Shawn, I farm a thousand acres in the Willamette Valley. Moles are a huge issues. Last fall I caught over 200 of these varmits using the victor traps. One bit of advice that really helped was cycling the jaws in the hole three or four times so they can clamp down quicker and you know for sure there is no rocks to get stuck in the jaws. The other tip is to really pack the soil under the trigger assembly. The harder they dig the better the chances of them setting the trap off. Good videos keep them up! I did buy some gopher hawks off your last videos.

The only trap to guarantee mole kill. Works 100% when set properly. Don't make the hole wider than the trap.Otherwise it can come up along side of the trap. And allow enough room for the bail to release. I always push dirt back into the run, then make a mound for the trigger to sit on and cover with a 5 gallon metal pail or cardboard box. Thanks Shawn for highlighting this.

Thanks for the video. I have used these traps for a couple years now and they are the best solution on the market I have found! Recommend. Couple thoughts on this video that are important" * USE GLOVES - Moles can smell human sweat/scent * The area under the release trigger should be a firm built up "bridge". The mole must displace enough soil to push that trigger up. * Release can be set "hair-trigger" - sometimes this is optimal * Cover trap with soil AND a bucket to ensure no light

This one appears to work well. The down side is the amount of effort required to set and also the destruction to an area of lawn. I recall my great grandfather using a plunger based trap. No mess, no fuss, easy to set and use again elsewhere. The added benefit is that the mole gets to become worm food.

I bought one of these traps last year and was only able to get one good set. Unfortunately, the tunnel I chose was not active any longer and I did not catch any. I'll try it again. I have had pretty good success with the Victor Plunger style mole traps. The new ones are a bit finicky as far as setting the trigger (doesn't want to fully engage the pan like the old style), but they still produce results. Thanks for the video Shawn.

@jefffrayer8238

Sorry Shawn but you sure do it the hard way. I just cave in the tunnel down where the trigger goes. With the trap set use your forefinger pushing down on the trigger while using your other hand to push the trap into into the ground using a rocking motion. The palm of your hand is pushing down on the top of trap where that safety is. Super easy, safe and fast. Done it that way for 20 yrs. Forget all that digging stuff. Also paint the trap red so it doesn't get lost, driven or stepped on. I have used several designs and this one is the best, most reliable by far. Always keep fingers away from those jaws! Great Video.
@shang616
@shang616 4 ай бұрын
There’s a less intrusive way of using this trap. You only need to make two cuts perpendicular to the tunnel with the width of the trap, collapse the tunnel, set the trap, and wait for the mole to trigger the trap. Once the mole is caught, wait to make sure the mole is dead, leave the dead mole in the tunnel, and remove the trap. With this approach , the lawn recovers quickly. No replanting of grass is needed. I’ve killed dozens of moles this way in my 1-acre yard.

Have you tried the plastic trap from Home Depot? It has very similar jaws but the trigger works a little differently, and you can conveniently set it by stepping on top of it. But I'm not sure if it can be set that deep, that trap seems to be designed more for the tunnels near the surface, and the moles in NW seem to like to dig deep.

I use the same trap for moles in my yard with great success. It's a great design. I set it up a bit differently. I don't have to dig holes. I just step and flatten a section of tunnel and then push the jaws into the ground around the tunnel and the trigger remains above ground . When the mole passes under it triggers the trap. Maybe the moles in my state don't tunnel as deep. BTW keep up the videos. My kids always want to know if there is a new mouse trap Monday on to watch.

Shawn Woods have you looked into the rodenator? They are not cheap but are super effective and fun to use :) i have one and love it for my hay fields it does a great job on moles... If you are ever north of seattle let me know you are welcome to make a video with it.
