One inaccuracy in the video is the assertion that Michal was never married to David until after Sauls death. The Bible clearly states that David and Michal were cohabiting together when Sauls soldiers came to kill him and Michal put a dummy in the bed. This would have been socially and religiously unacceptable for the two to be cohabiting outside of marriage in ancient Israel. David and Michal were married. The injustice is that Saul gave Michal to another man when David was running for his life. Too often our own misinterpretations and personal biases creep in and render what would normally be a very good message of no profit to anyone. Its the same with the story of Jacob and his wives. Rachel is almost universally portrayed as the beautiful bimbo and Leah as a homely woman of exceptional character though the Bible doesn't give many clues to the individual character of either woman.
@avishevin1976 Жыл бұрын
David slept with Bat-sheva while she was married to another man. One of David's sons raped his half-sister. David and family weren't exactly up on what you might call sexual propriety.
@jasonwilliams8321 Жыл бұрын
@@user-qq9ws1zr6y You are making so many assumptions that are not supported by scripture. You said that "Jacob only loved Leah when she gave him something Rachael wasn't able to give him...." the Bible actually gives no indication that he ever loved her and quite the contrary, as you pointed out he always favored Rachel and her offspring even unto his death apparently. The Bible does expressly describe Rachel as being "beautiful in every way" while it only says that Leah having "weak eyes" (perhaps a reference to being cross-eyed?) And in summation Laban was a man of great means. And potential son-in-law would have stood to benefit greatly from a marriage family bond with his and the fact that we see Laban having to resort to treachery to get rid of Leah seems to indicate that she was generally considered undesirable by most if not all available men in that local. And as far as your assumption that Leah being not pretty she must have had character right? WRONG! I've known more than my fair share of homely gals who had stank personalities as well as very pretty girls who were quite nice on the inside also. The whole ugly girl/sweet character thing is an urban myth that has been perpetuated by the church and society for far too long.

@@araeshkigal KZbin is a bad place to come for theological perspectives. I get into so many conversations with people arguing a point and in the end it seems their opinions are usually supported by some extra biblical source ("Oral Torah" or Ellen G. White, etc...). I'm not sure what led the OP to assume that David and Michal were not married until after Saul's death but it's not in the Bible I read. It's stuff like this that renders Christianity mediocre and probably one of the prime reasons that it has lost nearly all power within the Church in these days.

@Jabbers1 If I remember correctly, Saul's daughter, Michal is also physically beautiful. But Saul's daughter Michal choices as recorded in the Bible will forever associate her to spiteful, bad examples of women. In direct contrast to Michal's choices, the Bible recorded the virtuousness & righteousness in Ruth & also in Queen Esther, both women who are truly beautiful, in deeds & in spirit.

@@JoeZyzyx I just found out via Bible study that Uriah wasn’t just any soldier… he had been one of David’s mighty 30 men… sort of David’s elite fighting group- his Day Ones. These men took an oath to serve and protect David and his cause with their lives. It made me realize why he chose not to obey David’s order to stay away from the battlefield- he was David’s boy. Sometimes we make the mistake of thinking that a few highlights from someone’s life sums up who they are- that’s a social media mindset. Uriah got an honorary mention in the Bible and we assume we know his story… bottom line- Uriah really took one for the Team, David was severely flawed- yet God still saw through all that and honed in his heart, and still said David was a man after his own heart. Same with Jonathan- He also took one for the Team…

What was not mentioned in this story was the failed attempts of bringing the arc of the covenant back to Israel. The failed attempts - which resulted in men being struck dead by mishandling the arc - meant that God's favor was not with Israel. This part of the story is critical in the sense of having the full impact of joy when the arc finally returned to the temple successfully. Another thing to keep in mind is, the Philistines did not use any special handling when they stole the arc in the first place!
@KokoNuel Жыл бұрын
Only the levites tribe of Israel were allowed to touch the arc of covenant because they were called to serve in priesthood to God even moses was from this tribe. The people that touched it were not from the levite tribe and that is why the had to leave the arc at the house of Obed edom.

Saul did in fact give his daughter to David before he died! 1Sa 18:17 And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD'S battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him. 1Sa 18:18 And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what is my life, or my father's family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king? 1Sa 18:19 But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul's daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife. 1Sa 18:20 And Michal Saul's daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him. 1Sa 18:21 And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain. 1Sa 18:22 And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king's son in law. 1Sa 18:23 And Saul's servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king's son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed? 1Sa 18:24 And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David. 1Sa 18:25 And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines. 1Sa 18:26 And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son in law: and the days were not expired. 1Sa 18:27 Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife. 1Sa 18:28 And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal Saul's daughter loved him. 1Sa 18:29 And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David's enemy continually. 1Sa 18:30 Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.

