Really amazing..!! :) Yeah, I agree women drop out after certain period of time due to certain personal engagements and maternal responsibilities, but it's high time we organize more programs like "Back to Work" at the GHCI to lend a helping hand and to encourage them achieve this motto. Amazing TED :)

Is there another workforce that is showing an increase in women? Maybe the fields used in these statistics aren't appealing to women right now? (possible reasons including wages, stress factors, benefits etc.)

Lots of food for thought. Well articulated in the examples ... Loved the one about her daughter wanting to be an athlete. Doubt many of us would have bit our tongue but rather suggested they take athletics on as a hobby

She's talking about choices that girls don't get to make regarding their career, 75% of boys in Indian Engineering colleges didn't want to choose this field but had to, it's Indian parenting system For every girl forced into arranged marriage, there is a boy who is pressured to do so too Where girls are expected to learn to cook and pressured into taking specific decision choices over their dreams, boys too are expected to have a stable income and made to give up on their ambitions. SO why is it that every issue faced by indian children, boys are just neglected and it's made into a feminist issue.

Great speech Rashmi! A true situation of a gender being alienated from participation! There are scenarios with single ladies can spend time, however rarely a case with a family. This kinda gets a little relaxed in India with house help, however the mom needs to be there with the kids! The loads of upbringing kids is also very critical! The husband needs to be there to assist the growth of kids.

Women don't major in STEM fields. And no matter how much you try to push the hard sciences on them, many are not interested. It's that simple.

See but you are wrong. The majority of people applying to college in the US are women, 30% of the people in STEM fields in colleges around the world are women, but the ratio is different in the higher level jobs and that is what needs to be fixed. Don't dismiss a large group of people because your uneducated guesses that aren't backed up by correct facts
