Both cool chatelaines. Off the top of my head, I would guess at the time if you were wearing one would indicate you worked for a living. So this would mean that a chatelaine would be roughly the equivalent of a trademans tool belt and pouch.

I sometimes think of my giant keychain as my modern chatelaine. It has my keys, a pocketknife, a measuring tape, a tiny flashlight, and a zippered pouch that holds a reusable shopping bag. And when I’m out of the house, I wear it clipped to a belt loop with a carabiner.

Your chatelaine collection is off to a wonderful start! I am quite envious (the only time I saw a vintage one, it got sold out from under me - sigh); I am so glad that you got the one you found! The only thing it needs now is a scissors hook? Probably not what it's called, but that little chain that you can hang your sewing scissors on. Thank you for showing us your treasures!

If you haven’t been yet, you are going to love Vaux. It inspired Versailles but a more manageable size. My room has a gorgeous photo my dad took on a blustery day with dark skies and the palace is illuminated. I love Vaux

That flat container with the lid held bee's wax. They used to run thread through the wax to strengthen it and prevent fraying when they did hand sewing.

Is the big, empty container meant to hold a fabric tape measure by any chance? I ask because it looks a lot like the shape of the retractable tape measure I carry in my bag for taking measurements when I’m thrifting.
