Perfect timing with this video as I'm currently in the TRENCHES 🥵putting together my portfolio and no lies were told when you said this is the most depressing part of the process. It feels like it's never-ending. This video gives me hope that it's worth the effort, and a new perspective on considering working with an agency.
@ItsUXgirl7 ай бұрын
It’s most literally never ending, since every few years you’ll have more projects and would wanna change your aesthetics 😅 I can’t stress enough how much I recommend working for an agency for at least your first year- the amount of products you’ll tough and experience will make you 100* times more experienced than a designer who worked on one product It has taught me SO many skills in such a short period of time You’ll earn a low salary in comparison to an in house designer, but will gain much more in my humble opinion

You've got all these beautiful graphics that show stuff on phones and on screens and stuff, like for your S'wear project in red and white. How did you create those mockups? Is it with a program? Thank you so much for your helpful video! Subscribed and I'll look through your other videos later. Thank you. I'm designing my first portfolio after being a solopreneur for physical not technical products and I have so much analysis paralysis and regret that I never really kept records of websites and products or anything that I created. I just designed stuff, had it made, marketed it and sold it. Now I'm looking to work for a company and I wish I had kept better records. All you young folks out there have everything so beautifully displayed to market yourself and your creations. I'm trying my best but I'm just overwhelmed. Anyhow, thank you and keep going with the great content!

great insight for those looking for their entry level positions. Great value 🙂 i will say tho, it can be risky to personalize your (by your i mean whoever is reading this, not the videocreator herself) portfolio too much. i did so with my first portfolio and i got lots of leads from a lot of headhunters etc but they all said the same thing: ”unpersonalize” it and make it valuable. It is sad to say, but most companies wont choose a portfolio based on it, but they most definetly can turn one away because of it. Showcase your personality in the interview, thats what its for ..to see if you are a fit with the company 👍 This is not meant as criticism, just friendly advice to keep in mind 👍
@ItsUXgirl5 ай бұрын
Thanks! I think it depends on many factors, and I can’t really say since I haven’t saw your portfolio. Maybe it was a bit too personal? From the top examples that I’ve seen, having that personal touch to see your personality adds a lot of value, but I agree that it has to be balanced

shalom...me again. I have watched your video again after I had finished my UX design google course. I'm now working on my portfolio and I want to ask you a few questions if I may. What platform did you choose for your portfolio? (and why?) Is it worthwhile asking design companies for unpaid experience? I thought to knock on doors and ask if there is a part time opportunity to be part of the UX team (even if observing) for a short term?

Shalom! Haha 1- I used Webflow the build my portfolio (after designing it on Figma) 2- anything that’ll give you the experience to get your first job is worth it in my opinion. You can actually look for nonprofit organizations and design for them for free. I’m sure they would appreciate it and you will earn your experience that way. Good luck!

Hi, when you were freelancing, how did you implement website designs? Did you provide only the design (and the client had a developer to code)? Did you have a friend to do it or did you do it yourself?
@ItsUXgirl5 ай бұрын
Hey It depends, for websites I used Webflow and built everything myself. For products (or very complex websites) the clients usually had their own developers. I will say, however, that I recommend having good freelance developers and designers in your contacts, that you can collaborate with from time to time

You mentioned you were a graphic designer, I studied and graduated with a bachelor's in Graphic Design, but I have been a Digital Arts Teachers at a High School for the past 9 years, I'm looking into a career change, would you say that going to a BootCamp to study UI UX is necessary, or is it possible for me to just try to freelance in the UI UX area to build a portfolio? Bootcamp cost about 12k, so I'm debating if it's something I should do, or just try to use my design skills to move from there.
@ItsUXgirl5 ай бұрын
It’s a hard question to answer, but maybe you can start with free courses/KZbin content and try to start working in it- see if it works, see if you’re actually interested in it. And then if you feel like it’s really something you wanna commit to- take that course and invest in yourself and in your career I can definitely say my Textile Design studies in university helped me get to where I am in terms of design basics

For my first portfolio- yes, exactly that. When a designer just start their journey they don’t have any real practical experience, so they need to create conceptual fake projects to somehow demonstrate their design skills. That was my first portfolio. As I got experience I replaced those “fake” projects with real ones.
