Fantasy Springs at Tokyo DisneySea is currently taking the world by storm with its incredible theming, breathtaking attractions and unbelievable usage of technology. But if you’re waiting for these attractions to arrive in a Disney park closer to home then I wouldn’t hold your breath. Chances are that Fantasy Springs isn’t going anywhere else any time soon and here’s why.

It’s a shame people were clamoring for ‘more Disney’ because Disneysea ‘wasn’t Disney enough.’ Yeah…I’d rather have Disneysea as it was than the newer Disney IP attractions being put in everywhere. I miss the Big Thumders, the Haunted Mansions, the Spaceship Earths, the Expedition Everests. Not everything NEEDS (or should) be IP based. Really boxes in the creativity of IMAGINEERS.

I get what you’re saying and I think TDS was sort of like Epcot, the theming and quality of Disney attractions without the IP, but my understanding of the Japanese audience is that they are actually very character driven. They love character meet and greets, not to mention merch and food that are all themed to characters. It kind of goes to what was said in the video about culture and meeting the needs of the park going public of that country. They obviously liked the park and the quality, but they ultimately want that Disney IP connection.

I disagree. EU looks great, but it seems to be going for a completely different vibe from Disneysea. When I went to TDS, it had a very adult and mature feel to it that was unlike any other theme park. EU looks to be an updated version of the Islands of Adventure playbook, except a bit more kid oriented. In my opinion, Animal Kingdom is the closest we’ve got to a park like Disneysea in the US due to its more mature vibe and and strong thematic elements.

I absolutely do not want the parks to be copy/pasted. I wholeheartedly agree with you that the parks should have their own identities and unique experiences exclusive to that park. There is an argument to be made about the price of travel and Disney tickets, and that a lot of people may never be able to see and experience all the different resorts. So making the parks more homogenized is the only way for more people to experience the different areas. But, to my thinking, it’s a question of quality. Fantasy Springs is phenomenally well themed and beautiful and we’re jealous of it because that level of theming and experience is not something we really see all that much in the state side Disney parks. Star Wars and Pandora seem to be the closest we have right now, but I think instead of copy/pasting attractions, the parks should focus more on bringing that kind of quality to all the parks and attractions. It would be a slow and expensive prospect but refurbs should be used to bring the quality of the older attractions to a level closer to this, and new expansions should be at this kind of level.

It's amazing how Fantasy Springs despite having IPs in Disneysea that's traditionally not too IP heavy still feels something otherworldly and not Disney in the best sense. Like you're really in a world of fantasy and not something that's obviously corporate based. If I do get to visit Tokyo Disneyland and Disneysea in my lifetime Fantasy Springs will without a doubt among my first stops. As for us getting Fantasy Springs in the states we're technically already getting that along with DisneySea as a whole it's just not from both DisneyLand and DisneyWorld but rather in the form of Epic Universe from Universal Orlando Resorts which is more and more looking to be DisneySea's true equal in terms of immersion, theming, and technological advancements. The fact that like the OLC over in Japan the Universal Engineers are sparing no expense to really push the envelope to that level. I know people will bring up both Pandora and Galaxy's Edge being Fantasy Springs equals but even then Epic Universe is doing a lot more to take the steps needed to be at DisneySea's level in general not just Fantasy Springs.

I agree if anything from Fantasy Spring were to come over to the US, it would be the Tangled Ride. Though I would think they would expand on it/change it enough that it would be considered its own thing. In my opinion if Anaheim gets a Frozen Land, 99% chance it will be a copy of Hong Kong's Frozen Ever After. I don't think a lot of people realize how much money the things in Tokyo cost and the reason why they get all of the good things is because Disney isn't footing the bill, so thanks for pointing that out!

