Hey man I'm 23 and considering enlisting in the USCG, trying for Aircraft maintenance, fixed wing. I want a family one day. I understand that with any military branch there will be times we will be separated. But, I'm curious, in your experience has the CG kept you and your family together most of the time?
@crey5561 Жыл бұрын
@@matthewjameson8809 It depends on your rate. Most fixed wing billets I would imagine your family will PCS with you. If you’re rotor, let’s say attached to HITRON. There will be afloat deployments attached to a cutter, in which case you’re family won’t be with you. I was not married nor did I have kids when I enlisted. In my 10 years I only spent 1 year away from my gf/fiancé/wife. But, the CG had no obligation to co-locate us while we were dating/engaged. Some units may require a geo-bachelor situation, PATFORSWA comes to mind. When it comes to income, it all depends on the cost of living where you are and if you’re entitled BAH. As an E5, I made $72,000+ per year, post tax. And that’s after TSP contributions. I also had SDP for being a Tactical and Pursuit Coxswain, and I also received per-diem on deployments.

A lot of this is inaccurate. Just to start, the highest ranking enlisted member is “Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard” which is a master chief with special pay. @Ubions10 ай бұрын
@@kimbertactpro9expect this is still inaccurate even in that context. The frequency of promotion is heavily dependent on specific rating; therefore there is no reason to mention anything above a first class without specifying timeframes and other factors that influence promotion.
