I bought one of these and a pack of 3 refills for about 120$ each cartridge lasted 2-3 weeks in a 20 gal with minimal output (1 bubble every 2-3 sec). Every couple of days you'll need to increase the output from the cartridge in order to have the same results as you had a couple days prior. It's been my experience that these nano co2 kits are more novelty than practical, especially since you can build a refillable system with a much larger reservoir for around 150-200$. Not to mention that one time I almost froze off my hands trying to connect a new cartridge and it failed. Great video as always Alex, thanks man

I think it's hilarious that I go and buy this kit... and it's already been used, returned, and repackaged without the instructions or insert... So I had nothing to go on, it was already cut, valve already put on, and tank half empty. And then I go to Fluval's own video to see how to use it and without knowing anything at all about CO2 diffusers, I knew immediately their video was entirely unusable... So here I am. So that's a great production or flow rate for 10g! Nice work. I'd ideally recommend cutting off the system an hour before lights off...and turn it on with the lights. Plants only use the co2 while respiring during photosynthesis in the light. Likewise plants produce oxygen the entire light cycle also. At night they switch to using their stored energy and expel their extra co2 gas. So running co2 is beneficial all day, but at night it's just saturating the water and choking off oxygen for fish etc.

It may not be sealed in the air line...or the airstone may be so new that it hasnt soaked in enough water to be a pourus membrain of sorts... you can try turning the pressure up to double or triple...just for 10 or 20 seconds and see if it "breaks through". If that isnt the issue, you probably have a leak or stone thats defective and not letting air through. You can try using soapy water on the line to look for leaks and bubbles....but its usually at a valve or connection point that people lose their pressure, when that happens. Best of luck... try the tube without the stone if all else fails..if its not bubbling away, then for sure the issue is the line or valves... if it does bubble then its not enough pressure or a leak near the stone not the regulator, usually. Best of luck, sorry i cant help more

I would probably look for a 5# Tank used off craigslist or Facebook (used in home brewing or welding etc) . Then fill that up at a "trade in" AKA co2 swap place not a refill place (they cost 2 to 3 times more). Then I'd spend the big money on a regulator and the Diffuser. In the end, if you don't have a good Diffuser (and also gentle flow in the aquarium) nothing else about your setup even matters. Co2 arts, nilocg both make great co2 regulators. But the ones with good ratings on Amazon that cost around 60 dollars can be alright also (I'm using 2 of those currently.... it's linked in my video descriptions on most episodes... lastly get a check valve (50 cents to 2 bucks) and high pressure rated airline hose tubing. Best of luck! I hope that stuff helps somewhat

I've been running a few of these for a couple years, the drawbacks that you mentioned are totally accurate: really difficult to adjust with one hand because the whole thing turns, more difficult to adjust when the tank is full, and high cost of refills. I do a little modification to mine, use semi rigid tubing, a stainless check valve, and a glass bubble counter because the bubble counters the kits come with I've had trouble with them leaking. I do really like the diffusers. I've been seriously considering a larger Co2Art set up instead to save money, but need to find a good splitter, so I can run multiple aquariums off one large tank. Great review, Have you ever tried the DIY co2? how did it work ? Question about lights, I've noticed on a number of videos, low tech tanks too, people will hang their light (budget light at that) above their tanks. They get good plant growth too. Is there any benefit to hanging the light above the tank rather than resting it on the tank, Other than no algae?
@Fishtory2 жыл бұрын
So you can still get algae hanging the lights, but often times people are repurposing strong shop light LEDs/flood lights and so on, so they don't really fit on a tank naturally either. But the farther away the light, in general- the more plants reach for it. They move towards the light and get longer stems, with less leaf nodes when the light is not shining right against them. Also, once the plant becomes emersed, and is out of the water (even if it's only a few inches) it allows them to access the atmospheric co2, o2 and nitrogen...meaning emersed growth is actually more beneficial than any co2 under water. The diy systems work okay... they're a bit annoying and labor intensive, but they work about as well as this nano kit ... a good Diffuser is crucial to the diy way. Also if you're thinking of doing it, look into the gelatin/pectin gel method...it lasts the longest of the dozen or so types I've seen.
@pa.fishpreacher61662 жыл бұрын
I've noticed MD' tanks he does pretty much all low budget including lighting. True some of his diy flood lights were higher up but I've noticed even what he calls budget lights, he will have them what looks like 4 to 6 inch above the tank. So is it better to put the light above or just rest it on the tank? What about the fluval 3.0 which I have several but no co2. If this makes sense

