And you'll notice, friends: No flash pots, no smoke bombs, no weird face makeup. Just fantastic musicians doing their thing. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame notwithstanding, The Ventures have never gotten the credit they truly deserve, IMHO.

I agree. They were a powerful inspiration for me. Made me love guitar for guitar but all of them were great.

we loved to play that song and walk don't run....those were the days for young bands who were short on singing.....man we played lots of instrumentals....Memphis, scratchy, Matilda, wheels, surf twist, wipe out, caravan, 4o miles of bad road, milk cow blues, steel guitar rag, sleepwalk, out of limits, pipeline, our own curfew and crawling, the new wildwood flower (rock version), red river rock, sail along silvery moon, and many more...

After Mell Taylor's death his son took over his place with the Ventures. He drums just like his dad. Possibly the best drummer ever!!!

Leon Taylor. Saw him with Mel and Nokie in, I think, 2012. Great drummer. They did Caravan, Mel would have been proud.

Used to have 2 drummers nack in the day. It was epic. Live in Port Hueneme, & they still bust a show occassionally locally.

I hate to say it but i liked Mel's original playing in the 60's on the little 4 piece drum set with one ride cymbal and hi-hat. Kind of surprising that he maintained playing traditional grip when most rock drummers use match. It goes to show you that having a huge drum set does not make you a better drummer. I think the 1965 Japan concert was way better.
