I absolutely cannot believe the Odyssey has possibly made it into Canon. A fan design. The backbone of Starfleet in STO has gone all the way to the top. And she’s beautiful too.

technically speaking, the fact that its on the comics already adds it to the alpha canon, all we need to secure it now is a movie or series. and i'm pretty sure everyone agrees that the Enterprise-F deserves to be an Odyssey Class, hopefully Admiral Picard gets his command of the USS Verity < Odyssey Class NCC97000 (experimental phase) NCC97005 (Starfleet commisioned) > reinstated as well.

My only issue with the Odyssey class is the pylons. They appear too thin and backswept for a ship its size, plus I never liked curved pylons (from front view. Curved in profile is fine, but in forward view the curve just looks odd). However, utilizing the Sojourner pylons and nacelles, I made what I feel is a far better-looking design (for my own personal tastes). While the Odyssey hull is perfectly fine, I also like the Sojourner hull better. Not the saucer though, standard Odyssey saucer all the way :3

I got my Oddysey class for free while playing STO back in the day. I always thought STO really handled post Nemesis timeline really well. Any addition of it to the canon universe would be greatly appreciated.

Exactly. Surely STO has too much focus on war and battles instead of exploration, but the way the whole Iconian War was used as a way to bring the galaxy together and have the Federation, Klingon Empire and Romulan Republic become the founding members of an ever more closely knit galactic community was a joy to experience. It is really unfortunate that so far Kurtzman only focuses on painting the setting of the Picard show as grim and hopeless when it comes to politics.

Yup. The only canon is the Trek films and TV shows. Licensed material, like STO, is not canon.

@Lady Wanderer So... TOS isn't canon then? As Roddenberry was working on TNG, he said openly that he had no desire to treat TOS as canon, also stating TAS was non-canon as well. So essentially, TNG is the only canon by that regard

If TNG is the only series that is considered canon, what the heck are people getting so upset over with Enterprise, Discovery, the Kelvin Timeline and perhaps Voyager, TAS and DS9? And why would Gene Roddenberry not consider TOS as canon since he created it? (Okay, it was his baby so he can call it whatever he wanted.) It sounds like the entire ST family of series are a hodgepodge of timelines which are related strictly by the title "Star Trek." And then there are the TOS cast movies, the TOS to TNG "Generations" movie, and the TNG cast movies.. Plus Short Treks, Picard, and whatever else is down the road. Help?

@@eddeckert278 Well the problem he had with TOS was, he acknowledged he and the other writers were limited by not only the bounds of television in the 60's, but our limited perception of spaceflight and science at the time. Keep in mind, by the time TOS had aired its final episode, we still hadn't made the first steps on the moon with Apollo 11. When Star Trek was first being written, not only did we have yet to launch a 2-man spacecraft, but we hadn't even discovered whether or not orbital rendezvous was even possible, much less spacewalks, orbital maneuvering, docking, everything the Gemini program did, as all we had were the 1-man Mercury capsules that couldn't even "fly", just turn around a bit and come back down. Society also changed as well as our perception of science. Television was more forgiving of the things he wanted to do,.... and there were some things in TOS that deserve to be forgotten, like "Women cannot be captain of a starship"

THE_KRAKEN In Star Trek Online, it’s the warp-capable ancillary escort/destroyer craft that has nacelles that fold in/out as it docks/undocks from the aft hull of the Odyssey. The idea is that 50 or so of the crew can board it to provide aid in addition to whatever other shuttles might be onboard.

Excelsior was ahead of its time when commissioned was supposed to take over the enterprise a as flagship still probably holds it's own in this timeline for basic missions

@@DonTiberius35 so was the Miranda class for that matter, the hull registry of the Reliant suggests it and its class are newer than the Enterprise by at least a generation, they were likely sporting the refit look right out of the gate before the Constitution class got their refits. They are rarely shown in their full glory but they seriously out gun the Connies and are likely why that class was retired, even after being refit they couldn't quite match the ship that was supposed to slot under them in the fleet. They probably gave up something to the Enterprise in some aspect, that seems to be the default position of the monohull federation ships.

Hi Adam, you sound like the one guy from Extra Credits, and I love it I also love that ship design. It has a lot of the things I like about the Sovereign class, but it's unique. The dual necks between the saucer and engineering sections is done so well, and I love all her curves.

Thanks! The Oddy grew on me quickly as well. I wasnt sure about her at first. Im a huge fan of the Prometheus amd Defiant classes and i'd been used to these nippy little escorts. The Oddy took some getting used to, ungainly huge turn rate she has. But she stole my heart. Gorgeous design, i agree.

