Vedas are too hard and complex to learn by own. But you can surely read Puranas as they are easy to understand. We also keep Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, Mahabharat and Puranas at home and read them. Roger, as you are a Krishna devotee, I suggest you to start with Bhagavat Purana or Vishnu Purana. Jai Shree Ram ❣️🙏🏻

Vedas are the bedrock of Hinduism. But this does not mean that they have the highest authority. The Bhagvad Gita and Upanishads hold way more importance than the Vedas. As the philosophy of the Bhagvad Gita and Upanishads are beyond time and space. Vedas are a knowledge base for humans. They contain knowledge on philosophy, medicine, politics, music and tantra. Vedas is a compilation of knowledge. Bhagvad Gita and Upanishads are the refined nectar of all human and divine knowledge. To make a comparison, the Old Testament and New Testament are holy scriptures in Christianity but they are triumphed over by Bible.

Veda literally means 'knowledge'. Hence no one person can say I know it all. Only person in recent times who has come closer to know it better was Adi Shankaracharya. He is also considered as incarnation of Shiva as a normal human cannot comprehend it as he did. He simplified and revived it's knowledge during his time. Vedas actually go beyond the 4 documented books. It's knowledge was passed from a Guru to disciple verbally or through recitation which has to "listened" - meaning "Shruti". Moreover this knowledge was intercepted by Rishis and they jotted it down as they listened it without adding any personal opinions. Hence they are considered sacred and pure. The sanskrit used in vedas cannot be fully understood by even today's sanskrit scholar since it's too cryptic. Hope this helps ! 🙏 Jai shri Ram🙏

It's okay to learn the past, getting things out of past. But have you (most importantly my Indian friends) ever wondered why they didn't claim anything, even if there were so thoughtful about future? The answer is Nishikama karma. When you value life and when you value the nothingness, the detachment from karma is achieved. When you detached from your karma, every action you do gets boosted, sharpen and powerful, in accordance to the effort you put. But some may not like it, because the outcome has no owner. That's what people of those era were, those are also the people of this era too. I am not a Hindu, and I am very concerned about the way how Hindus present the Veda. Veda is an ancient ritual-based religious system that encountered anti-Vedic stance from Jainism and Buddhism in the second and first millennia BCE. It was their philosophies that triggered, during the first century to the 19th century AD, schools such as Samkhya, Vaisheshika, Nyayika, Vaishnava, Shaiva, and advaitya which based some of their views on Veda, came into being and created a new creation theory based a newfound "Trinity." It was the latter philosophical schools and many indigenous Indic non-vedic schools that came together to form today's "Hinduism." To think that the modern-day Hindu concept of creationism or cosmology predates Jainism or Buddhism is historically no true. Even today, schools do not agree even on simple questions such as who created the universe. Unfortunately, Hindu scholars just do not explain this to Hindu practitioners!
