This is perfect! This would be great for musicians who have hearing impairment. I have a combo of hearing issues, auditory processing and hearing loss. Some music pieces I do have issues with keeping in time in particular, the lower notes where my hearing impairment lies. Metronomes are distracting to me because of the auditory processing disorder. Thank you so much for doing a video on this. 😁 This would be great for figure skaters with hearing impairment as well. I figure skater.

You can use a vibrating watch during a music performance and it acts as a conductor in an orchestra. The main issue with using a metronome is after listening to the ticking sound for a while, your brain hear echoes and you're not 100% sure the main beat.

This was a very good advice. I have work hard with rythm and often said, ”I cant feel the rythm” So I have worked hard with the metronome, it is a really useful tool. But I love this watch, it was a completely new feeling. And it was comforting to hear Im not the only one who say ”i cant feel the rythm. Very surprising is the fact that when I play simple chords on the guitarr and sing with the preschoolchildren at work. The beat is no problem. But at the piano……..its hard. Thank you for showing this tool.

I leaned to mix records and beat-match varied tempos by ear and noticed I always was TAPPING a FOOT. It took a month or two for things to "click" and it was a really a pain (train-wreck city haha) ....but it did help develop a skill in its own right that I think helps as I learn piano 15 years later. I think all the rhythmic muscle memory we form over all the things we do with our bodies - tapping fingers and feet to music and singing or whistling along, dancing, playing sports/video games ect. - we put our whole mid-body in rhythmic time that flows right into all applied musical practices. It is all connected. Pretty awesome! Also this metronome looks brilliant! Great Channel Jazer!!

I loathe the clicking sound of the metronome since it is super distracting for me; however, ever since i bought the watch I actually enjoy practicing more cuz it keeps me in beat and the music doesnt kinda “rush thru” or slow down suddenly due to me forgetting to count hahaha. So I'd always thought i was bad at keeping time, to the extent that i was talking about it with a friend who's actually pretty decent at the musics and such. We worked on some stuff and when he would count i had no issues, but when i go to clicks, forcing me to do the counting 2 things happen, 1 i get filled with nervous energy and tend to go way to fast or make mistakes, and when I'm doing something i tend to think about the thing I'm doing and really struggle counting and thinking the thing I'm doing at the same time. Simple strumming a guitar isn't so bad cause it's just 1 2 3 c 1 2 3 a, but with piano it really ties my head in a knot counting and thinking about what I'm doing. Since I'd still have to count with vibrations I'm not sure if this would help. It really eased my nervous energy when my friend counted and he even said i had no problems with keeping time in that scenario. I dunno, it's the single most frustrating part of music so far. I'm doing good on reading and playing things, just that pesky count haha.

I had no idea something like this existed. I've gotten a lot better at playing in time, but a common problem I have is I inevitably start rushing as I continue playing. So the latter half of a whole piece will probably be noticeably faster than the former portion. This problem has gotten a lot better over the last year, but it's still pretty noticeable at times. I've tried following along with a metronome but my brain just doesn't get it. When I try to play along with one, I am focusing way too hard on anticipating the clicks instead of focusing on playing. Even when I'm running through something I've played a hundred times over, it just doesn't work. Ironically I play _worse_ than if I just played without one. This is mostly because when I play, I "feel" the pulse and try to accentuate it at certain points within phrases. But "feeling" the pulse can be wildly different from person to person, hence the need for a metronome. You don't know your internal clock is way off until you have something to compare it to. In my case, I can tell my internal clock has seriously improved since the very early days. But it still needs improvement, particularly when dealing with sections that have lots of 8th or 16th notes. I would like to be able to practice stuff like this with a proper beat-keeping device, and I think I finally found a viable solution. I've also been looking for a proper smart watch for the last few months now, so having one that doubles as a metronome would be really cool. Thanks for the product demo!

Hello, I have a question about the watch. I dance salsa kubana and have a problem keeping the rhythm. Can I use this watch for this? Does it determine the rhythm on its own based on the song or how can I determine it myself without feeling the rhythm? and in salsa there are 8 bars - 1 short, 2 short, long 3-4, 5 short, 6 short, 7-8 long. Can I set this up so that it is easier for me to stop, especially the pauses? Thanks

Or, as a very low tech solution, you can simply tap your foot! I was having problems with a Händel piece and my teacher suggested this. Back in the baroque period, the conductor kept the beat by banging a huge wooden baton on the floor, leading, for example, to the unfortunate demise of Jean Baptiste Lully, who impaled his own foot and died of an infection. If you tap your foot hard enough (keeping the front of the foot on the floor and tapping with your heel), you can also physically feel the beat, as with your vibrating watch. Advantage: no cost and no batteries or charger cable required!

