Speaking as someone who's not a massive fan of Sanji (please note I still like him, it's just that I think the entire Straw Hat crew are fantastic, and there's always gonna be a last place in every group), this moment *fucked*. It was a genuinely wonderful character moment for him to see him actually ask Robin for help, and basically as soon as Onigashima began I got a nice reminder of all the stuff about Sanji that initially made me like him as a character so much. Thriller Bark/Sabaody to just after Fishman Island kinda took away a lot of the stuff I really liked about the guy, but basically the minute he met Viola, the dude began swinging for the fucking fences.

I think it's a question that perfectly represents how people can differently see Zoro and Sanji's relationship and their characters. They bicker and fight, but they still respect each other and care for other's well being. That's just how some friendships are. I personally think Zoro would be upset, but not at the fight specifically (since he also was about to fight Luffy in Whiskey Peak, due to a misunderstanding). Zoro is not stupid, he would figure out that Sanji had his reasons. I think he would be irritated at what the reasons were. Just like when he got the information in Zou, he would be mad, but still back off until he can get the whole view on the situation. He wouldn't fight or want to kill Sanji, like some like to say. Anyway, thanks for listening to my yapping haha

I strongly agree, I think zoro is emotionally smart enough to assess the situation before immediately fighting sanji, also if zoro seen luffy not fighting back in the first place what sense would it make for zoro to start attacking him? Luffy may be dumb at times but he can read people perfectly and I think zoro understands this, so ultimately I think he’d stay back until luffy gave him a go ahead or until he fully realized what sanji was doing it for. The take that people say zoro would immediately attack sanji for hurting his captain just sounds like the most meat head thing zoro could ever do, just attack first and ask questions later without even trying to figure out a reason in his head as to why he would be doing something so extreme to luffy in the first place. I’d like to think zoro is more intelligent than that especially knowing it’s sanji of all people.

Sanji isn’t a perv as far as I’ve seen, he’s a simp, he’s doing everything he can to get girls to fall in love with him and the only timeshe’s ever really been pervy is in his raid suit and when he switches bodies with Nami. Other than that, he’s just treating himself like a doormat for women but he won’t ever touch them, even if his life depends on it. He is so afraid of hurting his friends that he tells Zoro to kill him if he loses control. And people still talk down on him. Also, after Usopp and Robin return after leaving the crew, Nami accepts them with no hesitation, but when she sees Sanji again after WCI, you can tell how much it affected her that he left, and the way she smiled when he caught her, shows the possibility of something in the future.

I feel like Zoro would have a different reaction to Sanji fighting Luffy than Usopp, mainly because Usopp left of his own accord due to insecurity, not only that but he challenged Luffy which Zoro did not like, meanwhile in Sanji’s case he’s being blackmailed by his scumbag family, risking pissing off a yonko on her own island, imo the most dangerous yonko too Zoro would be mad but not because Sanji beat up Luffy, but because of the Vinsmokes and Charlotte pirates trying to break up the crew and keeping Luffy from the pirate king title, plus he knows swirly brows wouldn’t just leave the crew

Both left due to insecurities, BUT Ussop's decision was purely selfish while Sanji's was just calculated "I see no better alternative, and even letting them be dragged into this might cost someone their live". Hell, Zoro even agreed with him and said to leave him because they can't fight against two Yonkou at the same time. Zoro knows that Sanji is smart, and if he couldn't figure out some non combat way to deal with problem, Zoro wasn't willing to risk everyone to beat their way out of it.

I hate how people always shit on the Black Maria Moment, despite it being a HUGE character moment for both him and Robin. Black Maria is his (and my) biggest weakness; His chivalry and likely newely developed mommy kink between her and Shinobu. Normally he’d sacrifice himself, but by this point in the story thanks to WCI, he’s realized he has worth. So he calls out to the crew member who’s experienced a very similar situation to him; Robin. Robin’s had to rely on people her whole life, and now that someone’s asking her for help, it fills her with great joy.

For WCI, if Zoro was there, I think he would know immediately that something is seriously wrong. Especially if Sanji didn’t respond to banter and gave him the same cold look he gave Nami. The Luffy/Sanji fight maybe wouldn’t have happened because I think Zoro would have advised they back off and leave Sanji alone. If Luffy insisted on a fight, then Zoro would do nothing. He’d struggle to witness it, but he’d understand.

@@getpape4126 Zoro isn’t some terminator who only cares about Luffy and no one else. He does value loyalty, but he’s still an autonomous character with his own interpersonal relationships. Not just Luffy’s guard dog. Sanji and Zoro have a close relationship; I think he would know just by looking at Sanji that something isn’t right. Zoro would know/understand that Sanji isn’t coming back right now. It’s not a battle he can win. What would he accomplish by beating the shit out of Sanji at that moment anyway? If you don’t believe in Sanji and Zoro’s closeness, then at very least you believe that Zoro respects Luffy’s decisions. If Luffy insisted on fighting Sanji like he did; Zoro would stand down because that’s captain’s orders. At worst, the aftermath would be Zoro punching Sanji later at their reconciliation. Threatening him to never do that again.

There are very few characters who understand Sanji, but Zoro is one of them (in order we go Robin, Brook and Zoro with Luffy somewhere in this lineup tho he works on vibes so it's harder to pin him). You mentioned how Skypea has Sanji's Nothing Happened moment, and it's true, but Thriller Bark could have been Sanji's 2nd Nothing Happened moment if Zoro hadn't understood Sanji. And it's something a lot of people tend to forget. The reason Zoro prevents Sanji from doing it is that Sanji has low self esteem and suicidal tendencies and Zoro respects his strength but doesn't trust his will to fight his issues off and come back to the crew. It's Zoro's duty to protect the crew yes, but in this case he wasn't protecting Sanji from Kuma, he was protecting Sanji from himself. There are also no reasons for him to be mad at Sanji for kicking Luffy. Just like he wasn't mad at Usopp for the fight (if anything he was almost mad at Luffy for almost saying something he'd have regretted, which Sanji stopped). What Usopp needed to apologize for was what basically amounted to mutiny which Sanji did not do as he was basically just leaving. It's paralleled to Robin's leaving actually and Zoro didn't have her apologize because she was trying to protect them and was forced to leave. Oda has been paralleling Robin and Sanji more than any two characters in One PIece like nobody's business and no subtelty and people still find the way to parallel it with any other situation than the one that's almost a 1:1 ratio of parallelism. Don't get me wrong there are tons of parallels with Usopp, especially since Water 7/enies Lobby put the Robin/Sanji/Usopp parallelisms on the forefront but this specific turn of event is basically a Robin/Sanji parallel with droplets of Usopp within it.

I'm sorry I know its part of odas writing, but can I just say that Sanji has so much more potential, than oda allows and its really frustrating, even in the current ark. My guess is that Zoro and Sanji bicker a lot cause 1. They recognize the other's strength 2. They wanna battle fully head on, like a battle b0n3r. Hard, and fully. If for no other reason than they are THAT close together in sheer skill and power.
