Pat Brown and Todd Barnes (T.S.O.L.) used to be two of the craziest people in Long Beach. That's my godfather singing. RIP Stevo-O, you are missed.

I know Pat Brown was an original member of one of Jack Grisham's earlier bands, but he couldn't play worth a shit so he was replaced. He was definitely V.C. (Vicious Circle) one of the First LBC/HB Punk Rock gangs ever. The Vandals changed in Dec. 1983 when Human left, then got worse after Stevo Left. Stevo was the most important member, since he had a distinct personality that PERFECTLY Illustrated the songs. Jan rules as did Human. The band ended in my eyes after Stevo was kicked out. It went downhill when Human left, but stayed okay with Chalmers on Bass as he was one of the O.G. Members (The band ended in 1986 in my eyes)

The group coming out of the Church in the beginning looks exactly like a good handful of ppl I went to HS with. I was in HS 82'-86 so the big part of punk was already over but there was still a good size group of wannabees. Had I of been in HS 78'-1982 I would of witnessed the real one's. I was in a thrift shop in La Habra in 1981 with my surfer long hair and youthful looks when Bunky Backman and Sergio and a crew of Real Punkers from La Habra HS came in. Bunky picked up some shears and was looking over at me. He didn't know who I was but I knew who he was. Was a little nervous but did escape with my hair in tacked. True Story! I also knew guy's who knew Pat Brown.

That is fucking stupid, bands usually didn't have enough money to make merch. I have been going to punk gigs for over 30 years, every shirt I own I bought at gigs, does that make me less of a punk? Just saw TSOL, Rhino 39 and Circle One last night, great gig, coming up on 50, it keeps me young.

Cookie cutter looks do you know what punk is? Mike is right. I can't hardly find much punk rock stuff in the fucking town I live in anymore. so I make my own. looks are not everything. lol

@@automatichornetNOJB let's be honest UK 80s punk was a complete rip off of Oi and the sex pistols, every Brit punk of the 80s were commie robots wearing the same lame Mohawks and the same patches. Just imagine how cringy and phony the Exploited were I'd say they were the main reason why punk became a fashion, they are responsible for the mess.

Joe Escelante stole the songs, ruined Steve-o and exploited and stripped punk like the new wave model in this movie. There was a punk Zine circulating in the early nineties warning of kung fu records, a poser record label disguised as Punk but will eventually destroy the scene. Those proved to be some prophetic words. Punk has been shredded marketed and packaged beyond recognition. But, whenever I watch this movie I still feel the nostalgia and spirit of DIY in my heart! When I left my abusive home at 15 years old... this movie is to thank for that boldness. Nothing last forever, but the old scene still holds a special place in my heart. 🤘💓💣💥

Joe was and probably remains a lawyer, which was something I learned in the 1990s when Kung Fu records was one of my advertisers. Does this have something to do with the Vandals being ruined? I won't state so, but I feel that we should all know who did what.

@DroogInPhoenix11 жыл бұрын
There is a reason it is a cult classic. I grew up in Montebello in the 70s/80s, where some of it was filmed, the phone booth opening, where the 105 and 605 were the abandoned houses in Downey, they sat there for years after the movie was made, at least till late 80s... From the freeway you could see a 7 Seconds and Blitz tag on the side of a boarded up house next to the 605 along with other punk graffiti. The film isn't meant to be The Outsiders. Think Over The Edge.

I saw the Vandals at The Mab in SF CA circa 1984 and they did Lady Killer a super great song and one wore a Record Player like a guita and scratched during the song. These ahead of their time Punk Funk were so great!! I had a radio show on THE Quake one of 3 major stations that played New Wave and Punk and the Vandals came to visit and gave me a gift of Frozen Corndogs which I attempted I think to give as a prize as it was a game show called "Graveyard AGoGo" I was the Hostess Twinkie The Hostess with the Mostess The Vanna White of the Airwaves That was my role and Handal Vandal! Yes but what if you did get paid enough doing something enjoyable and could eat and buy stuff for other people without clocking in? It's hard to hate them off that alone. If you need to hate though , the crappy music is enough. All three of those bands have more or less stayed true to themselves ( not necessarily true to "punk") into old age, which is a challenge, nofx actually improved after repeating the same album four or five times. Maximum rock n roll is still my favorite

@patbrown911 Depends on what you like in a movie. Some people like movies that capture a period of time and a lifestyle that most people arent familiar with. Add to the the pure 80s nostalgia and the great bands and well someone like me considers this movie fuckin great. It was never destined to win any awards, but if you think award winning movies are the only good ones then you obviously arent in the proper demographic for this movie.
