The most puzzling thing for me is that people have major misconceptions about the economy and life that they cannot figure out, realise, change or get rid of. One, GDP is the worst metric to measure an economy by far. Three things that are very good for GDP growth is war, high crime rate and natural disasters. If that is the case, you might want to measure something else. Second, rising company and corporate profits are good. Every dollar in corporate profit is a dollar that didn't end up in your paycheck. Weird, right.

Hi Wes - You talk about loss of relevance of conventional politics. Please let me know what you think of Coupar Angus Democracy (you'll need to do a web search because KZbin does not allow website addresses in comments). The basic idea is to build a system of democracy based on caring communities.

What I extremely am distressed by governments trying to solves problems or articulating proposed solutions with out taking a systems approach and explain the systems approach to the voters. And keeping a lot of transparency. A public jury system could "evaluate" the options proposed. But without having the big picture in mind and articulating it in terms of values leaves us bereft. I would love to here more about Seattle and your perspectives,

Seems kind of Hegelian 1. The system functions, has certain values 2. Contradictions become apparent 3. System develops to cover contradictions, new values established 4. Repeat Just replace "system" with "geist" and add in a bunch of random German words and you have yourself a shortened copy of Phenomenology of Spirit

You saved me a lot of time and I’m now working on my 14th video essay on Hegel. Patronage starts at $2.99 tier. 😉

@@JHimminy There are two types of discussions about Hegel on the internet: "Dialectics is when something happens, and then something else happens, and then a third thing happens (also Hegel was a Marxist)" or "Watch my 74 part series of 2 hour long videos analyzing the Phenomenology. It's still a work in progress, we just started the second chapter"

Rome was in big financial problem ,so US is not an empire but act like one I can't compare the debt of USA vs Rome but the similarities strike me by bully and rip off other society and the same will happen when friends turn to foes when everyone is afraid to be the next

Roman Republic, imperialist, but not Empire. Not yet. Lawfare caused the downfall of the Republic, the judicial persecution of Caesar impelling his crossing the Rubicon with military imperium intact

You say things can’t improve because even if someone good gets in power, inflation and medical expenses inevitably creep every four years, but that assumes corruption isn’t properly allayed, and it would be allayed if a person committed to reforms gets to power. What you’re basically saying is that nothing can improve ever so don’t do anything don’t be productive and just be a huge weight on society, which is just ridiculous.

All the richest oligarchs started to orbit the American empire after ww1, sort of the same way all the richest oligarchs(families that represented the fasces) orbited the kings of Western European nations in the 7-800s ad. I shouldn’t have to add that the country was founded by oligarchs that owned farms the same size and shape as the virginias.

@@lessimcdowell9897 what? Americans are up themselves, delusional or just plain ignorant if they think they are an empire, last I checked they were a constitutional federal republic.