While I don't like the idea of copy and pasting attractions so that each resort has it's own character and identity, it's just sad that the states doesn't receive THIS LEVEL of theming to projects. There are uniquely designed and created elements EVERYWHERE creating total immersion. Pandora in WDW does achieve this standard for sure and the Treehouse in Disneyland does as well. I have a good feeling about Tiana's Bayou Adventure as well. But there are so many shuttered areas in WDW that I wish they'd do a LITTLE of this immersion in those areas ( I'm looking at you, Animation Courtyard) Imagine a Monstropolis in that area!

Having exclusivity rights for rides and lands is great for travel and discover different versions of the same ride. It's also great for business to drive more overseas/regional tourists to come to the theme parks. I have been to all Disney resorts (except Shanghai), and some if not all are unique from each other. One thing I would've love to see is one of the Galaxy's Edges be different from one another, with an emphasis on a different terrain and different ride experiences. If an Avatar experience in Anaheim is going to focus on the sequel to stand apart from Pandora in Orlando, then it's a win-win for unique experiences.

Totally agree with you about the two Galaxys edge lands needing variation in theme. Star Wars is such a wide open IP when it comes to theming. A Star Wars land could literally be in any 'biome'. The theming makes sense for Disneyland because it's neighbors with Frontierland, so it has a similar American southwest/forest environment. However Galaxy's Edge in Orlando really could've been themed to a slightly different locale/biome. Same attractions and layout, but just different trees/rockwork/decor etc. Like a more jungly, Adventureland-esque Star Wars land would be incredible. Or something akin to Endor. I've even thought, not necessarily that I want this to happen, but if OLC ever wanted to put a Star wars land in Disneysea, they could turn it into some kind of water planet version of Galaxys Edge, like a Navoo kind of planet. There's so much opportunity for Star Wars in Disney parks. It's a shame they would just copy and paste :/

Bottom line is Disney doesn’t want to pay for better park experiences/a new park in the US. That was the best point of the video. The “would you rather” options presented in the video are A. Be a Disney company apologist like the author of this video and change nothing, or B. Copy and paste fantasy springs (or other Disney Tokyo attractions) into current existing US Disney parks, which now that we’ve all watched this video have been informed is impossible. And while I dont think it will be the IP's u suggested i could see them going for newer IP's (as a beauty and the beast "land" already exists in Tokyo as well) With more modern IP's probably getting a hold over older stuff. (especially for california) Think things like Moana, Encanto, or tangeled. (if they go with the three minature lands idea like fantasy) i would say the list is probably Frozen, Encanto/Moana/tangeled, and Lion King/Aladdin/Cinderella. (as the older IP) (or any other hits that come out from now to then) With their recen budget increase into the parks I do hold a little bit of hope that the lands wont be as poorly themed as avengers but I believe ur right to lower expectations compared to Fantasy Springs and the magic that it brings.. Although from the looks of it we'll be getting Pandora (way of water) first before anything which requires the east lot to be expanded so I guess our version of Pandora will sorta show us the level of detail they are willing to put into california. Tangled/BaTB: A classic fairytale were the two leads fall in love. Frozen/TLK: huge box office successes that marked the company for well over a decade. The thing that Disney needs to do is have the ride systems that have been developed to be implemented across the parks BUT have an IP or story that fits with the ride system. Anyone from the American parks that are bitching about how other parks have the “nice stuff” I have examples of our exclusive ride systems. 1. Flight of Passage - no other ride has had that ride system and that ride was developed in 2011-2013 and opened in 2016. Yes, you could argue that it’s a Soarin’ 2.0 ride system but we haven’t seen a leaked proposal for a “clone” of it. An IP that could be amazing for it would be an Avengers E-ticket since you’re in a “motorcycle” stance and could be a Stark or Shield-style vehicle. 2. Smugglers Run - yes it can be called a new-age Star Tours but no other park has a ride with the turntable ride system. There is of course a reason why this system hasn’t been implemented in another park, that is our “unique” system. 3. Guardians Cosmic Rewind - until we see what Tokyo’s new Space Mountain is, this could be exclusive to America. There will always be cynics from within the American parks who wonder why the international parks get special treatment, especially over the last decade. But, always remember that we are in a unique situation where we have six Disney Parks in our country. The parks will eventually see these ride systems. It is unfortunate that they are not done at the same caliber as the international parks.

