We travelled to the northern most village of India, to better understand the story of a village that lost its country.
One morning in December 1971, the people of Turtuk and the surrounding villages, woke up just like any other day. They got ready for work, for school, to visit families unassuming that this, for many of them, would be the last day they would see their loved one.
In a space of a few hours, a military offensive by the Indian army was launched an area of 800 square miles was captured from Pakistan and became India. In the midst of it all, putting politics aside, the local villagers where displaced and separated from their families.
We travelled to TurTuk to understand this story better and see how the Baliti people of the region are living today.

Dont you think you are making a political statement by mentioning homeland is pakistan? You shouldnt have mentioned that, when you dont know the real past. As per Indians whole pakistan was India territory.. past is past.. it happens.. Anyways enjoy rest of your journey! Bdw, why do you stay in UK, the country who seperated India and Pakistan soul?

We know the real past as we’ve studied it. Fact is that 1971 it was Pakistan, then it wasn’t. But it is what it is. We were born in the UK and now travel the world.

@@FieldofVisions it can be.. before 1947 whole pakistan was India. Wasn’t a real fact bro? Let us not fight unnecessarily, we were same blood once. Just remember that, it was britishers who separated us. If you want to spread peace and love, kindly avoid political statements. Everyone have different opinions of partition, partition the real home land with names India and pakistan, it happened. Its a fact. Now we are in 21st century, spread peace and love. Thanks! @@FieldofVisionsWe had to part the land where our civilization originated, the Indus valley, Indu/Sindhu from where the term Hindu and India originates. Had to part that land in the name of religion and that was and still is even more painful. Also the native Buddhist people along the silk route from Ladakh to Balatistan upto Bamiyan were converted and their monuments were destroyed, now generations have passed the pain has been forgotten and their identity has been lost forever. So it all depends on which part of the timeline you are looking at.

taking others land is not what India does it is Pakistan's habit. they are illegally occupying will give gilgit baltistan, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir and kpk. when in 1971 during operation searchlight Pakistan killed 3 million Bangladeshi and brutalised 400000 women in 9 months it was India who fought for Bangladesh freedom made Bangladesh free country but in return India never never take and inch of land from Bangladesh. Indian Army reclaimed 13500 sq kilometers of gilgit baltistan which is india's during 1971 war but gave it back to Pakistan occupation because of USA and western countries pressure. in addition in 2015 border agreement India gave 42 sq km of its own land to Bangladesh to resolve Enclave enclave issue between two countries.

Whole of pakistanis which keep on quoting UNSC resolution conveniently ignoring shimla pact should see UNSC consider pakistani a aggressor who illegally occupied territories of J & K . So if it was pakistani territory according to you where are the documents to validate that claim . You don't have an answer for that and i fully expect a boring emoji in response if you ever consider to do so . Damn delulu is the only slolulu for pakistanis irrespective of where they make their living

Entire state of Jammu and Kashmir including the parts occupied by Pakistan acceded legally to India by the instrument of accession. Pakistan attacked and took control of some parts illegally. So they came back to their own country, one day all of J&K will and people will be reunited with their families again. ❤️

I'll give you a peace of suggestion and stick in your mind for the rest of your life. Whatever belong to India is infinitely and for eternity always will be a Indian territory. The other life's fact is that what India consider its region and has its target set will eventually become as India territory. We Indians never compromise on the integrity of our nation and we are extremely proud wherever we live in this world. Enjoy your trip to India!

The war began on December 3, 1971, when Pakistan launched preemptive airstrikes on 11 Indian airbases, which prompted India to officially enter the conflict. I think you really have probably kicked yourself in the foot for future Pakistani travellers. In all honestly , I think anyone of Pakistani origin should not be allowed into these areas. And I imagine the Indian government is taking notice of this story. What you forget is that the 1971 war was started by Pakistan. There are winners and losers in wars.

@@FieldofVisions and a bit more of history lessons, most of the land of the 1971 was returned to Pakistan in the Simla agreement in 1972. This village must have been kept for tactical reasons. But the majority of land was returned. And finally , I am not sure the history taught to Pakistani children is neuatral. And being from the UK myself I know it’s not taught in school here!
