She is not vicious,she is scared & maybe in pain. She warned you enough times to not touch her in certain areas but you insisted,therefore she lashed out. Takes a while for them to trust us & that has to be earnt,patience is really important. Keep feeding her & she will learn to trust you in her own time. She is a beautiful fur baby,shame she is on the streets,awful that any of them are to be honest but if you can help them with food & kindness then that's great. God bless you for feeding them.

Her body language didn't like it when you started petting her on the head. She was fine and relaxed when you scratched her neck but when you got to her head, her tail started going crazy- giving away that she didn't like it. Most cats don't usually like getting pets on the head, or usually just tolerate it. Always look for signs on the tail and body.

You may mean well but you clearly don't understand cat etiquette and the need for it to be very careful with people who just charge in with rough petting even though it's showing agitation. that was dog-handling. Cats need to know who you are, sniff your scent, determine whether you're friend or foe. Let them make the first friendy move. I suggest you learn the difference between friendly and aggressive from a small and vulnerable animal's point of view. It started fine but you charged in, offered your hand as bait - lots to learn and you won't end up with shredded hands and arms.

This is VERY important and I saw NO ONE say it but when you get scratched by a stray cat ALWAYS ALWAYS wash the cut or disinfect it. If you get scratched by any cat even a cat you know wash and disinfect the cuts. Cat's carry all kinds of bacteria under the claws. They use their claws for everything so it makes sense.

This is exactly why I'm reluctant to approach stray cats, even if they don't run away. I don't go to cats, but cats come to me. I don't rub cats with my hand, but rather cats rub my hand. When I pet a cat, the cat is in charge of how I pet them. The cat decides what parts of their body they want me to touch. I simply stick my hand out and just let them rub against it. I don't pet cats the way I pet dogs; they are more sensitive to touches and less obedient than dogs.

I got bitten and scratched by a cat at my Study Abroad College, I wasn’t provoking it, I was just walking around the campus, but a cat named Pip came out of nowhere wanted to say hi. However couple seconds later he decided to scratch me and bite my leg, but I wasn’t severely hurt, it was a little scratch and I wasn’t bleeding. It does hurt when I got scratched, this is the reason why I don’t like cats when they scratch and bite.
