People bad mouth HD and the Reagan tariff. But the Japanese had a pack with their big 4, that was to sell their bikes to USA for nearly at production cost in an attempt to put HD out of the competition. This was the reason for the tariff, an attempt to 'even the playing field.

Yup Harley's motto- "when the going gets tough, go woke". And... yes, Ronald Reagan was a GREAT President.

I love Harley Davidson motorcycles! But I can’t stand the ceo and the direction the MoCo is taking. When he says he wants to make Harley “the most desirable motorcycle in the world.” He means “the most EXPENSIVE motorcycle in the world.” Nothing but pure greed. Harley Davidson, the American motorcycle company ran by a German shoe salesman.

@robbyclark6915
@robbyclark6915 2 жыл бұрын
@@stevek8829 I started on an iron 883 and now ride a ‘21 Low Rider S with the 114. I paid $19k for it which is outrageous, but if you want the bike you pay the price. These reasonably priced used Harleys are just that, used, from independent sellers, not HD. They are still expensive compared to other brands but Harley is on a path right now to drastically reduce or maybe eliminate altogether, anything that’s not making the profit margins they are seeking. Watch the bikes they cut from the ‘23 lineup. The most “affordable” bikes are being eliminated. The standard, the Evo sportsters, and some others will be gone. I hope they replace them with something the average guy can afford but I don’t look for that to happen. The ceo said he wants Harley to be the “most desirable motorcycles in the world.” And so far it seems his definition of “desirable” means “expensive”. I love the bikes, I don’t like the business model one bit.

Your time stamps are wrong many times during this obviously Harley generated video. Especially the amf purchase in 1969. I had a 1969 and a 1974. The 69 had opaque paint, the 74 had clear coated metallic. The 69 had a mechanical drum brake on the front and a hydraulic drum brake on the back, same brakes since early 50s. Amf developed the hydraulic disk brakes front and back in 74. 73 had disk front drum rear. Amf did the research and development of the best engine Harley ever produced the Evo. Amf introduced the superglue in 1971. In short AMF saved a badly run company set them up for the success they enjoyed through the 90s and then they went back to their old ways and have been producing overpriced junk since 1999 the first year of the twin cam. They sold their first bike in 1904 not 1903 as their rewritten history would suggest. Go read a history book of the company before willie g entered the scene or research the golden anniversary dealer promotion of 1954. Never have understood their need to make themselves look like the saviour when they have repeatedly been the opposite.

I have owned an EVO and a Twin Cam and rode both to over 100,000 miles each and I would argue that the Twin Cam was a much better engine than the EVO. Just based on my personal experience.

I remember talking to a dealer in 1978 and they told me how they had to go over every bike they got because they didn't trust the bikes shipped from the factory. AMF ramped up production and cut workforce to make profits to finance the Evo development. Every Harley I have had since 1994 has been better than the one I had before. As far as price, I sold Spotsters in 1981 for about $3500. The inflation calculator tells me that's $12,670 today. Harley's have never been cheep, but that's about what they are today. Those '81 ironheads were great but not as refined as today .

Many names are mispronounced. Ole should be pronounced “Olee”, it’s Scandinavian. Poncho Villa isn’t pronounced like a villa to live in. The Mexicans pronounce it like “Via”. One or two mispronounced names is one thing. Many mispronounced names is unfortunate. That’s a result of slam bamming a production together without a seasoned narrator.
