Valuable advice! I use Mars Black which is more neutral, Ivory Black is more blue.

Yes, I consider Ivory Black a muted blue.

Hi John. Do I need to buy Primary Red, Primary Blue, and Primary Yellow to begin a limited palette? I'm confused as other painters say to use different reds, blues, and yellows.

Ali, The simple answer is, NO! If you watch some of my KZbin videos you will gain a quick understanding of why and how I go about selecting my primaries. Other painters are correct. Many will use a warm and cool of each primary, and there are lots of various reds, blues, and yellows available.

Do you start with a tube of black and which one or do you mix your black?

Yes, Titanium white on one end, Ivory Black on the other.
