How I mix a value scale in oil paint fast!

Mixing a value scale is the first assignment most painting and drawing classes task you with completing. This is because knowing how to mix a value scale will teach you the mechanics of the materials while simultaneously training your eye to see the most critical component in two dimensional art.
In this video, you'll see my method to mix a value scale in under ten minutes. It takes a lot of the brain work out of the process. By the time you have most of the values mixed, you'll barely have to adjust your values to complete the scale.

Something fun when you get better at values: I always enjoy mixing complementary pigments to figure out which ones can easily give neutral grays! The best result I got, mixing equal parts paint piles, was with pyrrole red and cobalt teal (the pb28 version), which yielded a nearly perfect value 5 neutral gray. See also: Prussian Blue + Venetian Red (transparent Red Iron Oxide + Pruss. Makes a black), Michael Harding Lemon Yellow + any brand Manganese Violet, Magenta + Thalo Green (black), Ultramarine+Yellow Orange e.g., Cad Yellow Deep, Golden Ochre, Orange Ochre.