For your price tag i do want to correct it in a small way. The baseline tag is 1.9 billion dollars for the whole thing your correct. but many reports state thats the lowball amount that disney will be spending. I believe they will be spending a little bit more on the individual lands inside the expansion as the budget only covered 10 years of whats supposed to be a 30 year project. with many of the quotes saying "at least 1.9 billion." which gives me hope that Disney will spend a little more on the project. Nothing as grand as FS but a smaller exclusive version of it I could definitely see coming to the parks. Despite being the original and only park that Walt Disney was able to experience, the Disneyland resort often seems like the poor step-child getting hand-me-downs. One of the few exceptions being Carsland. I would like to see some really amazing versions of attractions go in here. An even better Frozen ride. Unique new things exclusive to Disneyland that are state of the art and mind blowing. That is what I’d like. Tired of the inferior versions.

Same here it really seems like after 2011 wdw became Disney corporate’s favorite park. They keep getting amazing things almost every time, meanwhile here at the California parks all we have gotten in the recent years is cheap lame awful re themes like Pixar pier and San fransokoyo. And awful lands/ride like avengers campus and web slingers. Even galaxy’s edge is 80% gift shops, although the wdw one even got that fancy hotel while we didn’t. Also we haven’t even gotten out e ticket for avengers campus that Disney has been promising us. It’s been 4+ years and they still haven’t started construction on it yet wdw got an avengers e ticket with cosmic rewind (while all we have is the awful web slingers.). Even last years d23 95% of the announcements were huge things for wdw while all they announced for Disneyland was showing us a picture of the ride vehicle for the avengers multiverse ride. Hopefully things change and that d23 has at least a few decent announcements for us at Disneyland but I doubt it. As usual wdw will get all the good stuff and all we will get here at Disneyland is clones of rides/lands already at other parks and cheap re themes.

Just out of curiosity, what versions of attractions do you find inferior at DLR?
@gregg5958
@gregg5958 Ай бұрын
@@kotch35 Winnie the Pooh for one. And obviously newer versions of classics have been built around the world which make Disneyland seem more dated in comparison. That is however perhaps some of its charm. Still…when you look at the dark rides being built elsewhere like Beauty and the Beast, Pooh in Japan, the new Frozen ride, Pirates in Shanghai, and Mystic Manor….Disneyland just pales in comparison outside of Mickey’s Runway Railway, Rise of the Resistance, and Radiator Springs Racers. The last one of which is the only unique one exclusive to Disneyland (and even that might not hold for long). I’m hoping Disneyland Forward changes that. It would be nice to get something that isn’t a clone of somewhere else, or worse an inferior version and actually have something unique and state of the art. I’d like to see that vanishing projection thing they do on multiple rides in Asia come to a Disneyland ride a la The Beast, or the pirate/skeleton effect, or now the Frozen brought to life effect of Elsa. Why can’t Disneyland have that effect somewhere? It looks fantastic and such an effect is missing from the entire resort.

I will bring back old attractions like they never left and if anything new were to be built, it won't have an IP attachment.

I don’t believe the narrative “people wanted more Disney stuff in Tokyo Disney Sea” visiting the parks in Japan is such a unique experience. The guests don’t run around in Spirit Jersies like they do in the US they don’t even sell a Tokyo Disney spirit jersey. To me it was an opportunity to add something unique and creative FAR MORE CREATIVE THAN WE WILL EVER SEE IN THE US. THE OLC gets it. They are re-doing space mountain and they create unique expensive attractions that the US “CHEAP” parks won’t. Save your money and visit the international parks. Such a great time.

