Looper, this is a nice video but one of the most transporting and transfixing components of Blade Runner is Vangelis' absolutely stellar soundtrack. It's by far one of the greatest movie scores and it is this that ties all of the visuals, the themes, and the actors together. It's haunting, beautiful, and heartbreaking all at once, true techno blues.

Absolutely, when I saw this and Alien, 2001, they blew me away and were/ are my favorite science fictions films.... which was a bit counter to my Star Wars fan friends ;) So many details aspects of this, sound track, costume, cinematography, casting, etc. were perfect for the time and place. More 'clear cut' simple happy ending movies like ET will always do better than movies like Blade Runner. Most people don't go to movie theaters to see something deep, but rather just to be entertained and turn their mind 'off' for a while.

I saw Bladerunner in theatre in 1982 with a couple friends. They thought it was slow & boring, I absolutely loved it. It had such a different aesthetic & tone from all the other scifi films which were popular at the time. Either they were straight up action adventures, monster movies or Lassie Come Home with a cuddly alien. Bladerunner was something different & has definitely been influencial. (Gataca is another fave of mine) I think Bladerunner 2049 came a little closer to capturing some of the ideas in PKD's Do Androids Dream, but the original film is a classic for sure.

Philip K Dick was an obscure author. He was a failure in life. Only after he committed suicide, his novels were appreciated. Half the great Sci fi, was his work. It was Heinlein who kept him going. He gave Philip K Dick money to keep writing. I was planning to go to Clifford's Cafeteria to revisit where Heinlein, Bradbury and others would discuss their works, but I found out , they closed it several years ago. It's sad.

Blade Runner is probably my favorite movie of all time, or at least tied with Aliens. I've read Dick's book as well, to better understand the original material, ideas, and themes. I went back and forth between the Original '82 Blade Runner and "The Final Cut" for some time on which one was best. For me I ended up coming to the realization that The Final Cut was better only because I understood the original, therefore the '82 US Theatrical Version was ultimately the best. The book was a good supplemental for both versions, and no disrespect to Dick, but Scott's silver screen treatment brings an emotional and "human" connection that I just didn't get out of the book. Regardless, our opinions like our lives are all just "tears in the rain". I just wanted to share mine and my love for this particular piece of art.

Couldn't agree more. Fell in love with the original theatrical release when it came out, appreciate all the other versions, have read the book several times yet nothing can capture the atmosphere of the original movie ... except Alien. I find the latter weirdly melancholic too. But both are cinematographic, directorial masterpieces.

Well, being a HUGE Harrison Ford and Ridley Scott fan, I was one of the people that saw Blade Runner in the theaters when it came out. I also was in Industrial Design School at the U of Illinois and our teacher knew Syd Mead (? or one of the main designers on the film). We got to see a few original drawing concepts for some of the cars and other set pieces. It was very cool. My mother bought me one of my very 1st VHS movies when I was just a kid. It was Blade Runner. Likely on discount and she had no idea what it was really about. It changed my life on how I viewed movies and sci-fi. I understood it's was epic and timeless at the age of 13, and have pondered over the decades since why so much crap still comes out and why so few appreciate such art when it appears. Mind you, my favorite books at 13 was The Lord of Rings ... while most of my friends were into comics. The 2nd VHS she bought me? Apocalypse Now. Somehow she had great taste in movies without knowing a single thing about them.

There’s very little that I would change about The Final Cut version. I suppose the moment in which Batty kills Tyrell could’ve had the nuts and bolts bursting out of his head, as Ridley Scott once suggested in the Dangerous Days documentary. The idea that Tyrell was an android front and that Barry’s real maker was dead in a crypt elsewhere in the Tyrell Corporation would’ve underlined just how well and truly doomed Batty was in that moment.

