I also use trapped chests for item input chests. Freezes the hopper beneath which has saved a few tools from my trash disposal system. Daylight sensors do have a few niches for automatic lighting systems, sugar cane/bamboo farm timers, and detecting someone breaking through blocks.

I use a daylight sensor in my enderpearl statis chamber so I can tp back to base by sleeping in a bed and skipping the night. This wouldn't be possible without the daylight sensor as far as I am aware.

Daylight sensors do have a unique use: synchronization. This is critical for item group based wireless Redstone (need to dispense items in the same game tick for it to work). Definitely not intended behavior, but it's got a place in my heart.

the fact that spawner minecarts exist hints to a paralell timeline where the spawners in mineshafts were put in minecarts, and the chests remained in their placed block form, instead of vice versa like in our timeline

I think they should update it or make a new block related to it that functions as a photoresistor, only letting a circuit through past a certain semi-dialed in time or as an actual LED solar panel, outputting less power as the night goes on

Spawner minecarts were cutting edge before command blocks could actually place blocks. Recursive spawners spawning falling sand entities that bring blocks into being, that was used in some of the oldest "modern" adventure maps, like early Hypixel stuff. Now, things are much more easier, of course, but it is kinda nostalgic seeing them.

daylight sensors are also used to synchronize clocks. for example to synchronize the wireless redstone by 2no2name it needs to have synchronized clocks so you use a daylight sensor.
@caspermadlener4191
@caspermadlener4191 11 ай бұрын
Daylight sensors were also used for Y-buds, but they removed that in 1.14, as a result of the light engine changes. Also, you can synchronise clocks automatically, but daylight sensors are useful if you have 2Hz or 1Hz transmission.

Trapped chests are technically not completely useless, but their use being exclusive to being the only unmovable transparent redstone redirector definitely gives that impression. Edit: I wrote double chests
@Mrshotshell
@Mrshotshell 11 ай бұрын
If you meant trapped chests they were extremely useful before 1.13 when you couldn't place double chests directly next to each other and had to alternate trapped and normal chests, and even now they're still useful as they lock any hopper below them while the chest is open

@Luaa I think you mean single chest because it will all convert to double chest so you need to alternate
@dimitribarronmore
@dimitribarronmore 11 ай бұрын
@@madiaw5553 Nope, double-chests. Minecraft had problems with placing three chests in a row for years and years because the chest block would literally just merge the inventories of any other adjacent chests, meaning if you clicked the one in the middle it would basically be a triple-chest. Obviously this was a terrible bug, so for years you simply couldn't place a chest next to an existing double-chest of the same type.

This was the first update I remember, and I remember *a lot* about it. I remember the WIP hopper texture, I remember when the daylight sensor got it’s moon cycle mode, I remember when quartz was added, I remember when the dropper was added, I remember when the minecarts with tile entities (+tnt -chest) were added, I remember when the weighted pressure plates were added, I remember how everyone forgot how weighted pressure plates work 2 snapshots later, I remember when trapped chests were added and how it was a big deal that now there was a way to place chests next to each other without them connecting (as well as giving map makers a good way to mess with unobservant players by running a redstone line behind a trapped chest), I remember when comparators were added and updated and how people only knew what they did by directly reading the update log, I remember when they made comparators able to read the value of containers and how everyone immedietly forgot about the add and subract modes, I remember when people found out comparator clocks existed, I remember how skeletons had a major glowup, I remember how slimes now actually existed outside of a handful of chunks per world, I remember container renaming, I remember how they made dispensers do like 10 times as much stuff so that they could add droppers, I remember how they got rid of the liquid cheese and replaced it with lava :( (but then they brought it back in Love and Hugs :) (in name only :( )), and I, of course, remember how they massacred bonemeal and pretty much lobotomized them forever :(

Spawner minecarts were actually quite insane. Way back before 1.7 and the introduction of the /setblock command it was the only way to place/remove blocks with falling sand entity (albeit looking extremely goofy and requiring a lot of experience to work with) Sethbling's showcase of a map utilizing this concept to its fullest is a hood classic

A redstone build incorporating structure blocks and command blocks to create something would be cool. What ive done before is put a set of 4 (or however many) structure blocks in one structure block, allowing me to load up an absolutely massive structure instantly. 0:12 I feel that's the wrong perspective. The fun thing about Minecraft back then was the limitations. You had very limited tools, and this bred interesting and intelligent ways of achieving your goals, whatever they may be. Just look at all the cool stuff people made in early versions! Now almost everything has a specific, intentional, easy way of doing it, which means you don't have to use your intelligence much at all. By adding all these options, you discourage people from thinking outside the block, and you end up limiting people to the intended path. It becomes like every other game.
@Purplers

Playing within limitations can be fun, but sometimes you just wanna be able to do more, a perfect example of this was upside-down and corner stairs

I get where you are coming from, but saying people are limited to the intended path is just straight up wrong. By adding so many options, people have many tools to innovate, but they still have to innovate! Making a 3x3 piston door is certainly easier now then back in the day. But making it smaller, faster and having cool animations still requires so much creativity and skill with redstone. Cauldrons and composters werent meant to be movable one directional power sources, jukeboxes werent meant to be a solid, power emiting, redstone redirecting container block. Its what people do with the tools provided, thats what determines if something can be innovative. Minecraft doesnt have a predetermined solution for everything, and blocks dont have one single use in one single contraption. Its still the game from all those years ago, you still have to innovate, just in a different way. I now realise I wrote an entire essay my apologies

Honestly before hoppers, on bukkit servers we praised craftbook for the signs that put items into a chest xD. Also I remember the old design for repeaters using blocks, redstone torches and wire. xD so much fun back then xD Daylight sensors I found to be useful in terms of speciifcally activating a farm every morning and every evening (twice a day). but thats because I specifically wanted it harvested during those times. (control of how much im getting tbh) but meh Spawner minecarts are amazing for spigot plugins and all. set them up to spawn any specific mobs, etc. or like the gamemode 4 command block thing for moveable spawners (I recreated into a plugin for sake of efficiency and removing the lag xD) they were great for doing that stuff. but eh
