Yet, within that curse lies hidden and sealed the demise of all TS users, Mahoraga. Toji doesn't take substances because he cannot really get any effect from them. Alcohol doesn't affect him at all. (It was in one of the manga post-chapters of the Hidden Inventory Arc) And Megumi is a girl's name, so there was already some disregard to his son but meaning behind the name nonetheless. Other than that, great analysis

Toji is THE Badass in JJK in my opinion because in a world where cursed energy, bloodlines and techniques literally determine all of your worth in the sorcerers world, Toji is just HIM and that's all he needs to be. He's a beast, a nightmare made flesh and the ultimate predator for sorcerer life. I actually would love to see Toji pre marriage just to see how many sorcerers or curse users with their amazing birth lottery powers got violated by this guy without ever knowing that they met their end to a dude without any energy. When only Gojo "Glitch in the Matrix" Satorou could take you down you know you're a problem.

More like he got the typical isekai "Boy is ridiculed for being the weakest but actually has the most OP power (fully translated)". Except he went a different route. What's unique is his heavenly restriction gave him super physical boosts including enhanced senses. But he went the extra miles and also adapted from natural regular skills such as hunting and chasing prey. And used cursed beasts and artefacts into his arsenal. Having no curse energy which is balanced by super human power. But by having beasts and weapons, he nullifies the downsides. A perfect balance. The best part about him is the same as Gol D Roger. We didn't know anything about him at first, mostly. The legacy that everyone, even Gojo feared a man with no curse energy added to his legend. One guy in the series, can't remember his name. Was extremely conceited and arrogant. Except for Toji. The only one he ever acknowledged as superior.

I immediately think of Rock Lee when I think of "now power among power" characters. No jutsu, no talent, no powers. Not even physical gifts. He was even less than Toji along with Might Guy and Might Dai. All he could do was train physically. Same as Kenichi in History's Strongest Disciple. 0 talent, 200% effort. Lee's only true ability is even a weakness as it leaves him vulnerable and damaged afterwards.

Part of it was Toji also was emotionally broken to the point he didn’t have any pride in himself due to decades of abuse by the Zenin clan. The tragedy was that he only started taking pride and initiative was immediately after Geto. He had just fallen the two strongest Sorc’s, there was literally nothing Toji could not do. He probably would’ve walked directly to Megami and stiffed his clan on the heir, but Gojo rocked up and for once in his life Toji took pride in himself, and immediately failed. Maki meanwhile was able to distance herself from the Zenin thanks to Gojo and had time to flourish, despite their interference. Plus she had a sister that she very much loved. Those two things, particularly losing the latter to her father caused her to behave in a completely different way. Responding with focused resolution and retribution rather than becoming detached and apathetic.

Constantly fighting for themselves to sit at a table, no one wanted them in the first place. Proving others (especially himself) that im not a failure/burden that he can carry the weight. This is a truly fascinating video. You're very rapid-fire and move on from points quickly, but all of your thoughts are fully formed and it doesn't feel like you leave anything hanging. Your editing keeps admirable pace with these rapid-fire observations and somehow avoids feeling samey even though we're working with a limited amount of footage for this character. If I had one criticism it would be that I don't think you really expanded on the whole "Toji is the villain anime needs right now" premise, as you didn't really cover how other villains are lacking besides "a lot of side villains aren't very developed" and "Toji is a deconstruction of a popular trope". And while those are both strong points, the fact that most of this video is just character analysis within the context of JJK specifically makes it feel like you're wrestling unevenly with these two video topics. Of course, this criticism is so minor that if it weren't for the misleading title I wouldn't even have been thinking about it as I wrote this comment. Spoilers from the manga: I think this also works wonder for when Maki finally decides to kill her clan rather then lead it, in a way the viewer knows and she knows that the issue its this ingrained world view of sorcerers all around that spawned Someone like Toji and her, all people in the Ze´nin clan were guilty at some point, and rather then being the bigger person she choose to be the bigger sorcerer and end it

Now, I feel the fact that Gojo wore Toji's outfit in his final battle also overshadows the Toji's loss (like Toji lost to Gojo, Gojo lost to Sukuna). And no doubt about Toji being the villain needed in this era. His character is one of the impactful side characters in any story.

