Tom Hanks is astoundingly articulate. He obviously brings his intelligence to his craft and makes it art.

I think we were shown a different view of combat that we had never seen. The sound of bullets whizzing by. The sound that bullets make when hitting the human body. The radio guy at the seawall with his face a gaping hole. The guy picking up his own arm. I think two films lead to the look of combat. One was braveheart the other was combat scene in Forrest Gump. We hadn’t seen tracers before. We hadn’t seen blood on the camera .

I could see Braveheart but idk how you choose Forrest Gump over much more realistic portrayals in 80s films like Platoon or Full Metal Jacket. There was tracers in Platoon, the first movie Dale Dye was a part of(He also trained the actors in this).

The movie is loaded with mistakes but I love it. I started reading about D-Day after seeing the movie and they got the horror of the landing right. In fact, it was even worse than shown.

Hmmm.... interesting. If you don't mind telling what other things you find problems in the movie? Just curious.

Yeah it went on for hours in real life

@@arslanbaig1943 I wouldn't call them problems. For me, anyway. Off hand, the scene where they're walking across the field after Vin Diesel is killed. There was one too many. There are sites online where you can find lists. Still a great movie! 😀

It's very interesting how Barbara shoots a glare at Meredith for improvising her introduction of The movie.

At the start I was thinking why there were so many young ladies in the audience and thought if Tom Hanks was considered a womanizer back in the days. At the end the host mentions Matt Damon and I thought „Oh of course!“

This is the truth--this is all hollywood--my father (101) knew the Chaplain who went into Normandy and brought Pvt. Ryan out without any of what you see here with this movie, although I agree, as an advocate for WWII Veterans, this was an important tool to educate---most touching scene, which was real, was when the mother got 3 notices in one day about three of her sons being KIA--GOD BLESS THIS GENERATION
