Amazing interview, Tom! He is definitely a controversial and complex character but also makes some sound points despite his sociopathic tendencies. I think the biggest flaw is people expecting vegans to be monotonous and like he said they cannot separate his individual character from veganism as a whole. People are just people and we should stop glorifying and expecting public figures or people with a large platform to be perfect. I do not understand people's need to throw everyone into an exclusively good or bad category, most people are somewhere in between as good people are capable of doing bad things and vice versa.
@foolish.intellectual996711 ай бұрын
I think the reason people compartmentalize other people this way is because the vast majority of people are good people and there’s a loud minority of bad people so it’s easier then the real complex spectrum all people lie on basically it’s just really easy to say all people are either good or bad wayyyyy easier then understanding the complexity of people

He was tortured in grade 4 which struck a chord with me. I was tortured in grade 3 and 4 by a teacher that I had both years. Sent to detention every day, usually for no reason. This arrested my development, and I can guarantee that it arrested Vegan Gains' development as well. This is made even worse by teachers being worse today than they were back then. Then our elites wonder why the youth are so troubled.... you gotta laugh at it because otherwise it'll make you cry. Who can relate to teachers that ruined their lives?
@A1Bokeh11 ай бұрын

@PhillyCh3zSt3ak11 ай бұрын
Something similar happened to me in second grade. Transferred in as the new kid and for some reason the teacher had an axe to grind with me. I never found out why nor do I really care anymore. Constant detentions and my grades screwed around with to make me look less intelligent than I was (parents noticed because they helped with my homework when they were told how "bad" I was doing). Man, did that teacher's tone change when my dad became the principal the following year. Her adopted son (because she was barren as all hell) getting arrested for possession on top of grand larceny was enough catharsis for me. This was over 20 years ago, just for reference.

Having seen Vegan Gains on many debates throughout the years I've actually developed respect for him. I disagree with him on pretty much everything, however he does make the effort to be completely consistent in his worldview so although I can disagree with his worldview and argue against it from my own, the one thing I can't argue is an internal critique where he's contradicting himself that way. In debate, that's very respectable to be able to be that consistent. He also seems like an alright bloke (in the sense that he doesn't seem aggressive and malicious), despite what people claimed about him years ago.

You can tell this guy has good intentions even if he has a few screws loose.
@PhillyCh3zSt3ak11 ай бұрын
Yeah, screwing with natural selection, at least in nature, can easily go wrong. After all, when the wolves were exterminated out of Yellowstone the entire ecosystem was thrown out of whack with moose breeding to the point of overgrazing on willows and aspins screwing with beavers abilities to build dams and riverbanks eroding. Wolves kept them in check. With proper hunting (as in the DNR making sure only what needs to be hunted is hunted to conserve the ecosystem). The fact that wolves airdropped onto a Michigan's Island Royale National Park starting with 4 but now up in the 20's are able to control an out of control population the area of around 900 square miles is astonishing. And now that wolves are being introduced back to Yellowstone both deer and elk populations are starting to become under control once more and the wildlife affected are slowly recovering.

There's a follow up paper debunking this. The author's took back their previous claims. I'm sure you can find it online if you just search for the follow up paper. Or just tell me , I'll find it and link it here

@@bauabhno there isn’t the paper is referring to how the stable elk population would move around to avoid wolves the authors took nothing back and im pretty sure its not even the same authors

@@Assassin99584 You either suck at research or are purposely spreading misinformation. Sorry but wolves didn't magically save the willow trees from being eaten by elk in Yellowstone.

@@Ryo7_7 it's the social *injustice that's depressing and to be confronted with the overwhelmingly bad sides of humanity constantly. Just a reasonable reaction, doesn't mean we shouldn't fight for social justice issues. Funny thing is, the more people would engage in it, the less depressed these individuals will probably become, because then there's increased perspective (hope) and companionship.

Definitely funnier than ppl think. Not so much in interviews, but his skits were good. He just has some dark demons. We all do maybe; but there's is some sociopathic tendencies and I can see him having a tragic ending. Wouldn't shock me. Haven't watched him in yrs. I don't even know how this showed up. Don't know who this interviewer is either.

im sorry but i cant help but feel a very personal and un objective approach from Tom. the way he articulated his questions sound judgmental and super biased (also his body language tbh). asking, and i quote "why do you feel this way about animals, why do you feel they deserve so much empathy, or shouldnt be killed" (excuse me?), and whenever he is about to describe VG "perceived" character he follows it with "what most people would consider" when it is obviously his own opinions on vg. I just dont appreciate interviewers who seem not genuine with a fixed opinion already. the tragic thing about vg is that his façade erases his explanation about veganism, kind of like hate the messenger- not the massage. people are very quick to hate on him because of his stance on humans. the guy is 100% honest and is open about his disdain from humans- i think there are alot more reasons to hate humans then animals, and playing deaf dumb and blind to this notion is just insane. p.s, thats coming from a super empathetic, super sensitive person, so much so i sometimes wish i was psychotic for my own good- but this "otherness" i see people putting on vg gives me so much of a "i have zero critical thinking". stop pretending like this world isnt fueled with man mad trauma. humans hurt humans, humans are super nuanced. you dont have to agree with his repulsion from humans, but tp let that entirely cancel his point is super weak minded. this whole interview was so biased, the choice of wording and rhetoric just scream bias.
@KineticWars11 ай бұрын
imagine thinking animals shouldn't be killed is described as "why do you fee animals deserve so much empathy?" actually ACTUALLY insane.
