The Vegan Cyclist VS Cameron Jeffers RACE UP ALP DU ZWIFT (A Zwift Race Breakdown)

The Vegan Cyclist (me) and Cameron Jeffers went head to head up the alp du zwift climb on Zwift. We set up a public event and we got over 1,000 people to join in on the fun. In this zwift race cycling video, I breakdown how the race was won, show you power, heart-rate, and explain how it all happened.
Ok, that above paragraph was for SEO merit, this is the truth. Cameron hit me up a week ago with the idea of a heads up race. I really didnt want too because on paper Cam is WAY STRONGER THAN ME. But I cant just show the good stuff, my channel is much more about the everyday man with hella responsibilities trying to stay fit on the bike and compete.
So I agreed and hyped up what I thought was going to be a small event that I was gonna get crushed in. But then the event got really popular and people started taking sides and I had all these vegans wanting me show the V power and all of Camerons side wanted to see bacon shoved down my throat.
So I got real serious about it, tapered my training, and went FULL SEND. I had no intention on this being another flex video, and to be honest, a ton of other guys went way faster. Like here in this live stream of the race - • Cameron Jeffers vs. Ve...
But I did my best 40 min power I have EVER DONE. I usually crack under the pressure but this time I rose to the occasion. I had a small gap for the first 10 mins, he brought me back, and then we kinda played games for a bit. I recovered enough to respond to 2 attacks and then sent my one of my own. I went so deep that I still feel weird 8 hours later.
Zwift is legit dude, and its the future wether you like it or not. And I guess one thing I would like to say is plants wont kill you. I have made huge gains on the vegan diet and not that you have to go full vegan, but proper diet is a good thing. Either way bro, thank you for following this journey with me, cant wait to see where this goes dude.

This was super cool. I watch both of you guys and honestly didn't really know who would win. The thing I like about you is you have this raw passion that is contagious. You always go full out 100% and we can tell, and it drives us to do that as well. Keep it up dude I look forward to watching a rematch (and the race from Cam's perspective) and my Kickr Core is showing up in like 5 days so I can't wait to get in there and see what I am made of!

It was exciting to watch and even better to see how much sportsmanship you both have. Mad respect. Zwift will be getting a lot of new users with content like this. Looking forward to viewing the rematch.

With your massive gains over the last year it would be cool to see what you've learned/changed in your approach to cycling since 2017. Good job! If you ever do a rematch, have the race between Cam and you start at the bottom of the Alpe but still stick with the front group until then. It was a bummer to see Cam stop and wait for you because at this point you know the front pack won't stop. So you have to chose between racing the front guys or racing you. And you can't just compare times up the Alpe because you're not as fresh when you've raced from the start.
@TheVCAdventures
@TheVCAdventures 5 жыл бұрын
So I asked him a few days before the race what he wanted to do. He said chill ride to the alp climb. It wasn't a race from the gun, as we wanted to get the whole group to the climb if possible. I even asked again in the staging before the start. He again said chill. So it sucked to see I was a minute down 10s into the ride. Next time we need a full in road race.

Thats awesome to hear bro! My advice to maybe just add in more plants over time. No need to 100% cut out everything, but when you eat more plants, you will feel good, when you feel good, you will want to keep it going. By no time, you may very well be 95% plants. Which is a win in my book.

+Requiredfields2 : Yeah, the winner 18:27 looks so legit, that he was disqualified www.zwiftpower.com/events.php?zid=125848 +L. traveler : I watched for the profiles of the the first four places, and none of them look legit (at this level of performance). 1st : disqualified. 2nd : Cevaz pending, not an elite competitor (not any proof of having finishing one), only a solid cyclosportive. 3rd : *EX* elite racer (typically below 5w/kg FTP anyway), now supposed to be below that, practicing at a hobby (264km a week during the year, last month 292km a week. Honorable, but nothing amazing. 4th : *EX* pro. And this isn't ping-pong : in cycling you have to maintain a consistant training to keep a high level of performance. Typically 220km a week during the last year, 255km a week during the last month. Honorable, but no way enough to be competitive. Note : now he has a business as a coach, and perhaps pretending to be strong without training consistantly can have some advantages... Now, 5.4w/kg during 1 hour = 5.4w/kg FTP. And that represents 5.68w/kg for a 20' test (if you have a high level of endurance, which can't be the case with that few training they have : not enough volume). With a bad level of endurance (like they all must have, excepted Sean Vintin who has enough km), the gap is bigger between 20' and 1 hour test. But even if i'm tolerant, and I would consider they've a high level of endurance, 5.68w/kg for 20' is mid div. I/II pro, and the lower limit of world class. decaironmantraining.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/power-profiling-chart.gif Typical Continental pro is 5.19w/kg for 20' (so 4.93w/kg FTP). That's consistant with Jasper Verkuijl and Cameron Jeffers, who can ride at this level, and develop this power (Vegan Cyclist has probably not enough endurance to do so, even if his FTP is nearly enough). Most of these zwifters are mythoman, even zava approved. You can be approved and cheat further : approved at 5w/kg (probably by cheating), then develop more, and with less effort. Or being zava approved when you're at your top (like when you're pro), then still be considered at this level after 2 years of stoping training like a pro (like from 800km a week to 250, and being considered to have the same level for life). I've checked several zava approved, and I can easy see they cheat : their cardio doesn't fit at what is possible (way too low comparing to their max power and max heart rate) + doesn't fit at what we see at CVR races and on their further results (lower cardio for the same power compared to what we could see on live videos).

I thought you had no chance, and that you were just a big fish in a small pond in your low population density area of California. You proved me so wrong, good one! :-) Epic race, this esports thing is great to watch in the winter.

@@mitchellsteindler Yeah, I saw his numbers, but I've also been looking at other people's numbers. I'm saying I've been proven wrong, not trying to be down on Tyler, he did really well. You read my whole comment or just the first sentence?

I am 100% in agreement lol. I was SOOOO worried about just getting shit on instantly, that it might make all my other accomplishments less...worthy I guess. I know what your saying and I went DEEEEEP to not let it happen

@@mitchellsteindler Cameron is a neo-pro. He's coached by Steve Lampier, who is a serious professional, from a country which currently produces some of the best riders in the world. Tyler is an excellent cat 1 rider in his 30's with family commitments from an area with much lower population density. On paper you'd expect Cameron to win, but such credit to Tyler his ability to go so deep is very impressive. It also shows how being vegan makes no difference to ability, or might even help your riding. I'm 100% proud of, and impressed by Tyler, nothing else. I really don't see your point Mitchell other than you seem to be unable to see things objectively.

Huge congratulations VC! I must admit, on paper, I thought Cameron would smash it, so a brilliant effort and a great race by the both of you! Were there other Pro's riding in this race, some of the leaders watts per Kilo's were very impressive?

This was not a typical performance for me man, this was achieving 100% of my physical ability. But being able to recover under stress is very important. I recommend doing over under efforts to help your recovering ability.

press [G] to remove your power colors at the bottom so you can read the names and gaps clearly. the color bars are not of any use in a RACE - they are more of a hindrance.
