It took 6 years for my feral to accept me. Now I can pick him up and cuddle him, and he knows he’s safe with me. He gets pets, treats, an insulated garage to sleep at night, with food, water, treats, 3 camp lanterns for lighting during the day when he stays in during the rare rainy day and a clean litter box far from his sleeping area, several choices of cushy bedding, and house privileges when hubby isn’t home yet. Free to run/escape when I attempted to approached and he watched from a distance when Im outside and did yard work. And it’s the same present day, except now at sunset, or when he knows I’m home, he waits at the back sliding door, asking to come inside. I earned his trust with patience and food/shelter/water/safe haven. He has a 2nd generation kitty tube outside to add shelter in, but he prefers to sleep in the garage at night - where he has food/water/clean litter box and many cushy places to sleep in. In the mornings, I open the side door to let him outside while I clean the garage litter box; he has ample time/opportunity to leave, but he chooses to stay inside. I understand you post from ignorance. Unless you’ve earned the trust of a feral animal, you would mistakenly assume it’s SS. Feral creatures survive by avoiding human contact, having no trust in mankind. You make no sense when you say my feral boy “gave up”

How Shadow ended up so trustworthy and loving... makes me miss my Smokey who passed away February 2016. He was the most best son I've ever had! He was always my personal shadow and followed me everywhere 24/7. He'd wake me up everyday at 4am on the dot by meowing right in front of my face for me to feed him, and he'd cry and cry whenever I'd be in the rr or go outside the house without him. Till this day I still can't find the strength nor the heart to replace him. I grew up a dog person and disliked cats until this one kept at it and kept at it until he won me over. Best gift from God I've ever received...so sad since. Thanks for showing such an amazing video. Brings back memories of my baby boy. 😢🐱

Your heart has love in it obviously, so I encourage you to share your love.....you will benefit as much as your new family member. 💗

I see that your comment was from 1yr ago (about your kitty passing away). You said that you didn't have the heart to "replace him". I am praying that by now your heart has healed & that you have come to realize that you Never, ever can "replace" them, you just open your heart up to help another sweet soul in Desperate need of a loving home. You do it in honor of the life & the love of that pet, never as to "replace" that pet. And I can honestly wholeheartedly tell you that your kitty would not want you to be without the love & companionship of another kitty who needs a home. Obviously we need to grieve our beloved fur-babies & for some people they need to wait a while, & for others they need to adopt again right away to help ease the tremendous grief of the loss, by opening their heart up to loving another pet. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, it's all a Very personal experience. I personally know the pain & heartache of losing too many of my cats over the years, & just lost 4 literally in a row & it's been extremely hard to deal with. As a life long rescuer in my community, I have often found another poor abandoned kitten(s) or cat(s) on the streets right after one of mine had died, & in my mind, finding another rescue was Not something I thought I wanted nor needed, but, there was that poor little face staring up at me begging for help, & of course I could Not, not help them! Opening my heart with love & compassion for that new rescue DID help my heart to heal from the intense grief I felt. I hope you will consider opening your heart & home & adopting another kitty. You can always "dip your toe in the water" by offering to be a foster for a kitten(s), cat(s) in need. And when it's the right time, & the right kitty... You WILL know, & your beloved kitty that has crossed over will likely lead you to whom you're meant to share your life with. Take care & be well. 🫂

She clearly wasn't actually feral. She meows, which feral cats do not know to do. She clearly had a human at some point, but has been living on her own for some time and had to harden up. Perhaps she has also suffered at the hands of people and was skittish for that reason. She acts the way I expect my younger, scaredy cat would act of he escaped. Because he hissy and scared of someone else, even though he is loved and well cared for by us. Other people terrify him. I think he has anxiety....

I have to agree that all cats need patience, love and trust. Our two were rescued, and we don't know what happened to them before. They are now very affectionate, in their own way, but won't tolerate being picked up. They each come and sit on our laps, but only when they want to. The male one comes and sits on my chest when I am watching a film on my tablet, especially if there is birdsong on the soundtrack. The female just decides to sit on you sometimes, when she feels like it. I like the way they are independent, would hate if they were easy to train. They are all different, like most mammals.

It took alot of patience and love to get her to come out of her shell, but she finally did, and now she's just a big love bug! I'm so glad I took her in, because the pay off for me is her returned affection for me. She's just the sweetest lil girl and I love her so so much! Allowing ferals to remain feral isn’t ‘giving up on them’. Once they are spayed and vaccinated, they are better off and happier remaining feral. Forcing them to conform to our idea of domestication is actually quite selfish and egocentric.

My cat was like this when we first got her. Me and my partner went to a rescue and asked for them for a cat that nobody wanted. So they brought out a female tortoiseshell that hissed and scratched and bit everyone that went near her. About as feral as feral can be. 3 months later, she began to relax. We could stroke her. Play with her. Eventually, she turned into the sweetest and most affectionate cats I've ever known. My partner and I went on to have two kids, who she watched over like a guard dog lol. Not one scratch, not one single bite. Ever. The transformation was incredible. The people at the shelter couldn't believe how much she had improved. Unfortunately, she passed away two years ago now. She lived to the age of 14. We think about her all the time. One of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

My take as a former rescuer: This was not a feral cat to begin with. She was a stray. Feral cats clean themselves and keep their kittens clean. Strays don't know how to stay clean on the streets. Adult ferals usually do not become domesticated but their kittens can if taken in young. And um, that was not a ferocious cat at all. One of the feral cats I adopted (she never made it to the adoption center -- too wild -- I got her directly from the trapper) bit and bloodied at least three veterinarians and techs during her years with me. I had to pick my vets based on who was okay with suiting up for visits. My beautiful insane crazy Autumn didn't become a good patient until she was about 12 years old. She lived till almost 21 years old. But that first day when I drove home with her, she screamed and howled like a horror movie, and I started to turn right around to bring her back. Seriously I only persevered because she was a gorgeous teeny 6 month tortie. And I still love her, Rest In Peace.