On star trek Nemesis Captain Kirk's dying words to Picard was "Don't ever give up the Enterprise, if they try to give a new ship, turn it down and accept nothing less but the Enterprise" Admiral Picard commanding a different ship is turning his back on Kirk's advice. Yes it can, at least in design. There is an arrowhead-like structure that the twin-necks attach to that comes out from underneath the main saucer. The necks don't just stand out on their own.

You can do that ingame. There are a /lot/ of customization options. 4 variants each of primary hull (saucer), secondary hull, pylons (they come as a pair, no mismatching), and nacelles (ditto, re:pairs). All the parts are fully interchangeable. There are also several different (8 maybe? Can't remember off the top of my head) hull materials, along with 5 or 6 window/lifeboat variations and a whole ream of different paint schemes that can be applied over the top (with a pretty comprehensive palette).

Enterprise G. It's been over 20 years since the 1701 E, I should think that the 1701 F would've been retired and the 1701 G would be in service by now and perhaps capable of traveling to the delta quadrant. Can you imagine the knowledge Starfleet got from 7 of 9 when she returned with Voyager?

I agree the E lasting to 2408 seems a little off. But the F is CBS' way of paying homage to the fans, so even if you could debate about it being the G or not, F just feels.....right.

Yes, that's true. But if you recall, when Star Trek TNG originally aired, they skipped the Enterprise B and C. Enterprise C was introduced in TNG Yesterdays Enterprise, and B was introduced in Generations. I should even think that Enterprise D in TNG would have been too old a ship 80 years after The 1701 A was mothballed. I would've expected the 1701 H by that time.

There was 20 years between the Enterprise-C's destruction at Nerendra III and the launch of the Enterprise-D. And my gods, something like 50 years between the B and C

I can see where you're going with this. New ships are always fun to see and you're right, 20 years is a long time. Look at the original NCC-1701; that ship was 25 years old when she was finally destroyed. The supporting books - such as the TNG Tech Manual - make a different case however. The Galaxy-class (1701-D) had an expected service life of 100 years, factoring in several major refits, component replacements and redesigns (like the refit Constitution, or the Venture class for the Galaxy itself in STO). Given that the movies and shows establish that the life of these ships are "tragically cut short" or "went before their time", 20 years is actually not that hard to accept as merely the end of the first phase of the ship's life.

The USS Discovery-1031 is a Crossfield Class

@@TrekCentral Only two Crossfield ships are known to have been built, the Discovery and the Glenn. Both ships were designed specifically to incorporate the Spore Drive technology, as well as extensive science labs and sensor tech. With the Glenn being destroyed with all hands in a Spore Drive related accident, and the Discovery vanishing in the conflict the AI Control, the existence of class was covered up as top secret and the Spore Drive tech deemed unethical and abandoned (as far as anyone knows) by Starfleet.

I agree. It looked good and is way too young to be retired. TNG and DS9 often showed very old ships, and like our own space shuttles and navel vessels they are surely upgraded over time.

hurst814 I wish the writers would come to their senses and retcon the supernova from canon. It’s inclusion in the 2009 movie was utterly ridiculous and almost as stupid as the mycelial network thing Discovery is going on. Whoever came up with that obviously has not a single clue how space and physics actually work and it is such a waste to destroy a very interesting race that has been criminally underused throughout the franchise.

Data uploaded his memory engrams into B-4, with time they took root and turned B-4 basically became Data. There is a hint of it when B-4 starts to hum the very melody Data did in the TNG pilot episode.

If Enterprise's get any curvier they'll morph into The Orville! Not that that would be a bad thing, it is a gorgeous looking ship and I'm waiting for a model kit! Picard/Orville crossover anyone? I think for a new series we need a new Enterprise. I don't play online games (I can't be doing with multiplayer modes in any game to be fair) and I don't know many non-fans would know about, or even care about, what happened in the online game, so it's a perfect opportunity to get a brand spanking new ship out there. I loved the E and would like to see more of her, but this is a new show, with new people so we really need a new Enterprise.

A more compact shape is more structurally sound. Look at the Defiant. And I don't think Star Fleet are the type to abandon advancements made in war time, at least not this soon afterwards.

I hope they changed turn rate on the Yorktown refit in compare to default Oddysey because at the beginning vanilla Oddy was nicknamed a "Space Whale" or "space brick" because unless you slapped two to three RCS engineering consoles (as a sacrifice for consoles boosting weapons or shields) in her default configuration she have turn rate of a sleeping sloth after drinking entire bootle of the tranquilizer. 😅

When do they make a Universe class ship that can travel between galaxies? Like going from the Milky Way to Andromeda. They could do a show about a duo of ships that explore other galaxies together. You would need two ships to team up in such far away lands.