I wish I'd watched a few more reviews before buying the Core Steel. I was super enthusiastic for this, being a guitarist. But, I've found so many flaws with it from both a conceptual and practical angle. Firstly, I went for the Steel so that I'd have a watch I could just wear. In reality, it doesn't feel like a watch I'd use all day. It's not particularly comfortable, and it's not especially well featured beyond basic notifications, time, and the metronome feature. The additional cost for the Steel is really not worth it. Now, the metronome - a pianist might have a different experience, but as a guitarist, I put it on my left arm. I then found that my wrist points down while fretting. This meant that the watch hangs down beneath your arm while playing. If it is then not on really tight you cannot feel the pulse as it is not in contact with you. Of course, having it tight on your wrist then starts to restrict your tendon movement - not great when you are trying to play quickly. So, I tried it on my right arm. Better, but still not great as it needs to be on tight. Maybe fine for pick players, but again not great for finger style if you need that dexterity. So, next I tried upper arm. After a length of time it either slipped down or if I tightened it up became uncomfortable quite quickly. Next I tried it on my upper leg. Same problem, it needs to be on tight to transmit a pulse strong enough to feel over your instrument. Lastly, I tried the body strap. The only place that felt 'useful' to me was to have it right on my collar bone. There it could be slightly looser, but I'm guessing it works because it was largely cooperating with gravity. Next - practically problems. The contact tuner is not great. I bought the extra magnets and made the mistake of sticking on to a beloved guitar. Don't do it - regardless of what they claim it is not easy to remove and can damage the finish of your instrument. On top of that the tuner response is below par. I have used other contact tuners, and all have performed better than the Core. I am quite technical, but still had massive trouble synching with Logic Pro on the Mac. Had to run through the setup a few times before I could see the Core in the Midi devices. After some teething problems I managed to get the pulse synching with my project tempo. BUT - I found a flaw. The temp sync ONLY works correctly if you run your track from the very start. Not great if you want to over record parts later in your project. I also found that if you have repeat cycle turned on, the pulse is suddenly one beat out of sync with your project. The delay might actually be an arbitrary amount, but I found between 80 and 120 bpm it seemed to be one beat out after each repeat. I've not tried it with tempo changes in the project yet. Another issue - the double tap to start is fine, but having triple tap do a tap-tempo is REALLY annoying. The number of times I have tapped once to wake the watch, then twice to start the tempo and it has read it as a tap-tempo and set my tempo to some random number. I really would like the option to turn off tap-tempo. I pretty much always want to pick a specific tempo. This is a really irritating and time wasting feature. Finally - Soundbrenner told me that they endeavour to ship from stock in your own country. I ordered in the UK. They have stock showing on their Amazon UK account. I emailed them before ordering and they said if they don't ship from UK they would repay and duties and taxes incurred as a result of shipping from outside the UK. I placed the order and saw that they had shipped from the USA. I emailed them again and was promised that I just need to email them the fees invoice and they would repay the costs. They acknowledged receipt of my email for costs, but to date have not refunded my additional fees as promised. This means that I paid a lot more than $300 - more like $460. This watch is worth nothing like that amount! So - if you are outside of the USA, I'd recommend not buying - they lured me in with a promise that they reneged on. In short, I'll probably be using the 30 day money back guarantee - but I'll be out of pocked for shipping costs. I think they should be paying that, since their product really doesn't live up to their claims, so this is a clear case of mis-selling. Luckily I bought on my Visa Credit, so I have some additional buyer protection - so Visa can chase them for the money back on my behalf.

None of the Apple Watch haptic metronomes I tried are any good. Anyone find a decent one? Tried haptik, Pulse, BPM, and Click. Either the haptics are too weak, the beat is not steady when you move your hand, or the app just stops working. There’s something about the design of the Apple Watch that prevents a proper haptic metronome app to be written. A device dedicated to this functionality seems to be the way to go like the one recommended in this video although I’ve yet to try it.

I’m actually really struggling to get the hang of it. Maybe it’s just my Bluetooth connection, but it seems to have a slight delay between the visual beat on the app and the vibration on the phone. It’s really frustrating.

I find a drum machine helps me when playing guitar, yet to try it on piano. Like many others, I simply dislike the clock ticking of most metronomes. The vibrating wrist watch is a brilliant idea, but a little expensive.

Hi, I think it´s a great opcion. I´d like to share something that I learn in a music drummers school in London (DRUMTECH). I learned one technique they called the INNER CLOCK, is a great way to keep the tempo, but a little less mechanical o robothic. I´m a drummer and always had the problem in any band that i played, I mean everybody thinks that the man in the drums is a human metronome. As you can imagine this is a poor thought. That kind a musicians do not have the sense to improvise as a team. Thanks to read.

So what is the technique?

@@solideomusical Hi, it´s no easy to explain in a few lines, but I´ll try. It is basically tat you have to capture the metronome pulse, almost like a Hipnotism. Trying to use or get something as you heart beat. And then you have to apply and everything you do, not just in music, but when you walk, or breath, or speak or make every different action. OK

Wow! Watch costs $429 for me on Amazon Canada! There are cheaper version with less features. I think it will work for me. I used to rely on my piano teachers to count beats but now I’m on my own. I am ok for pieces where I once studied under a teacher but new pieces are a challenge. I am currently playing around with Ketelby’s In a Persian Market, you would think the counting is easy right? Huh….I need that watch to stop camels from running and the Princess from becoming a funeral. I keep telling myself that I am playing for pure pleasure, I don’t have to take exams, so, actually no need to keep time as long as the piece sounds right. Huh….nah….I will try and find money to buy a cheaper version of it.
