I know it’s a retirement village but it looks so dead. Everything is closed hardly anyone walking around or even driving around. Sparking for myself it would be nice for a couple of weeks to relax but anything longer and I think I’d be bored. Maybe I’m too used to the hustle and bustle of a city. Thanks for sharing.

We got out early every day to walk and film. When possible, I try to keep the camera off people. We weren't there during one of their festivals either. This is also not snowbird season. Their numbers triple during those times. Traffic is so bad people complain about it.

@@TamiDunn I had a feeling it was due to the season. If it had been winter, it probably would have been bustling because people come to escape the cold of the north to these places, just like when I lived in Miami and also in Cape Coral. I was thinking that when a lot of places were closed or seemingly shuttered. I wasn't much a fan of most of the shoppes. I probably would eat my way through (LOL) and then maybe go in one or two places ONCE and then not really have a place to go. I know you said you were surprised there weren't more like you saw in Hamburg, etc. I don't know how those stores would do with this target age group - but you never know. I am 56, and I love Bath & Body Works, etc., and some of those kinds of stores, but I am not into boutiques or stuff like that. I think you're still too young for this place. hehehe Maybe in 10 years? You're so active and young seeming to me as a couple. I am not trying to be ageist, because I am an old goattess, it seems, and I like quiet and want to move to a retirement community myself!

I have a little question. We don't have these "age-restricted" states here in Belgium, so I don't know much about it, and I was just wondering where all the employees come from? The barbers, shopkeepers, garage car mechanics, etc... They can't all be age 55+. So do they get to live inside of The Villages? Or do they live around it? Is there maybe a designated area where only employees get to live with their families? I'm just curious 😄. Another great vlog!

Good question! The Villages being a "55 plus community" means that 80% of the residents must be 55 or older to buy a house. Most residents are retired however some do work in and around The Villages and some work from home. The employees that work in the businesses live in the many cities and rural areas that surround The villages. If you work for a qualifying business and have children, your children are allowed to enroll in The Villages Charter School. The Villages Charter School is an outstanding school to attend.

Thank you soooooo much for your walking tour today and for the videos in The Villages! I am having so much fun. I would definitely have wanted to try Piesanos, even though I know it isn't really quality Italian - more fast casual dining, in my mind - kind of like Fazolis or something really. Most of the time, raviolis come with ricotta cheese - they may have other cheese in it, but especially the "fritta" ones that are fried; I know that in previous videos, Kevin did seem to like Mozzarella sticks when he has had them at places, so I figured he would like them! hehehe I was hoping you'd get that appetizer! That is what I would get. It is a real shame that the garlic rolls were bad. I was shocked when you said cold. I have never seen that before, except if I got something delivered and they just were delivered cold because of a bad restaurant quality control (seemingly every one nowadays delivers things that are not hot by the time they get to me!). It sounds horrible. A hot garlic roll will be "wet" as you say, but because it has garlic and olive oil and it is usually hot and yummy. What a travesty! Did you go to the Prima Italian Steakhouse on your trip? I would love to try that place! Probably expensive but I like to try at least once, right?

It’s good. I love fried Ravioli, so I would have loved that. The pizza looked delicious. I am all about a good crust. If it’s good and the “dead” part is good it’s a winner for me. The bread was maybe designed to be dipped in olive oil & eaten that way. I have never seen it served that way, though. Usually the oil & bread are separate so you can dip at you own pace & taste. I don’t think I could live there. The live stuff I find very unappealing, & everything closing at nine….nope. Very expensive place to live, imo. People either love or hate this place, seems like.
@TamiDunn
@TamiDunn 3 ай бұрын
The bread was wet, cold and almost raw - definitely not my thing. My dad lives in North Carolina had said his Publix closes at 9 as well. I'm sure Walmart stays open later - they all do. We very rarely leave the house after dark. If you don't enjoy listening to music, you don't have to. That was a choice we made because we are music lovers. As far as it being expensive - the restaurants we chose are not a must for everyone. They also have fast food places which are cheaper. There are homes currently for sale for UNDER $150,000 - that's very affordable.

I live in Ocala, FL near The Villages. I have been going there for over 30 years since the first square opened. I could never afford to live there. They have great amenities. I went to Piesano’s here in Ocala years ago. They pour Italian dressing on the rolls and I thought they were awful. I wasn’t crazy about the pizza and have never gone back. I know people who love it though. Our Publix here closes at 10. In the Villages there are bars that stay open until midnight or 1 or 2 am. A lot of non-residents go to the bars there. I have a lot of other comments but am waiting for the wrap-up of the whole week.

Even though there's pros and cons to places like The Villages, I think it's going to be a more and more common type of development in the future because older people in this country can't remain safe in the typical large urban city, they can't walk the streets at nite without fear and they can't go to sleep at nite without worrying about a break in. The safety factor for older folks is huge. I live in Vegas and have to have expensive safety doors, screens, numerous cameras, etc. to keep the thugs out. Can't go anywhere without being approached by "homeless" or other scum. And I realize the people in The Villages are rich (apparently 39% are millionaires or a net worth of over one million), but it is what it is. In this country, you buy safety. Even the gated retirement areas here in Vegas have thugs jumping over gates and getting around the security to break in, rob, and kill people. So in some places, even guard gated isn't a solution if the city if soft on crime like it is here. I would say people who can live in The Villages or places like it are very lucky and don't even realize how bad it can be. Or maybe they do and that's why they decided to live there. People can make fun of places like this but most are younger folks who haven't experienced what a lot of us have in big cities! It's sad that it has come to this in this country. I probably can't afford The Villages but in future I hope to relocate to an all 55 retirement area because it's a lot safer and lots more services nearby without having to worry about transportation or other issues.
@TamiDunn

I read your comment to Kevin. It is excellent and I totally agree with you. There are houses over a million dollars in The Villages, but you may be surprised to know there are also houses MUCH cheaper. I see one right now on realtor.com for $88,700. It's a mobile home and in the older area, but you get the same amenities that everyone else gets. You get to use the same country clubs, the same pools and recreation centers, you get the free nightly entertainment just like those millionaires. And you are right; the most appealing part to me is the safety.

@@TamiDunn thanks for responding during your vacation! I appreciate it! It's good to know there is a range of housing for various income levels.