The original story "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep" is very funny, not at all like the movie. Incidentally, the term "blade runner" is not explained in the movie. It was lifted from another Philip K. Dick story in the same anthology as "Do Androids...". The premise is that after an atomic war many survivors have received far beyond their life doses of radiation and are thus susceptible to cancers and other ailments. These people have been imprisoned in a ghetto, where only palliative care was available. However, some brave doctors have chosen to practice in the ghetto, providing surgeries and chemotherapy. Medical supplies are smuggled in by a group known as "blade runners." There you are.

It was 3 hours long and it was quite good. I have seen several of the mixes and the worst has to be when they cutout Hauers monologue. Thanks for the the video, it was informative and enjoyable. I think the voice-over was necessary and I like it better than without. I also think it provided information that we couldn't have gotten otherwise about the characters such as when he said Bryant was the the kind of guy who used to call Black men ni**ers. I don't you could have told us that by showing it; maybe through dialogue but it worked best as part of the voice-over.

few singular events, literally, impacted me in my 62 years more than seeing Blade Runner in its first week back in '82. I was completely transported for weeks, nothing seemed the same for long after. it sounds maybe a little vacuous today that a movie could affect like that, but i remember how believable, tragic, beautiful, frightening, sensuous, exciting it all was...immersed in this other-world that you either got, or didn't...from the opening moment when the city came to light amid that amazing soundtrack. when faced with mortality then living becomes so much more precious. I couldn't speak after it ended. i do like the ambiguity of the later cut better, tho...so more true to life than escaping to the bright sunlight. I try not to watch it often, so that it might retain its magic and not become familiar

Look here I'm gonna say it. Now all I seem to ever hear about one of my all time favorite flics, is a complaint about the one thing I LOVE MOST about is... the voice over, narration, whatever you wanna call it. In the honor of, The Big Sleep and the '75 version of, Farewell My Lovely. I'll even take Bogies on screen narration in the Maltese Falcon, man for some reason I really enjoy the voice over thing. See I guess it's one's enjoyment versus story appreciation awareness cuz like for me anyway, when the movie is trying to be suspenseful and intriguing, well I don't know about you, but I'm usually disappointed, you know like "Gee, I didn't know the bad guy was gonna try and kill the good guy!?!" See they always end up being too comical. So when they do that narration I think it really adds to the movie like the director of it or whoever's in charge admits to being in on the joke. Hundreds of movies use the narration thing and I really like every one of them. Had to say, "really like" cuz there are quite a few really bad movies in there. OK well I've had my say: Hooray for "Blade Runner [#1]", long live the King!

It's still possible for Deckard to be a Replicant, even afer 2049. It was only Nexus 6 that have a 4 year life span. Deckard is an expert on replicants, and doesn't need information about replicants from Tyrell, so when Tyrell is explaining to Deckard that Nexus 6 have a 4 year life span, that's new information for Deckard, Tyrell's not talking about ALL replicants... he's ONLY talking about Nexus 6 (a brand new, cutting edge models that Deckard isn't experienced with). The Nexus 6 are impervious to pain, ascetically beautiful, they're stronger, faster, and smarter than humans... but Deckard would be a Nexus 5 or even 4. Older Nexus models are most likely indistinguishable from humans, warts and all, and wouldn't have a shortened life-span.

It makes better sense for Deckard to be human, he was in the novel, and Villeneu making him human in the sequel makes it that humans and replicants can breed, have children, and so would show there's no real difference between the 2, resulting in civil war and the possibility humans could be made extinct.

Blade Runner had sequences that were direct copies of Frits Lang's 'Metropolis'. The Cityscape itself was a direct steal. Not complaining about that inspiration, but you should have recognized and mentioned it.

The thing about Gaff's character is he's probably the most human character we get in this movie, his knowledge of "City-Speak" makes him even more human.

Dick didn't hate the film; he said (sorry, I can't find the interview, so I'm paraphrasing) that it wasn't true to the book, but that it would be impossible to be true to the book on film. He also said "let me tell you, that was one of the most successful moments of my career" after watching a screening and wrote in a letter that "Blade Runner is going to revolutionize our conceptions of what science fiction is and, more, can be". Who does your research? Hell ... you once even called Chunk (from the Goonies) Chuck.

