and everything is in ruins. The Military Regime was far from perfect, but it was also far from this awful period of our history you trying to sound like. Botafogo wasn't a victim in this situation, they were trying to help troublemakers and supporters of communism, useful idiots. Botafogo was never well managed before John Textor, don't blame the Military Regime for it.

I had NO IDEIA of this political context. Basically, the very political element that made Real Madrid explode to this day made botafogo sink. I’m actually very surprised how the club didn’t disappeared with this level of political sabotage, a dictatorship one at that. This is actually sad to think the price the club pay for being humane and protect the kids. It was a heroic act that costed them all their wealth and almost costed the very club’s existence. It is even sadder to know barely anyone know about this heroic act and the sacrifice it required.

@@Blakenew127 I'm a Botafogo fan (needless to say, a Brazilian too). Since my childhood I've love this club and the history of it. So yeah, basically the Botafogo suffered a lot throughout the years. But, as we say, "Botafogo is a fortress and its fans will never surrender".

Botafogo sold its stadium and moved away to Marechal Hermes because the president at the time was a crony for the military dictatorship that ruled Brazil. The previous club administration opposed the military coup and military regime. So they managed to "punish" Botafogo this way. Pushing it away from any chances of winning titles. Coincidently the period when the military regime was in power, Botafogo didn't win a single title, not even state championships, and some other more "regime friendly" clubs won multiple national and international level competitions, getting sponsored by state run companies, etc. That in turn made their fan base grow and with time they grew to the biggest fan base in Brazil, getting more money from the regime friendly network (Globo) than any other team in the country.

It is very interesting to know that the dictatorship phenomenon affected Brazil soccer as well. In Spain, Real Madrid wasnt winning any national relevant title for 2 decades until dictatorship started there and Francisco Franco decided to make RM a sport powerhouse to showcase it to the world as a symbol of success of the regimen. He put his personal friend as the clubs president, flooded it with money and other practical privileges in order to make it happen. Not long after RM started to win everything national, rose to international notoriety and became most successful club in history. Ppl only see the surface but if you go digging, it is always fascinating to discover what other factors influenced an out of ordinary success or failure story. If someone try to reproduce RM sucess formula but ignore this political element, they would be in for a massive failure haha

@@RafaelJesus2712 Regime was all about using football as a tool of mass distraction. They directly influenced the 1970s team management - João Saldanha should have coached the team in the World Cup, but the dictators hated his socialist ideals. Botafogo did manage to win the national title in 68, but it was prohibited to play the Libertadores of 1969. Globo and the regime were convoluted at the time, and the project was to make Flamengo, an already popular, local club, to become a national sensation. The project worked - Flamengo has a bizarre amount of supporters, won many cups, had the best press, while Botafogo fell into oblivion. Bad management was a consequence, not the cause. No one in their right mind wanted to get involved with the club again, so it was at the mercy of crooks.

@RafaelJesus2712
