Portugal's Most Passionate Club You’ve Never Heard Of - Vitória SC

Vitória might grow but it will never beat the top 3. Not even Braga. Football is essencially a game of economics and this is also seen amidst it's rivalry with Braga. When Braga was nothing but a religious hub with administrative power will limited, Guimarães Ave Valley was one of the most industrialized region in Portugal. This led to a large difference in investment. Guimarães investors were richer. The club took the lead. Now in modern times Braga assumed it's District Capital role and the growth of the city and economics has been explosive while Guimarães industries suffered a massive crisis in the early 00s which they never recovered from. Furthermore, there are geographical issues to consider. Braga is the first big club in Portugal. North from Braga there is nothing relevant. The closest known club is Vigo in Spain. This means that Braga practically has first pick of every player North from it as well as the large amount of players the immediate city already produce. Guimarães on the other hand is stuck between Braga 20km North and Porto 40km South. And even then there is Moreirense in the 1st division 10km (same municipality) and Famalicão, which has been producing lot's of talent 20km away in the same Ave Valley. Braga has Gil Vicente 20km away but they're not competition like Guimarães has to endure. Those clubs live from youth academies and Guimarães is a lot more limited when it comes to resources. It's as simple as that. Guimarães fan base is nevertheless miles ahead Braga and an example of what every inner city should be. The pride those kids have in wearing their jersey to school is unseen in Portugal as the 3 big clubs are a common vulgarity. Showing pride for their city is a dying breed of fans in a world of globalization. That facet of Guimarães should be the target of a serious case study. What process led to such a massive support of the local club when no other city is able to even compete except Braga due to their great success of late? The town's history and way they always seen themselves as the craddle of the nation makes them extremely proud of anything realted with the city.

Não sei onde foste buscar a ideia de Guimarães ter sido uma zona mais industrializada que Braga e depois ter entrado em crise e isso ter influência no sucesso dos clubes. Isso não é de todo verdade. Braga e Guimarães distam os mesmos quilómetros que entre Braga e Barcelos, ou entre Guimarães e Famalicão. O baixo Minho tem uma concentração enorme de talento, que é fácil encontrá-lo em qualquer um destes lugares. Braga é capital do distrito desde o século XIX, se fosse por aí sempre teria tido esse sucesso. A densidade populacional é a mesma por ser tão perto. Essa análise geográfica não dá para concordar de todo. Desse ponto de vista, enquanto não há nada a norte de Braga que seja relevante, o mesmo se pode dizer a leste de Guimarães, e num raio ainda muito maior. O Porto é tão perto de Braga como de Guimarães. E o Vitória não tem recursos limitados em termos de talento jovem, longe disso, consegue sempre ombrear nos escalões jovens com os outros clubes. A diferença entre Braga e Vitória, no que ao sucesso desportivo diz respeito, explica-se em 20 anos, onde o Braga, mesmo com diversas limitações financeiras, conseguiu uma estabilidade que permite estar sempre presente em competições europeias. E o Vitória não. Depois claro, cresceu em termos financeiros. Pode ser um espelho da economia local, mas não diria que seja uma consequência ou uma causa da mesma

​Isso é a pura das verdades. Mais óbvio e sobejamente conhecido é impossível. Negar isso é ter ZERO conhecimento nem perspectiva da região onde vives. Já em 1884 Gmr tinha exposições industriais enquanto Brg só rezava.

@gabkoost as exposições industriais não indicavam apenas que aquele concelho era industrializado, mas também a região em si. Não há qualquer fundamento para afirmares que "em Braga só se rezava". Como se a economia de Braga não dependesse igualmente de uma indústria a dar os primeiros passos (tal como em Guimarães). De resto, não me viste a negar o facto de ser a zona mais industrializada do país, não fosse eu formado em História 😉. Numa época anterior, de proto-industrialização - assim lhe pudemos chamar - Braga estava ligeiramente à frente de Guimarães, principalmente na indústria dos chapéus, algo que se vai invertendo com o passar do tempo. É aliás esse facto que nos leva a perceber que Braga ultrapassou Guimarães demograficamente entre os séculos XVI e XVIII. Em épocas de crescimento, embora envergonhado, das regiões urbanas, Braga conseguiu-o à frente de Guimarães. Guimarães era de facto mais forte na indústria do têxtil, como ainda hoje é. De resto, em termos industriais, o concelho de Guimarães é hoje superior ao de Braga, e não estou a ver onde isso se reflete no futebol. É misturar alhos com bugalhos. Tentaste fazer uma análise profunda, é bem jogado da tua parte, reconheço que é uma perspetiva interessante, mas não consigo concordar, peço desculpa

