I know this is April fools but I was so confused by this guy's character. At first I thought he would be like....a foil to Ichiban and Kiryu in showing the difference between positive masculinity and his more like "gym bro" additude with how he goes on about how "men aren't allowed to be men anymore in America" and kiryu just says "right.....sure" Then the stuff with his son happens and I think "oh he'll kinda grow a bit by being around Ichiban" Then the Fucker just gets shot and dies And its like they forget about his kid being kidnapped so they had to just do a half cutscene where you find his kid in a shed and just say "You take care of him until we get back!!!" I adore 8, and most Yakuza games fumble the story 2/3rds of the way in imho, but the story in this game was just really messy.

I'm convinced an early draft of 8 had Ichi's final party be Tomi, Chitose, and Wong Tou. Adachi and Nanba would go back to Japan with Kiryu and Seonhee would join them in Japan. We know Joongi and Zhao weren't planned inclusions and Saeko feels like just as much an afterthought as them. It's probably just cope + crack theory but keeping him alive just to kill him so unceremoniously reeks. All he does after the boss fight is yap, say he's gonna help, and die

Hope that was the case. As much as I love Joongi and Zhao they were completely redundant. Also, this game overindulges in nostalgia everywhere, so it makes sense itd affect the party too. Which is a pity, because I think a wider rotating cast of characters wouldve been a net plus for the series, instead of indulging on older characters whose arcs are already complete.

Facts. Joongi felt like he was included just because they could reuse a lot of his assets, animations, etc and then have an even number of characters on the roster. I was sort of expecting Wong to be a playable character because finding his kid and then an eventual redemption arc seemed like it would be a major part of the story but then they just shot him lol.

I genuinely desperately wish Wong Tou survived. He easily could have been a party member or at least an ally. We also deserved to get that whole plot point with his son resolved. Like you can't just show us all his men and even his sitter betraying him and shipping a little kid off to a known sociopathic cultist and not give us closure.

I view Wong Tou as a sort of cautionary tale, he basically asks "what if the Yakuza didn't disband in 7?" And the answer is that a man who has all the skills you need to succeed in the underworld, and a strong ideology fairly well-suited to organised crime gets totally crushed and subsumed by the greater power. He tries to make his own decisions and is immediately betrayed by his own men. That said the way he died was pretty bullshit.

I think the issue with big Yakuza games is that their narrative falls apart the more characters they have. They don't spend enough time developing them and showing them through the story. I was sure this man would've become kinda important but nope. Pretty sad honestly. Also happy april's first everyone!

I'm gonna be serious and say that I feel like I was mad with how they handled him. I thought until they stabbed his leg, he was on his way to become a freaking party member, but no. That would've been cool and a much better way to treat him than what they did, having a subplot of him joining Ichi and co to save his son. Honestly that should've happened, and to make it more even, have someone join Kiryu's party in the same vain in Japan, like Majima.

Honestly didn't even think it was an april fools joke until 4:19 because a poisonous fountainpen is not always a desired way to avenge ones mother. Guy looks like Azteccross and was actually a cool fight with a great theme, shame he got the treatment he did in the story I watched my friend play through Infinite Wealth and it seems like a really good game that I’m gonna get to eventually after playing more of the previous ones, but that story had some high points but overall was pretty messy, others here seem to agree
