Aramaic is still spoken across the Assyrian people. Assyrians have maintained their language and culture for thousands of years in the area of modern day Iraq, Syria and Southern Turkey. It was great recognising many words in the movie as I watched it e.g. shtook (quiet), shti (drink), Alahi (my God), khaya (life) etc. Iraqi Catholics, also known as Chaldeans, speak a confusing mixture of Assyrian and Arabic.

I was a sophomore in high school when Passion came out. For whatever reason, I can't remember. My English teacher found out I was going to see it. She asked me if I was religious in any way. I said no, I'm just a fan of film and Mel Gibson (before all his, stunts). So she then preceded to tell me during class I was to write a paper about it and share my thoughts about it for the class! FML lady, I just wanted to see a movie! I consider myself agnostic, even today. I thought it was a bunch of torture porn with Christian undertones! It was defiantly for believers in Christ. I've watched it only once since opening weekend. I still don't really care for it. But you can't hate on the man for knowing what will sell!

One of the problems with this film is it assumes the audience is familiar with the Gospels. Very familiar. Someone who sees this movie without this knowlledge will have no idea why the Jewish leaders wanted Jesus arrested and executed. A problem I have with the movie is why Satan was a bald woman and why she was holding a bizarre baby during the carrying of the cross.

I saw this movie for the first time when I wasn't even 10 years old yet and at 25 now, it's a gorgeous movie. If it disturbs audiences, then Gibson did his job because it's SUPPOSED to be disturbing. It shows what hardships our Lord went through and how much he would sacrifice to suffer and die for our sins. We truly don't understand how lucky we are that someone allowed themselves to be cruelly tortured and crucified for the sake of others.

@@andu1854 Well, the brutalization was our human nature towards an innocent man. The point of his sacrifice was dying in our place! Yes, what they did to him was unspeakable, but he conquered death, so that WE could live forever and free from sin.
@aarlam2 жыл бұрын
@@andu1854 You do make an interesting point. I could never watch my Son go through that. However, that's another element to why it happened. God sent his only Son to die for us, even though they mocked, tortured, and killed him! God or Jesus could've stopped it, but they knew what it would cost us if they did. Imagine that.