I feel like California (with Disney Forward.) should get something like fantasy springs, although I agree that it shouldn't be Fantasy Springs itself. The idea of smaller lands being in a bigger overreaching land, that I believe things like forward and the possible 5th - 6th gates in orlando will get. (im mostly focusing on cali though since its my home park) As someone who just went to tokyo disney right before these lands opened. I can safely say that we probably wont be getting things like Beauty and the Beast, Tangled, or Peter pan in our park. But i do believe that we will be getting a princess expansion of some kind/original disney production projects. Especially with Pandora coming to Disneyland/califorrnia adventure as the way of water iteration. Something i noticed about both disney fantasy springs as well as beauty and the beast is that they were complete retellings of the movies. and while disneyland does have retellings through peterpan, snowhite,etc I dont think thats the way disneyland functions (especially with Tiana's bayou adventure coming out soon.) I believe that Californias will choose projects that can have stories past the original movies. With the only 2 IP's we are pretty sure sure are coming being Pandora (way of water) and Frozen (as its becoming a staple at all the parks.) Although similar to Fantasy springs I want to believe that they will be adding two more miniatures in (Besides Frozen) but its my belief the other two will be Moana/Encanto (as the more modern project similar to tangled. Due to the sheer popularity of Moana/Encanto especially here in the states.(theres also a bit of bias on my part for Moana, and my brain fantasizing about it because of the way of water expansion.)) and one of the older IP's like Lion King or Aladdin. (my personal preference would be lion king as a lot of the retellings of aladdin in the other parks aren't the greatest although with how common it is in other parks it might be more likely.) Although this expansion i doubt will get the budget of Fantasy springs I could very easily see disney doing minatures lands in an overarching land. Especially with how condensed Disney Forward seems to be, with the limit of 14 rides in the papers themselves and 5 of which being thrill (something that the parks been lacking) it makes practical sense to me to make minature areas for different IP's from Disneys personal library while still allowing them to be immersive in an overarching theme. In summary. I dont think we will be getting a Disney Fantasy Springs in the U.S parks but I can easily see us getting something similar with different IP's and a different overarching theme that still has the appeal of Fantasy springs, either being more original IP based or just more thrill themed based

Speaking to the last question in the video, for the most part I'd rather have a ride that's from another Disney park that I know is a 10/10 instead of a ride that's exclusive to my local park but is a 7/10. It's much cheaper for Disney to just copy/paste rides that are already at other parks because they don't have to spend a bunch of money for R&D and they can just slap the new ride down at the new space. I'd rather them spend $100M for a ride that cost Tokyo $150M then get a ride that costs $100M all-in.

It would be so perfect in Fantasyland next to the Matterhorn and they could save DisneylandForward space for more valuable attractions other than Frozen Ever After! They may even have enough room for a restaurant in addition to create a mini Frozen area. I still prefer the Fantasyland attractions to Frozen Ever After just judging from videos alone.

I am 100% in the camp that each park should be for the most part unique in offerings. I can understand a couple of the "greatest hits" rides/lands but the unique nature of the parks is the draw to go visit. I realize not everyone can do that but I think overall it's better for the health of the parks and the industry in general. I do think going forward in the US parks with new projects we are going to see a step up in quality. I think we are already seeing that in Tiana's Bayou Adventure. I think it's safe to say that after Chapek left, that the budget to plus up that ride happened. It might not be the perfect version but it will be better. I am very excited to see what will happen with Disneyland Forward, and I do think we are all going to be surprised with how good it is. Disney is not going to let it's overseas parks outshine the home parks, and as it stands that is how it is right now.

You bring up lots of good points here. However, why do you argue that Disney would have to shut down or convert their existing Peter Pan and Frozen themed rides before adding the new ones from Disney Springs? They already have multiple rides based on a single IP in one park. Case in point: Disney didn't shut down Star Tours to introduce two new Star Wars IP themed rides in Galaxy's Edge. They also have two Toy Story themed rides in adjacent parks, with Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin and Toy Story Midway Mania at Disneyland and California Adventure respectively.

