I remember visiting the North Carolina on a trip to Myrtle Island for a golfing weekend. Thank goodness that the choice was made to preserve the ship for future generations to visit, and to have the experience of walking the ship. This is a great memorial to our parents generation and what they were able to do for our country in its hour of great need. Very humbling.

If only someone had the money to get north carolina, alabama or texas underway again and sail around the world for the rest of us to see one. I live in new zealand and would love one to sail into wellington, you would get the whole city down there to have a look! I have lived in england for a while and the only thing close they have is HMS Belfast moored on the thames which is just a cruiser a real shame they didn't keep HMS Warspite.

why are the guns sealed up with plaster or something, it cool and all but I would rather see it being still used and not just sitting there collecting dust, it still would be fun to look at but it's sad to see that just sitting there rusting away
