Bear Grylls may have been born in the United Kingdom, but his show Man vs. Wild was just as popular in the United States as it was in his home country (where it was known as Born Survivor: Bear Grylls), if not more so. Viewers loved seeing the survivalist go up against all of nature’s challenges, but Grylls faced a lot of controversy over just how authentic his show was. He is still going strong regardless, and he has even taken a president into the wilderness with him, so let’s take a look at the untold truth of Bear Grylls.

I mean he is tough as nails for being part of the SAS but his "Survival" scenarios are not real. People will and have died by following what he does. He showed nothing with edible plants, shelter building, things to do and not to do. Cut and Dry, his survival technique he was showing was just all for Hollywood.

Petty stuff, goes to show how people will try and hate on anyone. He's not trying to prove he can survive, he's trying to make a tv show that teaches YOU how to survive

Spot-on, Ben. I always understood those things about the segments. But when, barely able to talk or move, he finally apologises to his crew and says he has to give up ... after getting wet down and standing in front of an industrial fan in freezing weather to test how long he could last before being incapitated by hypothermia ... you know he's genuine. His critics probably think he should have just frozen up and died ... as the crew filmed on ....

First, he is admittedly a badass, he's gone through SAS training and climbed Everest. But he lies about the conditions he is in and teaches people the wrong things just so that he gets media attention or looks cool. Just because a group of people hate something doesn't make them all 'haters' (I know literally it does but the word has become an insult at this point) people hate him because he is a bad role model. 'Haters,' the way your thinking about them, implies that there is no reason to hate him. But there are clearly multiple reasons to hate the man. Am I wrong?
@punchdrunkatheist
@punchdrunkatheist 6 жыл бұрын
He's not fake. That makes the problem even worse. His horrible survival advice isn't an accident. SAS training doesn't teach someone to do the stupid shit he passes as survival training. He climbed Mt. Everest with a broken back. But he broke that back doing his stupid shit he teaches people. In the real world, if you're in a survival situation you do everything you can not to burn your hand, much less break your fucking back. That's the reason his staying in hotels matter. That's not a luxury someone in a true situation can afford. If you aren't going to be airlifted in the next 15 minutes, probably don't do shit that's risky. He's not fake in his abilities, or toughness, or knowledge. He's a shit for misleading people who don't have the luxuries of immediate airlift from being stupid with bad survival tips. Running from a grizzly bear? Seriously?

@punchdrunkatheist
@punchdrunkatheist 6 жыл бұрын
Running is the absolute worst thing you can do as it triggers the chase mechanism in the Grizzly's brain. And he will outrun you. This isn't the hardest thing to find as it's literally written thousands of times in books, on trails, etc. If you go anywhere in bear country it's all over the place. If you encounter a grizzly, do not run. Avoid direct eye contact. Walk away slowly, if the bear is not approaching. If the bear charges, stand your ground (you cannot outrun it). Don’t scream or yell. Speak in a soft monotone voice and wave your arms to let the animal know you are human. If you have pepper spray, prepare to use it. If the grizzly charges to within 25 feet of where you’re standing, use the spray. If the animal makes contact, curl up into a ball on your side, or lie flat on your stomach. Try not to panic; remain as quiet as possible until the attack ends. While in bear country, be aware that you may encounter a bear at any time. Be sure the bear has left the area before getting up to seek help. Grylls' suggestions of punching the bear or running will get you more dead than letting the animal attack you. More people survive a grizzly attack by just laying still and letting it happen, than those who try and fight or flee. Grizzlies aren't interested in eating people, they're protecting young, territory, or you've simply startled it. They don't attack for no reason. When they do attack, and they perceive the threat to be dealt with they simply walk away. Laying still will give the grizzly the idea the threat is over hopefully before it kills you. Running is the same as fighting back. It triggers a predatory reaction and it will attack much more violently at the outset. The best thing you can do is avoid bears entirely by having bells or something noisy on you as you hike. Bears will just avoid you all together unless you accidentally come across a den with cubs. At that point you're screwed no matter what you do.
@JustMe-ql9li
@JustMe-ql9li 6 жыл бұрын
Oscar Edmondson yes you are wrong. First of all the term "hater/haters" is not really an insult and you obviously don't know what it means.. The term "hater" basically means that you are hating on someone (most likely someone successful) without any real reasons. In this case, I never have heard of any hate against bear that wasn't either false point blank or came out of someone's mouth who just doesn't know what they're talking about. End of the story