Hmmm... With regards to Disneyland Forward: TWDC technically, they could build a version of the Tangled boat ride (change things up a bit narratively by introducing and featuring Mother Gothel and the two hitchmen in the ride.) Similarly, they could build a version of the Beauty and the Beast dark ride with introducing Gaston. From both video ride throughs I've seen on KZbin, neither one featured the villain and at least constructively in Fantasy Springs, that made sense in that it's narrative and extended lore of Fantasy Springs. (Though, not so much as Beauty and the Beast, but that probably has more to deal with budget and spacing there.) But it's entirely up to TWDC if they want to build a variation of those two rides while also keeping them different enough from Tokyo Disney Resort's versions. I honestly wouldn't expect the Tokyo DisneySea version of the Frozen boat ride coming to the Disneyland because of the all of those mini-background AAs and contract agreements with OLC (and because TWDC have other money-making areas.) Culturally, I disagree with you on Galaxy's Edge. Yes, guests wanted Disney to do an immerse experience with Star Wars like visiting a familiar place and doing an up charged activity (like Hogsmeade in most of the Universal Studios parks and Islands of Adventure Park.) BUT... instead actually taking them to a familiar place, like, oh, IDK, Tatooine, Hoth, etc in each park (which would have been miles better btw), Galaxy's Edge instead became an original land set after the sequel trilogy and... no, I don't agree with you on that. Like, if I was gonna visit Disneyland's Galaxy's Edge, it should be someplace familiar to a guest like Tatooine, Naboo, etc. And at WDW, some other planet in the extended Star Wars universe. That would've driven attendance and made both resorts unique enough so families could visit them both in different times. Culturally, what some locals (myself included here in California) were wanting with Disney doing Marvel and Star Wars in the Disneyland Resort was a third gate of some kind, like just place both in a third gate with Avatar and call it Disney Adventure World (like that recently renamed WDS in Disneyland Resort Paris.) I personally thought it was dumb to be placing Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland especially when it featured Star Tours, but when the new land opened, it was different enough and the new land was designed for Disneyland (not so much in WDW. JUST, WDI! PLEASE THINK OF FLORIDAN WEATHER SOMETIME WHEN BUILDING NEW THINGS in WDW!!! Wide open spaces in Toy Story Land with no shade is not fun!) Culturally, I understand Disney didn't want to be creatively blocked in with building any one specific planet when designing Galaxy's Edge land (and also for budgetary reasons too.) BUT, Disney building both Galaxy's Edges was due in part as a response to Universal's Harry Potter lands (oh look, both feature an up charged activity.) Same with the Fantasyland Forest and Dumbo's Circus in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom. In the case of version one of the Fantasyland Forest, that was mainly originally designed with girls, food and meet'n'greets in mind (with duplicate little mermaid dark ride from DCA, expanded dumbo and a Tinker Bell ride as the new rides.) Culturally though, too many guests complained there wasn't enough rides for boys, so Seven Dwarf's Mine Ride was built and two meet'n'greets spaces got axed along with Tinker Bell's ride and her meet'n'greet. Guess what got built in Fantasy Springs? That cancelled Tinker Bell ride (which honestly has a purpose at Fantasy Springs and looks great! Definitely aesthetic wise reminds me the old Helmich Chew Chew Train which should've been placed in Pixar Pier, but I digress.) Anywho, my point is culturally, lots of people wanted to walk in any one of the Star War's planets and instead, we got this original planet which was designed for Disneyland in mind (and woefully placed next to Toy Story Land in DHS with no lifesize Kenner branded boxes that say "Galaxy's Edge playset.") Like, I think what guests wanted versus what they got isn't close in Galaxy's Edge and that's why some parts of Fantasy Springs like a version of the Tangled boat ride, should come to the United States (especially in the Disneyland Forward.) For WDW: maybe, but only if they double decker Magic Kingdom's inner Fantasyland courtyard for dark ride because it's not using forced perspective and therefore, they can get away with it!!!! Sorry, end rant.

