Let's say that you owned, a big and beautiful property. It's a green, grassy meadow, with flowers blooming and butterflies flying around. You were the one to discover this place, and by all rights, it belongs to you, and you only. Having full jurisdiction over this place, and it being so precious, you declare it sacred.
Then, some dudes decide to trespass, squat down in the meadow, and take a fat, steaming dump.
On your property.
What would you do?
What would the Vikings have done?
Well, in this video, drawing from the Icelandic Sagas, we'll learn just what they did, and how a Blood Feud started between two families...over where it was OK, to go to the toilet.

These days untouched nature is so rare I fully understand the rage that comes when someone then goes and shits on it 🙄

Great narration and images! And a fun/interesting topic, I find the most fascinating parts of history are the everyday details.

Scaring away the elves... LOL. This is the side of human history, I find more interesting than kings and wars. BTW: Do I hear the Skyrim theme in the background, or am I still playing too much Skyrim?

Crazy how reducing poverty and making people relatively healthy and safe reduces the need for violence and defensiveness

"docile" is one way to put it haha but to keep peace takes often more strength than to wage war. every true warrior yearns for the day their weapons can be planted into trees. and this peace was not easy to craft and the men who crafted it are in my opinion stronger than those who waged the war before it started.

Silly concept: Icelandic settlers "going to the toilet" a thousand years before the first modern toilet was invented. In those days they simply squatted and defecated.

The modern English phase: "He is a badass, he doesn't take any shit!" Applies to this topic. Early urban Londoners would dump their human waste wherever they could, rather than walk far to the Thames. But if the property was owned by a man with a reputation, he was known as a man who "doesn't take any shit." If the property owner was a wimp, people dumped their buckets of shit into this yard. Your thoughts?

I'd say these stories stayed the same in general points/theme. But stories like this also tend to be told alongside food/drink, embellishing it to suit audience/mood. A lot of Irish folk lore is also pretty earthy, at times. And just like some saga's those earthy elements get played up for laughs if the drink is flowing. Would they have the same issues with the "substance" of these tales as the Christian chroniclers? Maybe not, maybe they just told the tale, and some bloke wrote it down. The slide into Christian propaganda tends to be pretty clear. It's a bit like somebody being kicked up the arse is a timeless classic.

KZbin algorithm immediatly notices if I use copyrighted music in my videos and either blocks or demonetizes me, this video is neither because video game music is pretty much never copyrighted or otherwise restricted, because then no one would be able to make streams and videos that work as free advertisement for the gaming companies

@@balticempire7244 Hmm, that's interesting. I guess that partly explains why Elder Scrolls music appears so often in KZbin videos...the other being that it's absolutely fantastic!
