The village where I grew up! Walking tour of Öxabäck in Sweden.

Hi there, "Middle-aged Swede". Thank you for the film and for promoting Öxabäck to the world. We must have met, considering we were there in very much the same period. There was indeed a kiosk near the cross roads, in the 1970:s - early 80:s, and a shooting range for air guns in Bygdegården.

Oh, Öxabäck. I was there often in the 80s and watched soccer. It was at that time that the team was the best team in Sweden.

Thanks for watching! To be honest, I was never that interested in soccer but growing up in Öxabäck in the 80s it wasn't really possibly to ignore it, it was such a huge point of interest for the entire community.

Thanks for the tour of the village where you grew up, that was great! Beautiful church and the placing of it up on that hill makes for a great scenery. I definitely remember Öxabäck women's fotboll team from the sports broadcasting in 80-90s, imagine having such a successfull soccer team from such a relatively small village, impressive. What a thrill that must have been for the people in and around Öxabäck! Overall Öxabäck looks really peaceful and one thing that always strikes me with swedish villages is that when you walk around in residential areas, all the houses and gardens are usually very well maintained. All the grass and plants are cut and watered and houses are complete and painting looks fresh, I like that very much. I can imagine you had a great time in Öxabäck as a kid growing up, calm environment with lots of nature around (forest, fields, lake etc) to go on adventures with friends. One thing I came to think of based on your comments and my own observations from my home village is that playgrounds definitely looks different now compared to 70/80s. The slides, the swings and the sand boxes are gone and now there are usually some things where you can climb etc instead. I guess today's kids want different things or authorities decided to change for some other reason (maintenance cost etc) :)

Yeah, it was a great place to grow up, though to be honest, as someone who was more interested in computers than sports, the soccer talk got a bit to much for me at times :) Luckily, even though it was a small village and in the 80s when computers weren't that common, I still managed to find a few likeminded friends to hang out with. When it comes too all the good looking gardens, as a somewhat lazy person that's been considering getting a small house in a village somewhere, keeping the garden in a good shape to not anger my neighbors is actually one of the parts I'm a bit worried about. It's a good thing there are robot lawn mowers that can at least help with the lawn :)

About the number of inhabitants: 300 must be approximately the number of people living in the church village, that shows in the film. The parish of Öxabäck is a lot bigger, though, and contains many smaller villages. So all together that makes 1000 inhabitants, or a bit less.