I thoroughly enjoyed the original theatrical release, but I am also a fan of Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler. So to me the original theatrical release was more like a scifi film noir detective drama a la those authors. While many may not have cared for the voice-overs, I thought it captured the esthetic wonderfully.

This movie stands in a category of it's own , it feels real , it is at once humourous and sad ,out of this world scenery ,well acted ,and a great story . It does not resort to horror or monsters or mega weapons or supernatural bs that makes ET , Alien ,Startrek, etc end up with superficial characters that only children can relate to .

I like the version with the voice over of Deckard. As a kid I was home a lot from school from an illness. I watched a lot of old movies on the daily matinee. Many of the old movies were old black and white detective stories with the voice of the detective telling the story as the movie progressed. The original theatrical release of Blade Runner made me feel at home. I watch both versions. But the original gives me that old Hollywood detective Noir feeling.

The Blade Runner is a movie that is best understood with some adult experiences of death and the disparities of life. One would not necessarily get it as a young teenager in the 80'ies. But those same teens, would return to it as adults. And get it.

Was at 'World Premier' think it was March 82 in San Diego, Harrison Ford was there. Knew I had seen something special, but felt it was a bit off so understood the changes when released to all later that year. Really wish that version was available to watch again.

OK, original view of movie here. I saw it around September, 1982, and my older brother. Then 15 and an Alien fan, and I were blown away. We’ve seen in again and again and it never gets old. Still seems fresh. But I still prefer the vocal narrative and not without. It really add to the film noir style, and I can’t watch it without. It’s amazing how some many of the creators and viewers have problem with what I think is one of the best movies ever. (Yes, we liked the sequel, though not as iconic.)

Oddly this and Constantine are my favorites, and it speaks to me, partly because I can see Los Angeles in both movies. Yep Sunny California but at night and gloomy. I've seen other movies with Los Angeles, and seen my street in movies. People tell me important movies filmed near by. But those movies I don't seem to see the same Los Angeles.

7? Didn't know that, suggests that the real impact of the show is greater than one might guess. Liked the film. I have a DVD of it around here somewhere.... I have a DVD of the last Bladerunner too. Wasn't there an actors' strike in the middle of filming the first one? Had time, if true, for those incredible sets and rewrites.

The movie blew me away when I first saw it . I STILL think it's the BEST science fiction movie ever made . Harrison Ford hated working in the rain for the majority of the time filming . That and he couldn't get a personal connection with Sir Ridley while filming . Sir Ridley paid more of his attention to Sean Young . It was almost a conspiracy talking about the negative rumors of just the making of the picture it seems to me . It's like the whole industry wanted it to fail . The whole geopolitical view of the movie is it's a very almost accurate dystopian oligarchy nation . Phillip K. Dick loved the special effects that were made BUT he just didn't like the script changes from the novel .

I had read the Phillip K. Dick short story "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" prior to Bladerunner being released. I was sitting front row center when it came out. I thought is was amazing. The most believable future world I had ever experienced on the big screen. The aspect in the original story that resonated with me is how Deckard hated hunting down replicants. Because the more he hunted them down he had to suppress his own feelings. That he was actually killing people, not cyborgs. So the more he did it, the more he became a person without feelings. Without a sole. He felt like he was turning into them. Then he realized that the more he hunted them the more they became less of a cyborg, and became more human. With complex feelings. So in the original story, Deckard is definitely a human, not a replicant. I don't care what Ridley Scott says.

I have to admit, I didn't like it at first. Maybe because I'd read "Bladerunner" by Nourse and was upset they used the title, maybe because I saw it an old theater and felt like cockroaches were running up my back ... But the more I watched it, the better I liked it until it's one of my favorite films. The story, the acting, the lighting and the soundtrack. I've seen several documentaries on its making and they all increase my respect for Ridley Scott's and the whole crew's work on it.
