I appreciate that you have such an optimistic outlook on this topic, especially because it feels like some creators seem to go about things in a fear-mongering way. I’m still in the process of taking a UX Design course, so I haven’t gotten my feet wet yet. BUT, I do think that AI will simply be a TOOL for designers. Like you said, AI isn’t capable of having empathy, which is a huge factor in the spirit of UX.
@MorganUX3 ай бұрын
Completely agree - I'm already in the field and find myself getting down by 'UX influencers' only talking about negative things. The tech industry in general goes up and down - but in my opinion UX isn't going anywhere.

Hey Morgan, thanks for your videos… I was wondering what is your pay as a UX designer. Or you can give an estimate. And do you think Ux/ui will last long in tech industry. Can it be replaced by AI?
@MorganUX3 ай бұрын
Hello! UX designer pay really depends on the company/area/role - but entry level roles generally start around $70k that I saw. I will make a video in the future all about my pay! Regarding AI, I'm not an expert but from what I've learned I am not concerned about AI taking over jobs.

@MorganUX3 ай бұрын
So sorry I didn't see this sooner! I will just say from my personal experience that I have not heard great things about bootcamps that are connected to universities. That doesn't mean USF's isn't good or that something like CF is better, that's just my personal experience.

I’m considering a career change and just recently started entertaining the idea of UX/UI. I’m currently signed up for the Google Certificate. Would you recommend a bootcamp after that?
@MorganUX3 ай бұрын
So sorry I didn't see this sooner, I stopped getting comment notifications for some reason. I have not personally done the Google Certificate, but I imagine it's on par with a bootcamp (only difference might be that Coursera doesn't have dedicated tutors/mentors or job prep like bootcamps tend to). It's all about your learning style - if you feel that you can learn enough from the Google Certification program that you can go off and do your own projects then I would go for it. But if you want to do a bootcamp regardless, I'd skip the Google program and go right to the bootcamp.

Hi, I was thinking about getting an associates degree in graphic design and then transitioning into ux/ui design. Do you think that a bachelors is that much necessary for you to get a ux design job and get into the field?
@MorganUX3 ай бұрын
I know someone who doesn't have a bachelor's but did a bootcamp and got a UX job (it did take a while though). I really can't say how much having a degree in something affects your job prospects because I do have a degree (even though it's not design related). When our team is hiring and I look at resumes I don't really care about education, I immediately look at the portfolio. So your main struggle would be getting past the initial screening that gets you to the hiring team.

Is it possible for newbie at UI UX to get a job these days? All i see is recruiting seniors and mid-levels so i am kinda lost now. How do I improve to be better? Thanks for amazing video
@MorganUX3 ай бұрын
Of course! Tech is in a weird place right now so there will be ebbs and flows of UX jobs. The main way to improve is to build out your portfolio and show improvement in every project. It helps to work with small local businesses who may need a new website, or a friend who has an app idea.

Hi Morgan. I’m looking at Career Foundry as well. It claims that there is a job guarantee. Is that how you got your gig? The 6 month time lapse before you got your final gig is a bit concerning.
@MorganUX7 ай бұрын
Hi! I did not go through with the job guarantee program, I wish I had, but it fortunately worked out for me. It took me 6 months because I was very picky in my job search - I wanted to stay somewhere long-term. I also took a lot of time to work on solo projects.

Beyond mastering design tools, the journey includes prototyping, various research methods, design processes, case studies, presentations, and whiteboarding - an endless process. Your insights have given me the confidence to start my own case study. Despite knowing what needs to be done, psychological barriers like fear and self-doubt pose powerful challenges to overcome.

Congratulations again, Morgan, on starting your master's program and thanks for taking us on your journey through grad school! I graduated from Designlab's UX bootcamp and also completed an internship with a real estate finance startup, but finding a UX job continues to be a big challenge! I have a teaching background and at this point, am debating on if I should pursue instructional design. My friend who introduced me to bootcamp sadly got laid off as a UX designer and wasn't able to land one either. ☹️ She was thinking of applying to an MS program in Learning Design and Technology and I might try as well! Any of your insights would be appreciated! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on why you are taking this opportunity whilst also continuing your full-time career! Makes sense to me. I'm curious to know how things go along the way, so I'll stay tuned! Love your shirt and yay for being a homeowner! 🏡 (my internship project was actually about helping customers save money to buy their first home!)
@MorganUX7 ай бұрын
Definitely could have used your internship project during my house hunt! So sorry to hear about your friend and your struggle during your job hunt! I always recommend that people play around with things like their resume when they're not getting bites. I saw a difference in my job hunting success when I started writing brief descriptions of design projects I had done on my resume, as well as writing descriptions of impact and purpose instead of bullet points of tasks for my experience section. If you're getting through to recruiters but not hiring managers, you might want to take a look at your portfolio. If you're getting to interviews but not getting offers, it's time to practice interview skills. I can't offer you advice on if you should get more education, I feel that would be unethical. I can say that I personally wouldn't pursue education over projects due to the financial aspect, and I have never heard someone say that their job search suddenly turned around because of an additional degree. If UX is something you really want to pursue, I would take on more freelance (even unpaid) or solo projects to continue to build your portfolio and get your hands dirty - that's just what I would do! Best of luck!

Hey, I’ve been meaning to ask in terms of our broad spec of skills. Is CSS and HTLM something we should familiarize ourselves with much like coding, where it’s not practical, but is important to know where we draw the lines within the confinements of the devs ? Or are they actually something we practically have to use ? Like I.e Figma. Thanks in advance !! Good luck on the house 🍁🙏🏾
@MorganUX7 ай бұрын
So I personally have never NEEDED to know any coding in order to communicate with my developers, but jobs generally see it as a bonus! So I wouldn't stress, but if you have the time it doesn't hurt to familiarize yourself. I recommend Scrimba!