Michal was not childless. She was married to David but when he had to run away from Saul, Saul gave her to another man. This man loved her very much and they had many sons. When David ascended to the throne, he had his followers take her back by force. Then the Gibeonites demanded atonement by bloood for Saul’s crimes and David allowed them to kill Michal’s sons. All of them were killed. So she died childless. 1. In ancient (and more recent) times, a conqueror would marry the daughter of the conquered king to solidify his political claims to the throne and silence anyone who clung to the idea that the old King’s bloodline should rule. It also served to silence a lot of those who were loyal to the previous regime. 2. David must have felt that she was defiled as his wife, having lived as the wife of another man. Her arrogance and lack of respect for his relationship with God was a final stroke against any kind of reconciliaton between them, 3. After he had her sons killed, she would have hated him with every fibre of her being

Well said and will put. We really have to read the Bible in all detail, so not to have false ideas about the different characters in scripture. We also need to understand the role of women in ancient times and how different it was from the way it is today. 16:37
@Khangel Жыл бұрын
@@marcelinastanton3346 Indeed, I could have added to this, for example this was a brand new dynasty in the middle of several cultures where the crown was inherited matrilineally. David had to secure a patrilineal dynasty and therefore, eliminating Michal’s line from any chance at succession, and refusing her further opportunities to reproduce eliminated that possibility.

This video ignores half of the story. The Bible tells us Michal loved David. David returned her love by marrying multiple women and accumulating a harem of concubines. Michal was then given to a man who loved her. When she was returned to David, the man who loved her followed after her weeping. Like most women, Michal needed to be loved by her husband, and David failed mightily in that regard. He ignored an early commandment of God, to cleave to his wife. He caused her to hate him. Her bitterness was not born the day David danced, it just finally came to the surface. The story of David's dance is not just one of victory, but in retrospect, was also one that revealed his failures. We should not look at this story as just a celebration of our Lord and David's thankfulness to him, but also as a stark reminder that even great David was hopelessly flawed, and this story puts on full display one of David's greatest failures. His sin with Bathsheba was not the beginning of his trouble with women: it was the culmination of many long years of womanizing finally catching up to him.

This is an extremely misleading video. Especially since it advertises the "truth" about Michal. It completely omits that after David left, Saul gave Michal to another man whom she apparently loved and who loved her. After David's men killed her father and brother, David sent soldiers to steal her back against her will while her husband wept bitterly as she was stripped from him. So yes, she has a very justified resentment. Furthermore, she was NOT criticizing David for dancing. She criticized him for exposing himself during the dance. (half naked, exposed, undressed, shamelessly uncovered... depending on translation) This IS worthy of criticism.

The way David "danced" preceding the ark was by far a lot different than what dancing is like today, even in a religious fashion. Because he debased himself before the people, as a commoner, she scorned him. That may have been why she died childless and possibly him not being as intimate with her as he may have been before that incident.

David had no intention of giving her a child when he brought her back. That was the whole idea. Saul would have no grandchildren by her - certainly no chance of a son that could potentially take the throne.

By this time David had taken at least two additional wife's while living on the run from Saul, which no doubt caused a measure of contention. Saul's inner most problem, fear. He was sent to Gigal to wait for Samuel (the profit) to offer a sacrifice before fighting the Philistines. He had an army of ONLY 600 men (but double that of Gideon's army). When Samuel did show up, Saul had just offered the sacrifice (which a king was not allow to do), he stated to Samuel, I committed this sin because I was AFRAID! The fascinating thing is, Joshua had also been sent to Gilgal many years prior. He was told to circumsize all of his men (soldiers) and not move until they were ALL completely healed. He was commanded to make his army incapacitated and wait within sight of the strongest fortress in the world, Joshua conquered his fear and so then received his instructions from Heaven to win. Fear is a giant which we all must conquer.

When Saul died & David became king he then took Michal from her husband though he had married various other wives himself. He took her from a man that loved her for his own vanity. David was gone for several years, never once making the effort to bring Michal to his side, he even married a widow after Michal, while he was running from Saul, just because she helped him while falling in love with him. Michal in the meantime, was given to another man as his bride. When Saul died and David was crowned and positioned himself as the King of Israel he decided to summon Michal back into his life, maybe even for the wrong reasons (politics) disregarding Michal’s feelings and new marriage. When his men came for Michal, her new husband pleaded with them not to take her. The Bible says he followed Michal and David’s men to the outskirts of the city crying and giving out loud voices. Michal was the true victim in this case. Forgotten by the man she loved, taken from the only man who truly loved her and then being denied David’s love for letting him know how she truly felt, and as result she was denied the joys of motherhood. As a Christian woman and mother I have difficulty understanding this young woman’s tragic life and how she was used and abandoned by the men who were suppose to protect her, David and Saul both. Sadly, she became bitter and barren for the rest of her days.