I really love the reference to Uzumaki when Geto used Uzumaki, and Mahito looked just like Mr Sato when he spiraled himself to death. There are so many references in this anime to the classics. Mutliple Hunter x Hunter refrences especially in the way Yuhi fights specifically. He fights almost exactly like Gon, uses a technique that isn't considered good, but does so in an unorthodox way making knowing about it meaningless and in fact possibly a bigger liability. The way he holds his hand like Gon in Jajaken : Rock, and his entire combat style is based off Gons moves from the anime, his tendency to use obstacles and environmental hazards as weapons and ways to shift around the battle field, overahelming thw opponent with rapid flurries etc. i really love how much Yuji is modeled after Gon.

@gallenberger1 Truthfully I could go on for hours if you wanted, about all the references in Jujutsu Kaisen to other manga. Like Mechamaru's Ultimate Mechamaru - Mode: Absolute's Pigeon Viola attack is a reference to industry mech animator legend Ichirō Itano, specifically to the animation attack style lovingly refered to as the Itano Circus. Kokichi Muta is actually somewhat modeled after a young version of Itano himself, and the fact he uses a Mech to fight is only more evident of the reference. Truthfully I only wish we could have seen more of Ultimate Mechamaru - Mode: Absolute specifically because I could watch him use Pigeon Viola all day tbh. The Itano Circus is one of my favorite attack type animations. But I could do very easily go on for quite a while yet of more references, especially some very obscure ones you almost need industry insider knowledge to catch like Sotokan and Junpeis relationship being based on an actual spurned Mangaka that went mad after his partner was involved in some gang violence by coincidence - thinking it was a colleague who had made an unfortunate comment the night before it happened - and he blamed his colleague thinking they ordered the attack on her, and he poisoned the entire staff nearly killing quite a few. I need to stop now or I'll keep going.

Great video, but if I had to provide constructive criticism it would be to elaborate on plot / power scaling elements a bit further in the future. As someone who is familiar with (and who has read) JJK, I understood everything you were talking about and really enjoyed the video. However, if someone was less familiar and wanted to just watch a relatively short video essay on a cool anime villain, they would lack some context for the plot or specifically power scaling. Example: when you referred to Gojo as the the most blessed character, born with both the Six Eyes and Limitless -- that sounds cool, but what the hell does that mean / entail to someone who has never seen JJK? From context clues they could theorize okay, they're a strong cool power in this universe, but what about Geto? So what he managed to nearly kill Geto? Is Geto crazy strong or something? How? Again, super nitpicky, but that would be my only criticism to potentially extend the appeal for an otherwise great video essay.

There’s also a interesting discussion to be had about Buddhism, after his wife dies Toji quite literally stops having any care for material possessions. He gambles cause it’s fun and he kills cause it lets him eat. He barely has pride and hides anything that could make him special for not only his job but his own technical enlightenment. That all changes at the Toji vs Gojo battle, Gojo cheats death and then proceeds to become enlightened himself. This spurs an actual response from Toji and in a sense unelightens him. He starts caring about Gojo and his own pride which directly causes his death. Toji dies with no regrets but trusts the only other enlightened individual with his son’s fate. (Bro got mad lucky getting Gojo to help megumi)

Its probably reading between the lines but 2 of the only heavenly restricted characters were both from the zenin clan, they were probably a necessity in the ritual to tame maho, for it is near impossible for a ten shadows user to do that alone, theres also that thing which megumi did before summoning maho, to include someone else in the ritual. That could be a heavenly restriction user ( it could be someone else as well with one shot capabilities like gojo but since the clans didn't get along all that well if they had to do it with just Zenin members then thatd be the way to do it ig

Hey bro nice video I really enjoyed it. Some honest constructuve criticism: be careful with inflections on the end of your sentences! I hear you often ending your sentences with an upwards inflection. Example: "meaning that his lack of cursed energy has actually made body physically superior than other's?" It makes you seem unsure of your statements, like you are second guessing yourself. So if you want to improve your videos even more than they already have, be sure to make it a habit to end your sentences with downwards inflections. This will make your communication seem more assertive and confident. Nice video bro 👍
