Marvel's upcoming superhero horror movie The New Mutants will be the last entry in the X-Men film series, but it will finally introduce the titular superhero team that has been a part of Marvel Comics since 1982.
One of the characters that the movie will bring to life on the big screen is the Native American mutant Dani Moonstar, also known as Mirage, whose psychic abilities enable her to create visions that harm her enemies.

I’m Native, I’m Northern Cheyenne specifically, and hope they didn’t change her tribal origins in the movie! I am also glad that they had a legit Native Actress play a native character. You have no idea how many movies cast non-Natives in Native roles in movie adaptations.

You forgot a major part of her story as well as evolution of her powers. No pun intended in the major event the High Evolutionary goes on a Eugenic culling of mankind. Seeking out all of the "weak links" in humanity. He goes after some mutants with radioactive powers and tries to depower them with a machine he invented. Daniel Moonstar in the process gets thrown into the machine and is having her powers stripped from her. The 2 mutants they were trying to save are dying after being subjected to the power sapping machine. In their collective final dying breath they push the lever to the extreme opposite setting while Daniel Moonstar is caught in it's midst. The effect is that her projecting the other person's worst fears actually becomes real flesh an blood. She can only do this with one thing at a time. She creates her own first pegasus and turns him into her own spear .

Great actors stuck in generic movie plotlines tbh Dani's character never had development through out the run thats why Magik was more likeable than her.

I liked it. I think they did a good job with the characters and the story and the visuals. It feels like there should be a little more to it... The ending felt a bit abrupt. But the cast was great and I think they nailed the characters.

was at the New Mutants inception. this was back when Marvel introduced a larger, self contained, slightly mature format called "graphic novel." I think The New Mutants was the third(?) installment. I was a pre-teen. good times. the Asgardian Wars was one of my absolute favorites. Marvel's merry band of mutants travels to Asgard and - Storm is transformed into the goddess of thunder. Xian Coy Manh had become physically distorted because of the shadow king, Dani became a valkyrie, a portion of Ragnarok (if memory serves) was depicted. incredible artwork by Arthur Adams. this video was a love letter to my childhood. special shout out to Cypher and Warlock as the Team Supreme.

Dani also went by the codename"Psyche" and didn't become"Mirage" until(New Mutant's #19), She's been an advisor of the(New Mutant"s) training squad,mentoring characters like Elixir,Wither,Trauma,Prodigy etc..She was also briefly working with S.H.E.I.L.D. to infiltrate"MLF"Mutant Liberation Front,during her time with X-Force Dani was 15 when she joined the New Mutants,I've been a huge fan of them since they first appeared

I love how everybody is talking about all the characters in the New Mutants movie but there's one character that they just totally just did not include at all and that is karma who is the Vietnamese character who's the first person that Xavier recruits she's a very important Vietnamese character and the oldest of all the New Mutants when they first meet each other, it's bad enough how they whitewash sunspot but not to include her is ridiculous

One of the reasons why they probably didn't add her was the fact that during those earlier issues in the comics when the team was under leadership of Xavier and Magneto, She was barely around,mainly because she was being possessed by the"Shadow King"and when she wasn't being possessed she was searching for her siblings"Leong & Nga". Xi'an Coy Mahn:prounced"Shan"...she parted from the team via handwritten letter although she did return

Yay! I had heard of a few native’s for in Marvel comics. Mirage is my first search for them! My granddaughter’s are coming to stay with their Native American nana. For the summer. I need to give them present day fun - in addition to teaching them what own my mother, aunties, and grandmother taught/teach me. Mirage (and any others I can find) will help me engage these young girls!

I like the idea that scarlet witch changes the time line in some connection to her kids. She almost killed off the x gene in the same situation in the comics after mephisto takes her kids like they mentioned here

Yes, the Demon Bear breaking through a wall in the movie / film wasn't needed, as it goes where it wants and can fit where it wants, even inside Dani's head. It was after all a Brood-controlled Professor Xavier making her power run out of control. In a later ret-con it was implied that a mystical entity called The Adversary was super-powering the Demon Bear.

There are clues in the original comics that places Dani's home in the area below the Medicine Bow Mountains, near Settlement outside Denver, where she was born in the hospital.

A lot of people don't know this all of the New Mutants except one were featured in the cartoon X-Men evolutions. I believe the exception was the Russian girl but I believe she's also Colossus daughter

Xi'an (Karma) was the first leader of the New Mutants, replaced by Sam (Cannonball) and Danielle (then Psyche, later Mirage) as peace chief and war chief respectively.