In the Star Trek universe there is apparently an impenetrable barrier on the edge of the Milky Way galaxy where by ships are unable to travel trough, using conventional means.

The Odyssey class is a perfect fit but I have to question where this show will go and how CBS is going to change the Klingons back from that horrible blue look to the ones that we know and love. Quite frankly if it is not recieved well. This 5 year mission will end in one season.

When Janeway returned from the Borg pipeline, it was loaded Borg Technology. That technology should have transferred over to all new Star Ships, especially F. If writers are going to follow Cannon, why the hell was Borg technology not used. Yes, a Voyager style design would be a given as Voyager was the newest technology out of Star Fleet and that technology would have been advanced greatly, Especially with 7 of 9 being more than likely part of all future upgrades to StarFleet technology. She knew and was capable of designing and building Borg tech.

Do not think the retirement is because of age. Most star fleet ships have a long service record. Look at the Miranda, excelsior, galaxy,, nebula, orbeth etc etc clas ships

Not retiring the design, just retiring the ship. They build new ships with old hull designs. The Mirandas and Excelsiors we see are definitely not centuries old. And any ship that does happen to live that long probably got refit and replaced so much that nothing of its original hull remains

I love the way this ship looks, but from a practical design standpoint, the part where the saucer attaches to the secondary hull doesn’t make a lot of sense. If you’re on the port side wanting to get to the starboard side, you have to go up or down several decks and go across the deck and back up to get to your destination, which is highly inefficient, particularly in time of crisis.

Sure, but to be fair, I'm not aware of any crisis important sections in the neck. If distance was truly a problem that can be argued on most Starfleet ships to some degree. A turbolift from the main bridge to engineering is still pretty much the entire length of the ship. Neck to neck in comparison is a short journey.

I know no more than what the video said but maybe Data was a brilliant captain of a loyal crew who gave their lives to their duty. And so prevented years of destructive wars. Maybe they died heroically. 😎

@@rjonboy7608 Most of the crew, including Data survived. He likely turned down the opportunity to captain the Enterprise-F so that a new generation could have the chance to shine.

From what it sounded like the odyssey class was new in the game which is 10 years after picard so how could he have one. Am I missing something here . I am a huge fan of star trek and played sto for a little whe when it first came out but couldn't really get into it and from what I understood nothing that happened in the game was going to be considered cannon. Am I wrong on this. If so I'm going to need to at least watch some videos about the sto main story.

Cryptic would simply retcon STO to adjust for it. Easiest way would be to say Enterprise-F was out on a decade long deep space exploration mission before finally returning in 2409

Yeah... its weird how Enterprise seems to be one of a very select few that uses its name again, and is the ONLY one that retains the original registry number (which shouldn't have been a thing beyond the Constitution-class)

@@k1productions87 why shouldn't it have been a thing? Ships re use names all the time, hell, Enterprise has been re used several times in the real world! This is a fictional fleet, while we live in a world where thousands of fleets have existed and all to some extent have had unique naming schemes. If some future fleet wants to have a single heritage name and registry for all time then who are you to say that's wrong?

@@DrewLSsix I believe you misunderstood me. Its not weird how its name gets re-used, its weird how its the only re-used name that also re-uses the registry number, when by all rights it shouldn't. The only re-used registry should have been the -A because it was still of the same Constitution-class ship type, thus still of the 1700 class. The Enterprise-B should have instead been just "Enterprise" with a 2000 registry. Doubtfully 2001 since there were certainly other Excelsior-class ships first And its not about what I say, I'm going off of Matt Jeffries' notes with regards to the original numbering in the first place.

It's OK as any other new starship, the shape of the front looks quite like Voyager, but not for an Enterprise. I just think her hull should stay round not oval, although the midsection and nacelles are a nice look. The connection between the top and mid sections is a good idea also.

I'd love to see an Armitage class (which was the replacement for the Akira class). I'm thrilled about the Odyssey though. That is one of my favorite ship designs. I hope they also use the bridge, as STO had a really cool almost Mass Effect inspired bridge for the ship.

I like the abilities that the Armitage and Alita classes add, but I would keep the Akira design the way it is. Just add the death blossom to it. Its already just a big torpedo boat anyway

And there wasnt a new Enterprise in Picard. A great shot of the D, and a single new design of Starfleet ship, but nothing else to distract from what the show was supposed to be about. I wasnt a fan of the hero ship they spent most of their time on, but it did the job of being a setting for the story.
