Firstly, I apologize for the video quality. I didn't realize how terrible the webcam was until I was editing - and I didn't want to refilm so you could see my genuine reaction to seeing my portfolio again a year later.
In this video, I take you through the UX design portfolio presentation that got me my job. These are two conceptual projects because I had no UX experience.

I'm doing research on making a portfolio presentation for my next steps after my UX Design course and this really helps! Thank you so much for putting this out there! Also seeing how you made conceptional projects work clears up confusion I've been running into from what I see people saying hiring managers are looking for :)

You are so inspiring. I’m graduating college this Spring with a degree in marketing, and it has been so difficult to find time to learn UX. I really want to apply for an internship this summer, but I have nothing to show. I hope to be more like you soon 😊

Maybe try the Coursera Google UX Professional certification course! You could learn the UX process at your own pace and start applying it to projects. I recommend uxchallenge.co for project ideas! Best of luck to you :)

Hey Morgan, I am a Motion Designer but wanting to make the switch to UX Design/Product Design. I have been watching a couple of your videos, especially the one about the Bootcamp. 1. Is your day mostly coming up with new design prototypes for Vanguards new app updates? 2. What other tasks other than working on the app/website do ux designers do? Thanks morgan! Tim
@MorganUX
@MorganUX Жыл бұрын
Your experience will depend on the company. My personal day-to-day is a lot of meetings because there are so many different UX roles and departments that need to be kept in the loop. Because I work on an existing product, not a lot of prototyping goes on, we just work very closely with the developers so they know what to do. Other tasks include stakeholder management, design documentation, and facilitating workshops.

Hi...great video! it's helped figure some things out. I'm working on my portfolio (post UX bootcamp) and would love to ask you a couple of questions about your prototype. I'm currently in the middle of my project and feel a bit stuck. just need a lil guidance and maybe a critique about my approach. have a great day.

@@MorganUX first off, thanks for your time. So here's my issue...are you familiar with the design sprint by Jake Knapp? I'm at the prototyping stage and I'm not sure to use Figma or the suggested Keynote. So I wanted to ask...did you build a prototype? Have you done a sprint? Not sure if I'm taking the the right route here. Any and all feedback based on your experience is welcomed. Thanks again.
@MorganUX
@MorganUX 10 ай бұрын
@@Germ26 I did build a prototype for testing, we do sprints at work but I didn't do it for my projects in this portfolio presentation because I was working solo - so it was kind of around the clock work until it was finished. I do think you might be overthinking this a bit, how you make the prototype doesn't matter, the purpose is to test your concepts our conduct usability testing - you just want to get learnings out of this. I personally wouldn't use keynote, it's clunky and difficult to use and design with. If you know how to use Figma, I would definitely go with Figma. (I'm also not sure if prototyping tools were as advanced - or even existed - when Jake worked with that company he used keynote for).

@@MorganUX I feel like you're spot on...I could absolutely be overthinking. I've watched you mentioned how challenging this journey could be and I feel like I'm facing that reality head on right now. With that said, I'm very confident because of the work I've already got done and all I've learned thus far. I'll be prototyping the next 2 days and continue the journey. Thanks for the advice. I'll continue with Figma. I agree, I don't think Figma was even around when the book was written. Thanks for the advice. You've given me a boost of confidence which I'm sure you know could be the biggest help while on this journey. Just a thought....I could pay your fee for a video chat if you ever have the time to show you what I've got so far and some more practical advice. if not, no worries and thank you. For anyone who's read this exchange....Don't give up! the journey is challenging but so worth it!!

@@Germ26 That is so AWESOME! It's really easy to get lost in the details - it helps to ground yourself every once in a while by asking "what is the value/purpose of me doing this thing?" - which is also really helpful when designing! You're asking all of the right questions and are eager for feedback, so I can say that you're definitely on the right track for a UXer. I was thinking of doing a live stream soon, maybe I could critique what you have and you can live chat?

How many projects do interviewers want to see in the slide deck? I googled it and it seems like most people present one or two. tbh I only want to present my best work (= one out of three projects I have) but im not sure whether I should make more slides for another project (so I can have two project presentations)
@MorganUX
@MorganUX Жыл бұрын
It is usually 1 or 2, it depends on the interviewers. Have at least 2 prepared at all times. Make sure to ask your recruiter how long the presentation should be and how many projects they want to see, as well as what they’re looking for.

@@MorganUX thank you! The project that im most proud of is about education (virtual learning) and my second-best project is also about education (again, virtual learning). Both were group projects Ive done in school. Research findings kinda overlap as well as the surveys, interviews, etc. were done in covid times where all students had to take remote courses. Do you think I should create another project since both are related to education? (Both are mobile apps, although those two have different features/functionalities) The remaining project I have is ok but it's a redesign project so I dont want to include it in my slide deck.
@MorganUX
@MorganUX Жыл бұрын
@@user-vk2ei5ze4y that’s not really a decision for me to make for you. Your projects should be based on the type of work you want to do. Do you want to work in the education space? Do you want to do mobile apps? Was the work you completed in these projects (research, UI, etc) something you’d want to do in your job? If the answer is no to any of those questions, do a new project.

@@MorganUX thank you. tbh i am open to any industry. i was wondering if companies that are not in the education field would not like my portfolio... i might consider creating another project. Also for the project presentation, lets say i have 15 figma screens: i dont need to show every single screen in my presentation, right? (For example, if the project is a chat app, i would only need to showcase the main feature (chat) and would not need to show the less important ones (e.g. settings)