I’m also a Santa Clara supporter. Reading this after the taça loss to Sporting is painful🥲. We are in a great position and the current club management is doing well and wanting to be competitive. Hopefully this manager sticks around and we continue to grow. I just wish we had more of a supporter turnout at matches. The second league final matches were pretty packed. I don’t know why we can’t keep that trend going

Great video. I’ve always had a soft sport for Vítoria. I wish them well and that they keep growing. It’s amazing to see such passionate supporters outside of the big 3. It’s a shame that most of us Portuguese are incapable of supporting our local teams.

There is a saying in the last twenty years in Portuguese league for the 3 Big Clubs "In Braga you play in the field" in Guimarães you pray. Historically most point losses for the 3big clubs are in away games in the Islands, in Braga stadium and in Vitoria stadium.

Hopefully they can stay big unlike academica, Belenenses, CUF, Beira-Mar, Vitoria FC, and Athletico CP, so many of these clubs once have huge fanbases and Academica and Vitoria both have good attendance for the Premiera Liga despite being in the 3rd and 6th tier, so many Portuguese clubs that were once just outside the big 3 that a lot of people don’t know, hopefully Vitoria stay, because there is a lot of downfall

Vídeo incrível. Devo apenas dizer que o Álvaro Pacheco não foi demitido. Ele é que quis sair. E a 5* equipa de Portugal perder com o Hajduk não é nenhum choque. Tinham, indiscutivelmente, uma equipa melhor que a nossa. E o vitoria não consegue propagar a marca, porque, em geral, não só o povo português não tem interesse em futebol, como os media não querem ajudar na na promoção de um clube que não o Sporting, Porto ou Benfica, pelo que estaria sozinho nessa luta. Nem os portugueses de outros distritos querem vir ver um jogo, quanto mais gente de outros países...

@ vê a média de espectadores em cada estádio. O povo gosta de ganhar, não gosta de futebol. Se gostassem de futebol estavam constantemente a apoiar o clube local e não um a 300 kms. Estariam a ver no futebol no estádio, que é onde os jogos devem ser vistos.

De um lado tinhas o Livaja, do outro tinhas o Antonin Cortes, o Matheus Indio, o Ruben Lameiras, o Ryoya Ogawa e o Nelson da Luz. Nenhum dos jogadores do vitoria mencionados tinha lugar precisamente no Estrela ou no Casa Pia. O Moreno... não tem lugar no futebol, de todo

O Vitoria é o clube que tem mais potencial para ser o quarto clube de Portugal e o mais grande dos "pequenos", tem um potencial enorme, tem un estadio de jeito, tem uma massa adepta importante e muita paixao e esta quase sempre a lutar pelos lugares europeus, o que lhes falta antes de tudo é um titulo de campeao e os milhoes que traz ao clube para o seu crescimento e a experiencia que se ganha a jogar na Europa todos os anos. Falta lhes regularidade, basta ver como o Braga cresceu ao ir à liga dos campeaoes e a Liga Europa todos os anos. O dinheiro que traz as campanhas europeias so valorisa o clube fora do pais e o valor dos jogadores, basta ver essa epoca em que o Vitoria fez uma boa fase de grupo na Liga Conferencia, chegou a abertura de mercado e venderam 4 titulares mais o treinador, e isso é um problema porque o Vitoria fica mais fraco a meio da epoca e agora esta a perder lugares no campeonato e os oitovas da Liga Conferencia vao ser mais dificeis porque perderam jogadores importante a meio da epoca.

No concelho somos 150 mil , 50 na cidade e 75 nas freguesias do concelho! O VITÓRIA tem até a data 37 mil sócios , mais os simpatizantes que sejam outros tantos , talvez 50%ou 25% vá ! Onde é que encaixa o resto ? Ainda tens que contar com que não quer saber de futebol e os que são do Porto,Sporting e Moreirense! Ok há também os Vitorinos apelidados assim por sua infidelidade, refiro-me a fatia que tem dois clubes ! Não deves saber fazer contas ou andas a fumar erva com bolor ,pareces mais ser de beber vinho aziomado!
