Let’s get some facts CORRECTED…I very good friend of mine works for the archdiocese and I have been to the attic of that convent. Whoever your “friend” is she doesn’t know New Orleans at all if she says the westbank is New Orleans East. Those two areas are not even close to one another and certainly not the same. She also doesn’t provide correct facts to the actual story. Facts: 1. New Orleans East is on the east Bank of the Mississippi River. 2. It’s the last area that is considered New Orleans on the way to Slidell along I-10. In New Orleans the Westbank doesn’t even touch I-10 like at all, and again, it is no where near the Westbank like 30+ mins away at minimum. 3. The only part of the Westbank that is New Orleans is Algiers. That’s it. It’s a very small part of the Westbank. So not sure why the Westbank was even referenced because it has zero to do with this story. 4. Back in the 1700s when the Casket Girls came to New Orleans not all came voluntarily. When they realized the men want virtuous women the Crown started exploiting orphan. 5. The word in French for small box is the equivalent to casket. The girls were given money as dowries from the Crown and the dowries were kept in a small box/casket for each girl. None of them toted a casket along with them. Everything I corrected above is documented. Top 5 pet peeves….when youtubers and tour guides tell incorrect tales about New Orleans because they’re either just about viewers or they aren’t very good at proper research. I don’t know who your friend is….but you shouldn’t take her stories as if they are word. Clearly she needs a New Orleans history coarse and she needs to learn the geography of this area. She should also know that we take New Orleans history very seriously and get annoyed when our stories are not relayed properly.

NOLA is a city filled with mysterious streets, houses, and alleys! Things go on down in the FQ in several back alley private bars!

I saw a vampire down in the quarters back in 94. We had just been on one of the ghost tours and was heading back to were our car was parked. Went back by the convent and one of the windows was wide open.

7:36 6:21 He said the French Quarter is BELOW sea level, but historically, it was known to be the HIGHEST part of that swamp infested region, in fact, the French Quarter was mostly unaffected by flooding during hurricane Katrina because of it, it's nearly THE REST of the city which is at or below sea level as it were! ⚜️

You are 100% right that the highest part of the Quarter is above sea level, and other areas like the Garden District are lower. Even so, a good part of the Quarter is below, but good point and thank you.

This reminds me of the Filles du Roi in Quebec. The young ladies who came, though unprepared for the tough lives in the colonies adapted well, and thanks to the gifts from the King, and better food resources and environment, lived much longer lives, bearing more children who lived, than their counterparts (the girls were largely urban poor orphans) who stayed in France. That was suspicious in and of itself! There is quite a bit of vampire lore in Quebec too. Of course, the loup garou and wendigo also start to blend in. Really interesting story, a great video. Are vampires real? Well, I’m an anthropologist. All stories start with events, interpretation varies. Many people explain every story with diseases, but it wasn’t as though our ancestors didn’t know what those illnesses were, and plenty of tales take the time to differentiate, after all, they weren’t stupid, science is always a temporary answer as things evolve. There’s a line in The Relic, ‘Anthropologists are allowed to believe in myth, it’s part of their charm.’ Slightly off topic, I’m at page 67 of Blood Feud, fantastic book!

Thank you so much!!! I actually wonder if vampires might be real.

I believe in real vampires. Behind every legend and every tale, there's a basis in reality to it.