King David married a woman who was a widow because David sent her husband, a loyal commander under him, into battle in such a way that he was sure to die, just so that he could marry his widow that he was totally hot for after watching her bathe on her rooftop. He basically killed her husband so that he could have her, and she did not marry him willingly. And these actions led to a civil war in Israel. This is not accurate. Michal and David had a child together. Her name was changed to Eglah. She gave birth to David’s sixth son Ithream. She died during child birth. “She had no children until the day of her death.” You have to look into Jewish teachings to learn the real story.

You left out so much important facts about David and Michal. When David was living in the country area, away from Saul, the king gave Michal who was David's wife to another man. After David became king he demanded she be brought back to him. The man who was not legally her husband, since David never gave Michal a "writing of divorce" which she'd have needed according to Deuteronomy chapter 24, she remained David's legal wife. Michal's new man pleaded with David, if he was displeased with her, to return Michal to him. David refused and ordered him on threat of the man's life to leave, which he did. It seems Michal had grown fond or in love with this second man, which may have added to her animosity against David. This means however, she'd become "sexually unclean" to David. Sexual diseases had no cure in those days. She may have been healthy, but she'd be a risk to David sexually. Also if she'd had children from the House of Saul, that latter could become a threat to his Kingly House and his own children whom would inherit the crown. Why did he take off his kingly robes to worship. Because he was aware that God had declared Himself as King of Israel. Taking off his own earthly kingly robes was proper to honor and show he recognized God as true King of Israel in worship and praise. David provided for Michal all her life, in spite of everything which had happened, only withholding sexual relations and therefore a child from her. Personally, I think he should have given her a divorce and sent her back to the other man if she wanted, but maybe, in some way, he still loved her.
@FeeOnYoutube Жыл бұрын

Tragic story: 2 young persons in love. David flees & does not take Michal with him. She in effect lies to her father, Saul, saying David threatened to kill her. David on the run takes a new wife, Abigail. Saul gives Michal to a new husband, with whom she appears to have had a happy marriage. David becomes King & demands that Ishbosheth, pretended king successor to Saul in the north, send Michal back to David. He does so. One day David celebrates in the streets, like hob nobbing with the riff raff to Michal, who probably had aristocratic airs. She looks out the window & despises David in her heart! They quarrel. Michal eventually dies childless. -- Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it flow the issues of life.

So is the fact that he never sent for her in all the years he was gone, instead marrying Abigail a VERY rich widow and other women as well. Also - Ishbosheth was not a 'pretend' successor to Saul - he was his son and heir. When two men murdered Ishbosheth and brought his head to David, thinking he'd reward them, David instead had them killed, calling them "wicked men" who slayed a "righteous person in his own house on his bed." David wanted Michal back solely for political purposes, and Michal (the smart woman she was) knew it. Of course she despised him. He abandoned her (allowing Saul to give her to another) and only wanted her for political expediency - and to ensure she never had a son that could be a potential rival to the throne. (The remainder of Saul's grandsons were handed over after the Absalom incident to the Gibeonites to be killed.)

David could not have had a male heir by Michal. For then Saul's lineage and rule would not have ended with Saul

The thing is, though, David danced so enthusiastically that, his advance came out and was also bouncing up and down.

I had a dream today of my Twin Flame and her family having a meal in their home. I visited the home but saw they were breaking bread so I walked past the home and visited someone at a nearby home. I walked back by the home where they were celebrating a small child's birthday. I didn't stop but walked onhome.

All male descendants of Saul were wiped out by sword disease or disability. When God's blessings are withdrawn, nothing good can come out of a man's hard work.

You are killing me by calling Michal "Michael". In Hebrew it's pronounced me-hall, accent on the 2nd syllable. The h should have a guttural sound to it. "Michael" is a man that Obama married. Michal is an actual woman, female figure from The Bible. Don't get the two so confused.

David danced naked, embarrassing Michal, and then he threw a massive tantrum when she expressed her discomfortt, then he banished her. That's not the only time he failed as a human being. It doesn't matter that he danced for God. He made an embarrassment of himself.

biblical stories remain what they are; stories... stories are often told to teach morals and values. biblical stories do not always conform with plausibility and reality, however the messages conveyed are unarguably golden.

When you were talking about Michal it sounded like you were talking about most or perhaps quite a few of the women today.

Saul is a perfect example of how a narcissistic oppressors behavior described in JEREMIAH 7 not taught in CHURCH OF today. Psalms 64 NASB; I HAVE THIS COMPLAINT... IN.
