At Mediana, just outside Niš (Roman Naissus) in southern Serbia, are the remains of a grand imperial villa used by Constantine and his sons. Check out my other channels, @toldinstone and @toldinstonefootnotes

Wouldn't you love to be able to look back through time and see the palace when it was in its glory?

To you questions - To "look back" and observe through some means, yes. And would probably need a rather advanced translation service (AI-based, employing some large language model?), in case sound and conversations could be picked up. To actually be physically conveyed to the locale, back to that time, a la Doctor Who, probably not.

I really like the pattern on the mosaic.

Wonderful that they’ve done so much to assure this ancient site is preserved.

Awesome. I like the modern roof. They should do that in lots of places of this nature.

The mosaics are great - if you ignore the swastikas 😂 I don't know if you guys are history buffs or not...

Sad that Hitler POS ruined that symbol for ever…
@solinvictus396 ай бұрын
Swastikas are a common motif in ancient Europe. I laugh when certain people claim that the Nazis "stole" it from the Indians or Buddhists. The Greeks and Romans put swastikas on lots of things and it was also used by other ancient European peoples like the Germans and the Celts.
@chadplow8246 ай бұрын
No, the swastikas are one of the things that make it great. If you were an actual history buff you wouldn't have any preconditioned negative feelings towards a symbol that dates back well over 10,000 years in European culture.

Although Constantine was 'Great', he was never a saint unless you're Eastern Orthodox. He was a mad sinner.
