I love my PS Vita 1000. I modded it immediately, unfortunately before the browser method was available. It was a good learning experience, though. I love Fez, but I'm totally lost as to where to go. There's no easy way to see where you are and how to get from A to B. I just beat Steamworld Dig, and I'm probably going to jump right into the sequel and spinoff. I also look forward to trying out the "Anomaly" Android ports that were recently ported over.

The Vita is an excellent example of a superior product design years before the market was ready. The fact that the Vita still holds up today is a testament to the quality and how future proofed Sony's design really was. I think the biggest tragedy is that we never got a successor! I think a PlayStation portable would do gangbusters in the market today, especially when you look at the success of the Steam Deck.

I think they should have waites a bit, so they could have just ported all games from the ps3 or ps4. The graphics were Really good for this time but not good enough for many games, so the game devoloper were forced to make exclusive games. The graphics were still good like i said so it was almost as much work to make a ps vita game as it was for a ps3 game, but the amount of games getting sold on Playstation handhelds is less, so they seemed not interested to invest in this

Biggest problem was Sony not understanding their market audience. Most wanted a successor to the PSP but at least in Europe, Sony always saw the Vita as a companion piece to the home consoles and focused it's marketing primarily on that. It's a damned shame as the Vita is a brilliant piece of kit and some of the launch titles like Uncharted proved it's might. It just didn't take long for me to go back to the PSP though as Sony just dropped the ball in getting any strong AAA titles on it after that first year or two

I love the Vita. The fact that i've used my slim several hours per week for 12-ish years. And the battery is still at a 92% capacity is extremly impressive. The hardware on this thing was top-notch and ahead of its time. Being the first handheld with dedicated game-streaming (of sorts).

@@darkblaze373 "several hours" is a bad phrasing. I've had weeks where i don't play it at all. And some weeks where i easily can stack up to 15-20 hours in a week if I'm into a game. My wife often plays it because shes into PS1 and PSP. I have not experienced stick drift. Ever actually. But i do have a friend help me open up my Vita once every while to do some lighter cleaning and such, dust and gunk you know? Also, ALWAYS clean the exteriour of your vita with isopropyl alcohol. As often as you can And he has helped me do some maintenance on the motherboard and the ports once every 3-4 years. I did switch out the sticks in like 2020. But that was not due to stick drifting. That was because i wanted to switch to custom sticks. And he showed me that my OG sticks was still fine. But the knobs was very worn out.

Overclock/fps counter, video output via the charge port, cheat menu on vita side, cheat menu for adrenaline, popsloader for more compatibility for ps1 through adrenaline(ex twisted metal games actually having the music) plus controller support. So many plugins that benefit from soft modding the vita. Plus better storage options. It would be silly not to mod it.

@punctuationgamer636 as long as the versions match, absolutely. Bonus points if you ftp it over. I cheated and use a thumb drive and my win10 as the tweener. In order to get my fallout install on my win98 pc to match the gog install on my win 10, I had to patch it so the version matched. For me the vita matched both of them out the gate. I own a lot of vintage computers so this is very cool to me.

Hey you don't actually need a memory card for 1000 model Vitas. I jailbroke one I bought recently and it's just a few extra steps in the jailbreak process. This thing is so awesome with what the homebrew community has done. Been playing the PSP GoW games as well as some of the community ports like Baba is You. Vita means life!

Modding the PS Vita was actually super easy, and I can easily return back to unmodified Vita. I guess now is an excellent time to re-mod my Vita but this time I will make it permanently. Unlike Sony, fans are dedicated enough to appreciate what the Vita is capable of. The official support may be gone, however the system is still true to its name as it still has Life in it.

How do you unmodified it. Sometimes my modded vita won't download games, adrenaline adrenaline needs to be double pressed to open and sometimes the screen will stay black. It's very aggravating and sometimes I wish I would have left my vita alone.

so yeah i LOVE my vita and it is my fav handheld device of all time, i have been experimenting with making it run 60 fps......its very hard. a lot of the games for the vita only run at 30 fps and i play a lot of fighting games which is prefered at 60 fps. i know overclocking is a thing but i burned out one battery already, and i would have to find an emulated game that i already own for the vita that was made to run at 60 fps....because games like GG+R was tailored to run at 30 and 2d fighting games cant just add frames like that -_- but other than that i have no other problems. its like a mini steamdeck and i love it lol

Ah i think my comment maybe did not go through. Just wanted to let you know that you do not need a proprietary memory card to mod the version 1 PS Vita anymore. IMCUnlock will allow you to gain access to system memory on the console and up to 1gb of memory can be partitioned for use like a memory card. IMCUnlock can be installed on an unmodified Vita. if you add retro arch to a modded ps vita it plays wario ware twisted really well! Which is a struggle for other emulators because they don't have tilt control, so you wouldn't be able to play it as intended. Even better the orginal GBA didn't have a back light and the SP version isn't very close to the design of the orginal GBA. Vita is much closer and obviously has back lights, you could argue its the best way to play the game!

The vita is great, has been my main portable for years and even when phones were better, I used it. But once the Steam deck was released, the Vita sadly became obsolete. With a Deck you can do everything the Vita does and more, and beside being bigger, you get basically the best of both worlds for emulation and regular gaming. If you don't plan to get a Deck, then the Vita is the next best thing for sure of course; but still it is held back by its specs for emulating everything (even arcade games with mame struggle on the Vita); so there are compromises sadly.

i really feel like the notion that was going around that "the vita is dead on arrival" became a self fulfilling prophecy so thats all people heard.. they assumed it was dead so why buy it.. and of course it died. though i will admit the opinions i saw at the time were split.. half said phone games will kill it and it has no market and half thought it was EXACTLY what they wanted the original psp to be. everyone agreed that hardware wise it was impressive. sony should of kept with it longer than they did as the hardware was there.. but they treated it like the dreamcast (my fav console) had a handful of great games and then threw in the towel.. which for sega that was the right move as they just weren't competitive with the ps2 and didn't have the cash on hand like MS.

I love the Vita I just wish it was the tiniest bit more powerful, mostly for ps2 games, even when overclocked or even with the coreunlocker some games still struggle to hit 30fps, even if at a lower than native resolution, jak and daxter probably being the worst offender. The fault is more on the devs ports than it is an actual issue with hardware but still, if the Vita could get an average like 3 fps improvement that alone would be a game changer

Don't think it can output to full hd. Plus, the hardware isn't powerful enough to play at a native 1080p. This vita hack via web browser should work for the PS TV but I don't have one to test with.

I modded mine the hard way a few years ago! Used it loads for 3 months then the jailbreak messed up and I had to reset the vita :( maybe it’s time to give it another go

Personally, I'd like to see an OLED mod for the 2000, I don't like the OLED display on the 1000, it looks overly saturated for my liking.I wonder if it's possible to install a modern OLED phone display on the Vita.
