I learned a meditation (& a healing practice) visualization :From Guru P.S. Light of colors :white ,blue, green , yellow , red , black from his chakras to mine . (I may have the order of colors slightly skewed). I first learned this mantra from Baba Ram Dass in a talk in Colorado Springs in 1975or '74 .

(continued) The pre-Buddhist gods & demons also were bribed w. beer . The book by S. Ortner is "Sherpas and Their Ways" , I believe . I was brought into awareness of this Buddhist hero & great sage (Bodhisattva ) by the gift of a Nepali block print for Xmas in 1971. For 34 years , the rice-paper print was on my wall above my bed . In2004 , my son graduated college in Boston . He got his " first apartment " , and I gave it to him . I think he lost it . 34 years . sunya.

Padma Sambhava is also known in Nepal for introducing BEER BREWING ! I read a sociological work by S. Ortner on the sherpas . They operate by a social system of benign "bribery " involving BEER . If you need help clearing a field ---everybody comes and drinks your ber. Ina strict rank-order .

Vajra, Guru, Pema, Siddhi, Hum are the FIVE FAMILY: Vajra= Akshobia the Water Guru=Ratnasambhava, the Earth. Pema= Amithabha, the Fire. Siddhi=Amogasiddhi, the Air. Hum=Vairochana, the Space.

Interesting & unusual to hear the Vajra Guru mantra like this, as Tibetans (& in the west, well the 2 sanghas I've been in, we also) pronounce as: "Om Ah Hung Benza Guru Pema Siddhi Hung" A good explanation is in The Tibetan Book of LIvivng and Dying Appendix 4.
