I am actually beginning the series of The Brady Renovation that I dvr'd. I was born in 1960 and that show was a big part of enjoyable t.v. viewing. I have to admit at the beginning of part 1 I began to sob like a baby. Things aren't the same in families anymore and I miss those family values that I too grew up in. Missing my mom and dad alot right now. Thank you for reading my comment and bless you

As a child of the 1970’s, I was privileged to watch many classic television shows in that decade. Mary Tyler Moore, Shirley Jones, Esther Rolle, and Florence Henderson. I found it to surreal when Miss Henderson died three years ago. It ended an era of those stars who we thought would be around forever but I realize that wasn’t true. Rip

I agree Jessie. The only thing is the cut was actually called a "shag" haircut. It was popular in 1971 and '72, but was gone by 1973. Another difference is that the '80s male mullet was short on the sides but long in the back. I know what you mean though. It is the quintessential Carol Brady cut!

Florence Henderson became determined when she began to the show to be a real mom and a role model because she grew up in a dysfunctional family.. She actually did love the children in the show as well as her own. She had four of them. She sung year after year, the National Anthem at the Indianapolis 500. She wanted to do something for the United States and act as a role model to help children in general that would see the show. She was highly patriotic. She broke the chain of passing her bad childhood on to her children. When someone recognized her on the street, she was always tried to be very warm to the person because she knew that the person might very well see her as the character she played and had a strong connection to her.

She was the original Laurie in "Oklahoma" on Broadway, a visit to Wikipedia or pulling it up as she sang with fellow cast members on the Ed Sullivan Show will prove this. One can pull up the cast members singing to the music right here on You Tube. Makes sense that she and Shirley were great friends. Maybe I am wrong but I heard the rumor that although Henderson was the spokesperson for Wesson Oil and the matriarch of the Brady Bunch family, that in her personal life Florence admitted that she really wasn't much of a cook.

The only personal story I know of her was from a friend that my dad had in his small scale modelers club when I was a kid. It was some time during the early 80's before cell phones and the guy was standing in line waiting to use one of the payphones they used to have in rows of 10 or so.... Here he is standing in line and this woman just walks up to the phone once someone was hanging up and says "can I make a quick call, I'm Florence Henderson!" & the people in line were saying "don't give a shit who you are, wait in line like the rest of us!" I believe this story.

I studied voice with Kay Lande, who appeared on children's shows in the late Sixties and was a contemporary of Henderson. In fact Lande considered Henderson a friend until one day after not seeing each other for a while they ran into each other. Lande said hello like anyone would; Henderson had gotten too big for her britches and the first thing out of her mouth was "Do I know you?" I've hated that woman for fifty years. I don't believe in rejoicing over someone's death but don't expect me to shed any tears.

@mainecoon65145 жыл бұрын
Shirley Jones was superb as Shirley Partridge. I loved it when she and David Cassidy sang while the others pretended to sing. That look, expression on her face became her trademark. Jones wanted her character to work rather than take roasts out of the oven or make sandwiches which is what Alice (BB) did. Florence Henderson was the perfect actress to portray Carol Brady, She herself could've used a mom like Carol Brady who was the perfect mom. Florence wanted Carol to have a job, but for some reason, the producers didn't listen to her.

I don't know what combination of genetics, lifestyle and life lotto happened to her but she stayed pretty and youthful until 82! Not like "wow, she's plucky for an old granny" but like... like she was a 'hottie' and stopped aging at around 57. Crazy!

Is any of this really terrible celebrity dirt here? I don't think so, in fact, quite the opposite. I enjoyed watching reruns of the Brady Bunch when I was a kid, they don't make shows like that any more. I know that in reality trying to blend families like that is not easy, everyone is not going to automatically get along, but maybe the reason this was such a great show, is that it showed what could happen if everyone made an effort to get along well with each other!

If her parents were so poor, why would they have 10 children? That's ridiculous.
@pinkdiamonds91377 жыл бұрын
simon madi low class people often have many children due to the low socioeconomic background, they often can't afford birth control or abortions, don't have access to comprehensive sex education especially back when she was born in the 30's! Plus sex was such a forbidden subject back then, no one talked about it or educated their children on safe sex. And, there's the possibility that they could have gotten poor after they had their kids, not likely but a possibility.
@simonmadi11777 жыл бұрын
PinkDiamonds But you also have to think that if you can't afford to have that many kids, then you just don't. People have brains , but they often don't use that muscle. Just like those people in Africa that have so many children and expect the rest of the world to take care of them.
@thebitchisback23927 жыл бұрын
simon madi Where did you get that idea? In third world countries they don't even have clean water let alone birth control. The government if you can call it that doesn't have benefits to help them and wouldn't help them if they did. Don't judge these people because for some it's religious reasons that they have kids and some are not able to access the education we have. We are blessed to live in a country to have the knowledge and options that others don't. There are plenty of Americans that have these benefits and either don't use them or they abuse them. Have a wonderful day:)
@simonmadi11777 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter where you live. I don't care if it's children or a dog. If you can't afford something, you don't get it. I would like to live in a mansion and drive nice cars, but I can't afford those things so I don't get them. Period.
@thebitchisback23927 жыл бұрын
