THE UPSTAIRS HOUSE - Wahana Architects

Location : Jakarta, Indonesia
This tropical modern abode stands on 560 m2 corner plot in a townhouse complex in south Jakarta. It is the wish of the owner to have a house that has strong interaction with the natural surrounding environment and natural landscapes although it has no interesting views on its surroundings. They hope that the house will be a place where their close friends and families would come and gather on the weekend.
While many regularly houses place the private areas on a higher level, we took a different approach by consciously putting the private areas such as bedroom areas on the lower level so they can access to their bedrooms directly after a long tiring day.
Wahana Architects is an architectural consulting firm providing services in the fields of architectural design based in Jakarta. Led by the experience, Rudy Kelana. As an Architect we love challenges to create space which have strong relationship with nature to make unique experience for client.

I love the design sense of the house but I get no sense of the layout and flow from this video. It’s mostly single perspective shots or pans. Maybe some moving shots or an arial so we can see how all the spaces connect?

You are right. I believe there were 2 security with 2 shift work whom guarded this house in the entrance gate. During worktime the maids stayed at this house. So the maids ruled these kind of house 😃. Btw this is exelent work from the architects.

There's NO such thing as 'upstairs house'........if the house has two levels, then it is a 'two-storey' house...... Single-storey......four-storey...etc. Upstairs means the floor above!!
