I take this with a grain of salt. I'm sure there are points of the show that are produced, but the people who lash out are also the people who fought the hardest on his changes. The pirate bar was run by idiots who then came to him again later on asking for help and he said "No" because they disrespected him and burned the stuff he got for him on air. Of course some of these people are going to be unhappy and critical of the work he does. And like bitter bar owners would never lie themselves. FFS. People said the same thing about Chef Ramsey's show "Kitchen Nightmares". But he's also had a lot of success stories from people who would surely debunk the crap the bitter people are spewing. Why not talk to the people who were happy with the job he did? You're more likely to get the true story from the successes than the failures.

There are literally episodes that show what heppend to those bars who got rescue... Some fails and some mange to pay the bills but this show is real...no matter how they choose or what ever... The two biggest problems in these bars is owners and employees drinking at work, and having a dirty bar/kitchen.

I think it varies from state to state in which it's legal for bar employees to drink on the clock, but regardless, I think drinking on the job has its place... at a bar. Think about it, you have a busy night and you want to have fun with customers. You want to sell more drinks. So long as the drink is paid for, the bartender engages with a customer this way and probably leads to more tips and product sold. It's a good way for customers to "bond" with staff and make them want to spend their time and money there. I personally wouldn't, but if a bartender turned down a drink from someone, they might feel insulted. There's a responsible way to do it IMO.

Yes and no, the corporate thing should have worked, but not with those people, they want to be pirate’s. Don’t change them, change location! In this case both the bar owners (whom came back for a reunion episode) and the producers of the show. They should never have picked them, but hey, it gave good ratings. And the bar owners should have just relocated, instead of going on the show and getting there hopes up for a 15 min fame.

Most of these shows take much longer. For instance Extreme Makeover Home edition, has plans drawn up, pulls permits, gets hoa approvals, purchases materials months in advance. They do not take 7 days. John's show is no different. They have to pull building permits for a lot of the things they do in the make overs. They don't just redo the bar overnight. I can confirm though that some of the owners are right, it's a simple retraining that most of the employees need for the bar to be rescued. Even Throwbacks/ Murpheys was a simple paint and rearrange for the makeover. The rest of it was really the employees not knowing a lot of things. Now they have reverted the name back and brought back the original drink menu, but they know how to pour now

There’s only like three places that have talked about the show being fake. They were all failures. I’m convinced that it is the ‘realest’ reality show on the air. I’d be surprised if nothing was ever fudged or distorted, but it is very difficult to find rescued bars that are calling the show fake outside of a handful of infamous failures

I always assumed this show was mostly written because it’s on TV of coarse but those disgusting kitchens, fridges, & freezers take time and real neglect to get as bad as a lot of episodes. I was at the 100th episode of TWD @ Greek theater. Jon Taffer was there. I watch, and filmed him and his wife try to go into the hospitality vip. They wouldn’t let him in lol. He got pissed off and started making a scene. He quickly stopped and realized how he looked. I got pictures and filmed it. I mean yeah it’s going to be a lot of similar predictable stuff because all these failing bars basically have all the same problems and issues. John has 5 days to turn around a bars fortune and to get owners to admit failure and their terrible decisions they have to be chewed out and exposed or else they won’t change. Some owners don’t get as bad of a lashing because they took responsibility and did everything that was asked and ran with it. But most owners refuse to change and make it difficult, plus some of the horrible code violations are very serious and could lead to somebody getting sick or dying and Jon has every right to scream at them about it. Piratez bar is not a good source for valid opinions. Given they wanted Taffer to return a second time, and they wound up closing down anyways. As for success/failures, Taffer can't fix every bar they go to...some owners, like the O face bar people, deserve every bit of contempt they got and more.

All I know about Piratez is what I saw on that show and this vid. I seriously have to ask, WTF was Tapper thinking changing a Pirate themed bar into a Corporate themed bar? Did he really think these people who dress and talk like pirates every day(Owners included), are going to say, "I like this plan, Lets do this"? If they wanted to act like a corporate drone, they could make more money actually being a corporate drone around the corner. I'm not at all surprised they closed down. Fact is that lots of kitchen staff like it when it’s dead because it’s easy $ Otherwise you work your a## off for what is usually low wages and bartenders get better tips over pouring and giving away drinks Lots of customers like over pours since the drinks get ya buzzed quicker
