The Vicar of Dibley was the absolutely best sitcom that ever came out over the air, in any country, and at any time. It is so far ahead of the dribble produced here in the United States that there can be no valid comparison. I've watched many of these episodes. Alice captures us all. When you consider the range of topics covered in this comedy, and the emotional journey it takes you on, it always surprises me to read that there are only 20 episodes. The only other comedy I can think of that has the same level of emotional depth and range is Only Fools and Horses, and that ran for 64 episodes in comparison, which is much more time to flesh everything out. It even manages to be appealing to people who aren't necessarily religious. The Vicar of Dibley really managed to take comedy and fuse it with a heart in a way no other comedy has done before or since imo.