I'm not sure about Tangled. They might consider it "too old" despite all the fans and that children still really enjoy Tangled. Disney is convinced the keys to merchandising money is Frozen, Moana, and Encanto and then they throw in Beauty and the Beast at the end. Gets a little irritating but that's how Disney functions right now. In Asia, Tangled merchandise sells incredibly well so it's just natural to pick it. Rapunzel is the next favorite princess next to Belle. But Rapunzel isn't nearly as popular as Ariel for us stateside. So it remains to be seen what they'll pick. The answer is going to be what they believe will make them the most in merchandise when you walk into the giftshop, even if it over saturates things and will be a problem later.

West Coast couldve got the Disney era of Star wars and East coast would have the original and prequel era. Ride track would be the same but the ride would be different. Like Dinosaur and Indy. Keeping the exclusivity of each of the 12 theme parks is crucial for attracting visitors to enjoy unique experiences, and copying and pasting popular attractions doesn’t help with that. Disneyland in Anaheim and Walt Disney World have their own expansion plans. Galaxy’s Edge could only be found in the US parks, but people in Paris and in Asia aren’t asking for it. Those who want to experience Fantasy Springs and other attractions like Mystic Manor, should buy an airplane ticket, fly to Tokyo or Hong Kong, and have an experience for themselves, rather than yearning for Fantasy Springs to be built right next to your house. Why would international parks exist, is that it’s not just to provide Disney magic for the locals, but also giving them their own identity in where they could thrive with their uniqueness and exclusivity. That’s what makes each and one of them unique.

I've noticed something else about a lot about many other theme park vloggers and even the Disney executives. Whenever a new land or attraction opens up at one park, many of them tend to push for a replication at other parks. It seems as if many of them want the parks to be homogenized. Why do they do this? Why can't they allow each Disney park to have some similar attractions and lands, and at the same time, allow others to be unique to each particular park? Is that too much to ask for? I say . . . allow Fantasy Springs be unique to Tokyo DisneySea.

My big question for the future going forward is, could the overwhelming success of this expansion and the pettiness of Walt Disney management jeopardize their relationship with OLC. OLC has basically put the other Disney resorts to shame. Fantasy Springs exposes the corner cutting and penny pinching of the US parks, especially with the comparison of their Frozen attractions. But Disney does NOT like being made a fool of. Disney has had a lot of hopes with their fantasy area of Disney Adventure World, and after seeing the attractions in Fantasy Springs, I can’t imagine anyone will have the same level of enthusiasm. It sort of depends on your faith in the individuals currently in charge at Disney. There are three outcomes here. 1. Disney learns nothing from this, as usual. 2. This becomes a wake up call to Disney to put quality and guest experience first before cost cutting and upcharge experiences. 3. Disney takes the low road, and acts in a way that strains their relationship with OLC. Such as trying to raise the licensing fees, or trying to put more pressure on them to instigate changes to the Tokyo park. I’m just worried is all. If Disney management’s pride is as fragile as I fear it is, then we should be concerned going forward.

It does kind of make me sad when I hear that people think "more Disney" means "more IPs/characters"; even as a little kid, "Disney" to me meant more of an approach to, well, basically anything. Just imagine something interesting (the future, dinosaurs, movie making, pirates, ghosts, etc.), and "Disney-fying" it meant approaching it with a particular creative, entertaining, sometimes informative style and presentation; even little kid me found Fantasyland to be the least interesting part of WDW since, well, I could just see most of those characters on tapes my family owned, right? That said, if Disney's going to add IPs, this feels like the way to do it: have a dedicated area for it, ala Fantasyland, but put real money and effort behind it to make it feel special, rather than shoehorning characters into every corner of parks that were never designed with them in mind. Of course, it's only working out this way because OLC is footing so much of the bill; over her stateside, I know the only things we can expect from Disney is more "IP-Land" additions at this point.

How times have changed. Now a “measly“ 30 m dollar version for inferior Winnie ride at Disneyland. In 1955, 7m to build entire Anaheim park.

Disneyland was actually constructed for around $17 million and adjusted for inflation would be over $163 million, so not a great comparison.