@@Curtis.StMartin I believe it. I bought soley for the form factor. I'm using on a 5.5 gal. Heavily planted 'grow out' tank, and anything larger would be difficult to hide in my current setup. Due to the miniscule size of the tank though, I'm able to run at about 0.125 bubbles per second or 1 bubble every 7-8 seconds and maintain a stable ~25-30ppm. If I ever decide to put CO2 in the 75 gal, I will certainly buy a full sized setup. I think my current setup is the only place that this thing would be a better option than a full sized setup, but if I had a place to put a larger bottle/system it would not. I'm a firm believer that co2 is scam for the most part.. I mean there certainly is pros to running co2 and plants that require it but overall the average aquarist can grow all kinds of plants and have thriving planted tanks without any co2 at all...lol sry for ranting but I waisted so much on co2 and equipment only to throw it out and have thriving planted tanks with just good lighting and root tabs
@Fishtory2 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of plants that won't color up into the vivid , nearly neon shades without it, and some carpeting plants need it for sure. But most the plants people keep don't need it. And if you aren't daily Dosing with liquid fertz, using aquasoil and root tabs AND using a crazy bright light...there's no point in using co2 yet. So I definitely understand your feelings
@christinamorris28232 жыл бұрын
I KNOW right? unless you are in shows ya don't need it and your water flow doesn't need to be so high nor the growth rate as far as I am concerned...plants color up a lot with bight enough light and no nitrates...I'd say the biggest factor is giving bright enough light. At least that is what I have found in my experience...

@@christinamorris2823 why not js do a diy co2 system? That’s what I’ve been doing for years and it’s…really cheap

That little cartridge would probably last me 2 days. I have a 2 lb & a 5 lb bottle that lasts months. No way in the world that little cartridge lasts a month. Plus those little cartridges can get expensive.
@Fishtory2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I say how expensive they are... but yeah at the slowest rate for 6 to 8 hours a day, I've had the cartridges last a month... that being said- I have a 20 lb huge tank that has lasted me a year and cost $21-26 to fill at local weld shops
@Curtis.StMartin2 жыл бұрын
My problem is that I"d never use the lowest rate.

nice "short" video LOL. anywho....I bought gen 1, with the osmosis container, and that's all its good for. Gen 2 isn't much better. the needle valve is open or closed and soooooo finicky to get down to one bubble per second for small tanks. Besides, at 1 bubble every 2 seconds the 45g bottle will last 10 days nonstop. At 1 bubble per second, it's more like 3 -4 days. That's if it doesn't "dump" the whole thing after 24hrs like my second bottle did.
@Fishtory2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I can't figure out where the dump is coming from on this stupid thing ... I put water and soap around the fittings to see if any bubbles appeared...but nothing so far
@Luis-gc6fe2 жыл бұрын
I think it's better value the 95g kit, You get more CO2 spending a bit more of money
@Fishtory2 жыл бұрын
Yeah seems like that would be better. I've never seen those ones for sale locally though
@davidhess68992 жыл бұрын
2 months!? On what ,a Mason jar?I had a 95 gm that only lasted a week on a 40 gal with 3 to 4 drops per second. Buy the way size of tank is irrelevant. It's bubbles per second that determines how l I ng a tank last
@Fishtory2 жыл бұрын
Yeah on a 10 gallon at the slowest pace 8 hours a day... some are gone in 2 days due to crappy valves.

Have to say I was never tempted by these small systems. Looks like a cash grab from fluval, taking advantage of newcomers. Definitely worth spending a little more, to start with, and getting a proper regulator with a solenoid. Then whatever canister you want.