Bob Martin but the point is he said he had done it 100% honest. And I went to PGL and an insctructor told us about how beat grylls instructor taught them and that he has too check everything before the show starts and half the things he does would get you killed unless you checked it out. But that isn’t shown. So it may just be the ‘crazy shit’ is JUST TO DANGEROUS. The point is, he isn’t honest. How is that setting an example to all the young kids who try to copy what he does because he is there idol. It’s not fair

How shitty of an argument is that. Why would anyone have to climb mount everest before disaproving of Bear Gryll's dishonesty? Colin Enright ppl who dont know fk all about survival, primitive skills, or bushcraft, think this guy is a bad ass... but in a true survival situation u wouldnt do half of what he does. like climb down a 100meter root off a cliff or cross a single rope over a canyon gap. most of what he does is the opposite of what you want to do in a survival situation. he does things that is more likely to get you hurt or possibly die. watch survivorman instead. Les Stroud is 10x the man bear idiot grylls is.

Simon Signolet you could not be more wrong. For a start when you join the SAS even when you leave you never actually leave still get called up at anytime and the SAS say in there own rules you are part of them up till death. The sky diving accent he past out that's why he couldn't pull he's reserve. And when a load of kid's went missing in a remote place the British government sent him out to find them and he did. He also has a knight hood by the Queen and the Queen also drop all scouts to him as top leader over her so they don't do it for Queen and Country it's for bear grills and County. And out side of the SAS he's consider the best survival person in the world even been said by the top SAS that he is. One last thing he was ask to help train the British Amy. Next time you want to say something about someone get your facts right

21 SAS is the original SAS. It has existed since WW2. Only in recent years has it been moved from special forces to ISTAR (intelligence). It is now primarily an intelligence/recon unit.

He sure is! Let's say he might have rested in a motel during the shooting. But the fact that he climbed Mount Everest after almost dying just a couple years ago tells a lot about his character. BTW it takes at least a year of preparation to climb that giant and that too for professionals.

MemeMacheen Sorry to hear that, but you have to understand that Bear Grills showed people how to survive. Would you risk your life for a tv show and some money? I'm not saying he faked everything, i have no doubt that a good amount of it was real, but it was all for the sake to teach others and entertainment.

Are people seriously calling him fake for spending a few nights in a hotel or not completely assembling his own raft!? its a damn tv show, its meant to teach you a few survival skills, but mostly it's just for entertainment. Its obvious he has a whole camera crew with him so why is it such a crime if he gets some help building things and doesn't actually spend the whole time sleeping in the huts he builds. He risks his life to bring us all entertainment, people need to stop being so triggered by stupid things.
@mikelaughlin8386
@mikelaughlin8386 6 жыл бұрын
The question should be, could he build that raft if he were really stranded in that situation and didn't have a crew filming it so we could learn survival tips. Answer: I believe he could ... and can do everything else he's demonstrated. Would he always have survived? Possibly not, as he demonstrated some survive or die situations where you'd have to make decisions, such as eating dead meat raw ... but the alternative would have been to just roll up and die.

Bear Grills is actually and extremely nice guy, who has done so much in his life. He went to Eton which in itself is very impressive, and served for the army as put in this video. You can hate him, by looking at it from a very negative perspective, or try to see the good in him which all of you don’t see through the media. My family and I as-well as some mutual friends, spent a day with Bear and his family. He was a great guy and extremely charismatic. He has got so many stories to tell, and you have to give your hats off for all he has done, his out of the ordinary-adventurous lifestyle and determination to succeed in whichever task he chooses to pursue.
