J- and L-cuts can make a huge difference. I have taken to using them even on a talking head video. It picks up the pace enormously but eases the transition as compared to jump cuts, which can seem really abrupt.

@femkebeernaert3 жыл бұрын
Jennifer, I checked your channel out. The thing I noticed that might be limiting your subs is that you have completely US focused titles. Your video's might be of interest to me but that focus on shop names that I don't have where I live... it's difficult to get non-US citizens past that. I hope this might be helpful for you. Good luck with growing on YT!

The *ONE* thing that most people underestimate when making videos on KZbin is engagement. When you talk in front of a camera, you want to be genuine, friendly, and likeable. If you aren't these things, practise talking in front of a mirror to improve your charisma because it's crucial when wanting to build an audience.

It’s funny how a lot of people think content creation is so easy and don’t realize all the editing that goes into it. It’s like “oh but it’s just a 5min video” but yeah there’s probably 24+ hours of editing on that video lol I’ve been working on trimming the fluff from all my videos, making them get to the point faster and removing the umms and ehhs so that way it’s much more seamless. I also love adding sound effects whenever possible. It’s all been a learning experience but I feel like I’ve definitely gotten much better along the way. It would be great to see some analysis of MKBHD!

You know this is a great analysis. I've been upping my editing and everyone around me keeps saying more videos, less editing... but what I find is my sub count shoots way up on the better edited videos. Talking 100 subs instead of 10. Many channels I follow take this approach too. They do 1 video a week and it's a fun video. I didnt know that about the 60 fps for good slo mo.. ill also add that buying a good transitions pack for Adobe is a must do. *new video idea for you* there are several transition packs online, mine came with sound effects too.

Question to Think Media: Are these KZbinrs doing their OWN editing or do they have a staffer, buddy, crew, etc. doing the editing for them and working with what the KZbinr envisions for the video?

But they used too. I think that once the KZbinrs get so busy, it makes sense to hire an editor. It's like you live in a 1 bed apartment and you clean it yourself, then you end up earning more money and buy a 5 bedroom house, it would make sense to hire a housekeeper, no?

3:01 - instead of detaching audio, a better method would be to double click on the bottom part of the clip (where you see the audio) it basically detaches from the clip so you can smoothly make that same J and L cut but you don’t actually have to detach the clip and take the chance of it getting unsynced.

Personally I'd rather not edit my videos to the point where it looks like I'm on a TV show, I'd rather do minimal editing and have a more personal experience on KZbin. Editing can help, but I think it's over rated. Thumbnail, title and content are king, the rest is just icing on the cake. My best video with nearly a million views is shot on a $30 camera that I bought on Ebay, has no music, it's shaky and grainy but it's a video on how to make $2,000 a month raising ducks. Everyone wants to make easy money, it's a topic that is wide reaching to a larger audience, has a great thumbnail and title. You can have the best editing but if it's targeted towards a smaller audience then it will have a minimal effect. I actually just started this motorcycle channel because I believe it will reach a bigger audience than my other 6 channels, even though I have nearly 1200 videos on KZbin. Look at the top videos from popular KZbinrs, most people would watch a video on that topic, vs. not a lot of people will watch a video about your pet snake where a lot of people are terrified of snakes LOL. Plus excessive editing can really slow you down, you'll spend way too much time in the edit vs. putting out more content. I can't hardly watch videos from a lot of those big guys, mainly because it takes them 10 minutes to get to the point, it's all excessive editing. Just give me what was promised in the thumbnail so I can move on to the next video, I didn't click on the video to be impressed by your fancy editing LOL

Agree. There will never be a slow motion coffee montage in any of my videos. People are watching for specific information, not cinematography.

I see and can agree to a point here... however, the edits... at least for us is a form of our creative expression and that shouldn’t be so quick to be discounted. Not picking a fight... just sayin 😎

@@Ournotsoperfectlife Being creative with edits is fun, but the analytics show me that spikes and continuous segments are associated with me showing and explaining information on charts, tables, excel sheets, etc. But that's specific to my channel.

@Lisa Colton - that’s the beauty of the platform! Your analytics show what your viewers want and engage in... and that is universal for every channel 🤙🏼 Awesome it’s working for you!

@Joe R I definitely do some storytelling and I do use B-Roll, sound effects and various editing techniques for increasing watch time, but it's not my focus and I'm not going to spend a huge amount of time and energy on things like multiple camera angles and slow motion because people aren't tuning into my channel for that. These techniques are more important for vlog or lifestyle/entertainment niche type content, but I think that people put too much pressure on themselves and get burned out trying to keep up with these folks who have other people professionally editing their videos. Even Graham Stephan has someone working for him full-time taking care of that. Peter McKinnon too.
